I am pulling for Samsonov. Seems like a decent guy. But he is so technically off right now. There is no way a week of mindset will change that. Should have played 10 games with the Marlies and then make a decision. Even more pressure on him now. But unlike most and I am not sure why, I think he is going to rebound to the point he is at least playable.

I knew this was going to happen as I mentioned a couple times.
They are protecting Hildeby (& i don't blame them) and for now more then anything he needs game action. As for the Sammy part id wait and see before overreacting. While its difficult to believe (Jones got to be getting tired) maybe like last time he plays both ends of back2back. Remember Wedgewood just played 11 in a row.

Recalled for what ? Guys been dog shit all year long, Jones better be starting every game that isn't a back to back.

Should've left his ass in the minors. Guys been so bad with a losers attitude, get that shit away from the team. He may end up being the reason why we don't have home ice in the playoffs.

Sadly, Pro sports today.

It was honestly exhausting to hear the team talk about his return. I was enjoying not hearing about support and help and mental fitness like today. It all just seems a distraction and one that is destined to fail badly at this point.

Leafs are at 90% likelihood for the playoffs. They can afford to try rehabbing Samsanov into a partially salvageable asset, especially with Woll still out.

Give him a short leash and at least try.

I agree.

I don't think the Leafs are going to share Samsonov's clinical notes outside of his circle of care.

Here I'm assuming that a significant portion of his off-ice work should have included psychological counseling, and we really can't make assumptions about how that's been going or about his plan of care.
We don't need to know clinical findings, what we need to know is why the Leafs are wasting games with this guy in the net. Why we will have to decide if Woll or Martin J lose their spot. Why doesn't Sam need to earn his spot. Why does he not have to play games in the minors. This is a win at all cost league and has no participation ribbons.
Many goalies in history had different struggles, but non were allowed to sink their teams like this guy.

I get what you’re saying but our goal should be the division lead. It’s within our reach even despite all the points samsonov has given away this year

Things have been going too well, so they want to reintroduce some chaos into the dynamic.
this is a very weird move that can seriously mess up the chemistry of the team. I think it has been proven that Samsonov’s attitude is extremely toxic and sends a ripple wave through the team. This might end up being a very costly move.

The timing is also really weird because the vibes seem to good, and they've got a lot of momentum going into a very tough stretch. If Samsonov kills the room, stinks in the net, his Leaf career will be over, over.

Well, I'm a bit surprised. They were doing everything right. Feels sudden but I'm sure there is a reason they feel to bring him back. I think the D is a bit better and healthier now so that might help. Personally would have given Hildey the game and then look to recall.

I'm wondering if they thought Hildeby was too raw to play, and are worried about Jones holding up. So they need to rehabilitate Samsonov. Also, Woll could come back in a month but he's also not a durable goalie, so (knock on wood) they need more goalies.

If I’m remembering correctly I think the guys played hard that game. I had the feeling they knew if Sammy lost he was done, a few here, myself included also had the same feeling. Just how badly done must have caught everyone by surprise. I think they’d be more than good with Sammy getting a game, but then again they could have gotten attached to. Mr. Jones and take an, it’s just business atttude.

So Sammy is struggled, gets waived for 2 weeks played 0 AHL games, and then recalled where he'll likely start on Sunday and we expect him to have figured it out?

This seems dumb.

I guess they don't want Hildeby sitting this long? And putting him into his first NHL game after not starting for a long time might be too risky?

Bizarre.

Maybe Sammy gets a shot Sunday? Or maybe Woll is getting closer than we think?

Don't see this project tossing more than two points out the window at the worst. He's been a serviceable goalie for most of his career and the upside on that is either we have an extra option in net or he becomes a moveable asset and we have an extra 2.5M to work the deadline in prep for the playoffs.

It's a risk reward gamble that's not too bad and the folks in charge have inside intel. We did the mid season mental health reset with Campbell two years back and that same outcome would put us in a much better position than having dead cap for the season.
