Money? Wasn't it the big money year coming up? Why the hell would he pass that up? He's not going to make more money in Russia.

I have to think his back is ****ed up and he doesn't think he can compete at the top level, because otherwise this just doesn't make any sense.

Kovy has always been a guy with a great sense of NHL history. And he always talked about how he wanted to make his place in it. But now he just leaves. I don't get it.

Saugus, I think you missed the tweet which said he could be making 20 million per season WITHOUT TAXES, ESCROWS, and all that other stuff in the NHL.

So yes...It WAS about Money.

what the **** do we do now

it's impossible to replace a player like that, he's a gamebreaker, one of the few players that can carry a team

I always thought he was kind of strange and emotional. I kinda was worried he would feel a little lonely with Moose not around, and I also was afraid he might not like losing his friend Volchenkov to a buyout.

At least now I won't have to worry about that.

well this ****ing sucks. going to have to hope that the additions click and this team shows Lou enough over the first two months that it seems worthwhile to give up assets to add someone like Vanek in-season. trading for a 1st line winger at this moment is probably cost prohibitive. ILWT.

The lockout gets us again.

05 cost us the last year of Neidermayer and the time off helped Stevens decide he could be happy retired.

Now playing in Russia half a season just cemented Kovy's strong desire to play there. being the last guy to come back after the lockout makes a lot more sense now.

This can't be justified. It's absolutely unforgivable.

We got Yashin'd, straight up. (Without the $'s, but still he cost us a lot in the end.)

You don't want to be a Devil? Great, see ya later. Gotta move on and trust Lou now.

what a ****ing *******. could he have not done this before free agency began......he can rot for eternity for all i care.

left the team high and dry.......**** off and go home to your russia, piece of ****

There wasn't really much in free agency to replace him anyway. We would have signed a regrettable contract, Mogilny and Malakhov style. But the timing is still awful.

This is what amazes me.

We literally had Kovy by the balls and just let him go scot-free.

I don't know what Lou is thinking. He seems to be too determined to be the "good guy" recently and it keeps screwing us. Allowing Sutter to leave, letting the Wild get away with tampering with Parise, etc. The old Lou would never have let him go like this.

At least Tedenby is not going to be sandbagged on the bottom lines. Ted here's your chance. This upcoming season will amount to a tryout for the entire org.

ok thanks.

Btw, a request to any angry Devils fans intending on burning Kovy jerseys or shirts...Just give it away to Goodwill or Red Cross. Someone in more of an unfortunate situation can put them to better use

Jersey has a crappy 9.75% state income tax on all incomes over 500k to boot.

He could make double tax free so money is a factor.

He is also going to be a national hero now.
