I agree. At best he's probably a 55-60 point player right now. He might be brought in to replace Zucc who'll be traded at the deadline.

Can't field a whole team full of AHL'ers and 18 year olds. No one is going to come to games to watch that crap
Im shocked if Zuc is here past July 1st

Are you going to change your name to BenedictKovie?

That user name is already taken. Copycats.

On a serious note, I wouldn't be shocked if this is one of those all too common "false reports out of Russia" stories.

Signing Kovalchuk makes absolutely no sense in the Rangers rebuild, especially after getting some nice young pieces and having a slew of RFA salary increases over the next year or so. Only guy it makes sense to is Kovalchuk, who will go wherever the $$$ are, rather than the opportunity to win.

It makes a ton of sense for reasons that have been laid out in here dozens of times. Not saying it's a sure thing, but it happening would certainly make sense for NYR. If you can't or don't want to go back and see why, let me know and I'll explain.

Rangers will more than likely be trading Zuc at the draft which gives us 4.6 million in savings. That combined with the fact they already have 24 million in cap space and may be trading one of the RFA's should mean we have enough space for Kovy. Also helps the rebuild as it gives the younger guys to follow and play with.

I agree only thing that could hold him back from being dealt there is if the right deal isn't found. Might be like the TJ Oshie trade a few years back

Still think the time to trade Zucc has passed.

If we couldve gotten a 1st (plus more?) At the deadline I think we would have.

If we couldnt, then why would we be able to now? One less playoff run with him for the acquiring club.

I'm not moving him without a first or a top prospect in the deal. Keep your 2nd round pick.

But why wouldn't they have done that already?

Is a team going to up their offer from what they were giving at the deadline?

Who knows what teams were offering at the deadline?

Plus the pool of teams who would be interest would be larger in June, specifically if a few teams get knocked out early and decide they need more offensive punch.

I think they screwed up by not moving him already, but that doesn't mean that they should continue to screw up by hanging onto him. The alternatives are to extend him or let him walk for nothing, I'm not a fan of either of those options.

Do we have the cap space to keep Zucc and Kovy? If we could potentially sign Karlsson or Tavares, someone would definitely need to go, and Zucc would be the obvious candidate.

In your scenario above yeah--there's too many big contracts. I really don't think Tavares will come here though. I don't think he crosses from one metro area rival to the other. Karlsson I think there's more chance. Do the Rangers work out a deal for him or wait a year is a question. I think the Rangers would be a team he'd be very interested in.

It was mentioned that the McDonagh/Miller deal took up A LOT of time for Gorton around the deadline. And that the offers for Zuccarello didn't really get that serious until the final hour. So there was interest, but too late for Gorton to do much with it.

I'd wait a year on Karlsson. This team isn't ready to contend for the Cup, even if we traded for him.

And trading for him would be costly. I gotta think it would be Chytil+at least one of the firsts this year. We improve the team, but not enough to offset the minuses going the other way, so I'd wait a year, if we were going to sign Karlsson.

Knowing he isn't coming over to play for LV it seems, would the Rangers trade something small for his rights and see if he would come over with Kovalchuk?
Depends what LV would want. If they try to treat him like he's a regular player under contract I'd probably balk. If they treated him like a dude that doesn't want to play for them, and they just wanted to unload him for something, I'd be all over it. Problem with the latter scenario is that a lot of other teams would be all over it as well.

Seems like it would be worth kicking the tires on, either way.

Ok...

If we could sign or keep 2 out these players, what are your choices?

Kovalchuk
Zuçc
Nash
Grabner
Tavares
