1.55 and .941 vs 1.99 and .920. Shesterkin should play. Significantly better stats on the same team. But Costco is a vet, so he gets to play.

Short breakaway against Costco and he couldn't move properly, so it's a goal. Rooting for him to give up a ton hopefully.

BTW, KHL hockey is really good quality. I would never watch Springfield play Albany in the AHL, but KHL hockey is entertaining even if nobody is our prospect.

Shestyorkin played a great amount of games in total (not just KHL). I understand the decision to rest him a bit more.

He hasn't played for SKA in almost 2 weeks..playing him in maybe 1 of 3 games I would understand...but leaving a goalie cold that long makes no sense unless he was injured (which he isnt), or they are trying to get Kosk back in his groove for the playoffs..

If he isn't starting for SKA in the playoffs, I think he'd be better off with the Rangers next season. We lose Raanta in the expansion draft, and Shestyorkin can be Hank's back up. SKA can have the Finnish Bishop as their starter. Works out well for everyone, if SKA thinks Koskinen is better.

We can't just bring him over, he has a contract you know and KHL does not have an agreement with NHL and i very much doubt SKA is OK with NHL out clauses in their contracts.

Yeah, I don't doubt that they'd want a very good and cheap back up, but I think the Rangers and Shestyorkin might have some type of say if SKA is making someone else their starter. A player of Shestyorkin's ability should have some leverage, if he's not starting.

I don't think NYR or Shestyorkin has any leverage at all actually, he's there for the duration of his contract is my guess, no matter if he's the starter or not.

We can't even throw them a bundle of money under the table since they are the richest KHL team

I would imagine that Shestyorkin can buy out the remaining years on his contract, but I highly doubt he does that. Maybe when he only has 1 year left, but not this year.

There's no way the Rangers would try to pay for it under the table. It's not worth the risk.

I forget which thread it was, but I voiced my concern about some being too casual about Raanta being plucked by Vegas. While I understand the theory of Benoit Allaire being cream of the crop when it comes to goaltender developers, and being able to improve a goalie's fundamental technique, I still did not like the idea of Raanta just being yanked away. I was kind of confused about where things stood with goaltender prospects. I've been reading here about Shestyorkin (even about the spelling of his name, the posts of which I found quite interesting too). I knew about him from the WJC where he was pulled from a game quite early, prematurely I thought. That's a long time ago, though.
Great job by the folks here in their reporting on Shestyorkin. I should try to watch him play sometime.

I am in agreement that Raanta could indeed be picked by Vegas, he's young-ish, reasonably priced and somewhat proven. The only benefit being we don't lose other guys.

Regarding the spelling of Shestyorkin's name in English characters, i think this is a hysterical waste of time.

There is no such thing as a specific 'proper' spelling of a name that is in Cyrillic characters.
If/when Shesty comes west, he will decide with the team how to spell his name on his jersey.
Recall we drafted #19 as Fasth, but now his jersey spells it Fast

And a couple young short dynamic scorers turned pro in the NYR/HWP system with long, hyphenated names;
Both shortened the name for their jersey, one guy removing the first half of the hyphenated name, while the other dropped the 2d part

Mats Zuccarello-Aasen is just Mats Zuccarello
while
Jonathan Audy-Marchessault is now just Jonathan Marchessault

It's still something I think about often. Talbot last season, Raanta this season. Am I just seeing things through my Rangers-glasses when I look around the league and don't notice other team's backup goalies doing what they did/do? Could very well be a factor. I probably should not make assumptions without stats to back up my idea that Raanta is pretty special as backups go.

Funny what you point out about names. I remember Jesper's modification well, thought at first it was a prank. I liked 'Fasth' but Fast is pretty cool too. The real zinger is that I already forgot about Mats' long lost '-Aasen'.

i was under the impression that the player himself can buy out his contract regardless of term?

Not sure if he'd do that. In his shoes I'd rather get paid to dominate on the best team in the league.

Obviously I'd be thrilled if he came over early, but it seems more likely that 18-19 would be the season.

he hasnt played in over a month, unless he gets guaranteed 90% of the starts i think he might consider it

SKA lost 4-2. Kosk gave up 3 goals on 24 shots. Good.

People here were sure before the beginning of the season that he was better than Shestyorkin. Shestyorkin hasn't let up more than 3 goals since September. Koskinen has let up more than 3 goals 3 times in January.
