People here were sure before the beginning of the season that he was better than Shestyorkin. Shestyorkin hasn't let up more than 3 goals since September. Koskinen has let up more than 3 goals 3 times in January.

People here were sure before the season started that Koskinen is more experienced goalie with a Gagarin Cup under his belt. So far Shesterkin outplayed him without a doubt, but their team prefer to go with experience which is reasonable at this point. You need to keep in mind that Shesty made a case for himself that puts Kostco on a very short leash if he starts to fail in playoffs.

Playing experience over the best player is a fireable offence.

It's like continuing to play Weeks over Hank due to experience.

You never sit the best player due to experience. Not in a league you are trying to win. That's just stupid. Very stupid.

Why do poster need to exaggerate / use hyperboles instead of trying to understand what's behind an option that does not agree with theirs? At this point you don't know who is the best given how different is the size of their pro careers. Do you KNOW how Shesty will perform in a pressure packed game 7 of KHL western finals against CSKA if it happens? We don't and a team that only will call their season successful if they win a Cup, cannot gamble their success on expectations that Shesty will hold up. I wouldn't (other than as a Rangers fan). I bet if the things were different and Koskinen was somehow a Rangers prospect you'd be making this exact argument for proven experience vs recent success.

P.S. Weeks is nothing like Koskinen, and neither is Shesty as compared to Lundqvist.

That division lead... WOW!

Goal one he should've done better, goal two he could've done better, not sure the third he had much blame for. Still not good to give up 3 goals on 23 shots.

Kosk played again yesterday, picked up the lost of course in the SO. 5-4 Loss.

Kosk: 12-9 (6 losses in regulation)
Shest: 27-9 (3 losses in regulation)

How did this thread get to the second page of the forum list?

GOAT in net for Russia, Oaf in net for Finland.

And the SKA coach is the Russian coach, so he can't use the excuse of not watching.

What reflexes!

Igor just made a highlight reel glove save! The Saint Petersburg crowd is applauding! Its basically a home game for him, by the way, on SKA ice.

What tournament is he is now?

Euro Hockey Tour.

Its the same thing as it was the past few times. A few times a year, Russia, Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic play matches against each other.

I doubt he'll play another game the rest of these matches. They have another two, but those two games will probably go to Sorokin and Samsonov. Its good that he got the first match. I think he might be ahead of Sorokin for the World Championship pecking order, and maybe the Olympics. Samsonov is probably third in that pecking order, this is his first National Team call up. If you consider it, Russia has three NHL goalies who are probably ahead of him for the Russian National Team, Bobrovskiy, Varlamov and Vasilevskiy, but so far, Varlamov is out for the season, and if Columbus makes the second round, Bobrovskiy won't be available for the World Championships. If Tampa and Columbus both make the second round, Shestyorkin could even be the starter for the World Championships.

SKA's next game is next Tuesday. They play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday before the playoffs start.
