If you were trading one player on this team, who would it be?

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. JT, then MM. I think both need to go to fix this team. JT is a horrible captain. He's got no fire and no emotion. He has the personality of a door knob. But hey, he's a gud pro...

JT. But it will never happen.
This would be my pick as well. Would help our pocket books out tremendously. Kadri will be a free agent this coming off-season, wouldn't mind him back at the right price, but we have no money. This franchise was set up well with a top two lines of Matthews-Marner & Kadri-Nylander. Kadri won't get more than 3.5 likely this off-season due to his antics and are of 31. Tavares contract made the rest of our kids shoot for high price tags too. It really disrupted our balance. However, like you said, JT isn't going anywhere in all likelihood.

So, what I'd do this season for a trade is Kerfoot & Holl bundled off for some upgraded D help.

You can trade players like Kerfoot (they should have let Seattle take this vanilla ass jabroni instead of McCann) and Ritchie, but as long as the team has ~$40 mil tied up in four forwards, the forward depth will always be a problem unless a bunch of Spezzas can be signed constantly (very unlikely).

Ideally, you trade either Tavares or Marner, but right now trading either for a solid return without cap retention seems like a pipe dream.

Marner. You can move out smaller pieces but it won’t register. The dressing room needs a major skakeup, Marner alone is not guilty of the culture currently there but he is a big part of it. Remove Marner and if Matthews act like a whiny child after the trade, ship him out at the draft. I know it will suck but it’s a retool instead of a rebuild. It’s better that way than continuing on with Marner and Matthews if you don’t believe they are desperate to win and have other priorities.

Anyone that can net a return that will improve the team and move it closer toward winning the Stanley Cup.

if you trade Tavares you will never get a high profile UFA ever again

bye Marner.

There's literally no evidence to support this. I've seen this before and it's ridiculous. Teams can't trade players, what? If they don't want to get traded they should play better.

A major component of a number of trades lies in what's coming back to the team in return. Without that information available, I'd want to move the most expendable asset. That would IMO currently either be Holl (too expensive if he's going to lose his spot in the top six) or Ritchie (not great value for a fourth liner).

We need a derozan for kawhi kinda trade. Marner+blank for blank. Shift the culture of the team and get something back. Give some other player a change of scenery too

In the order of preference

  • Holl
  • Kerfoot
  • Ritchie
  • Tavares
  • Marner
  • Kase
  • Dermott

Everybody else I am happy to keep. That said, if Gretzky was traded anybody can be traded. If it makes the Leafs a better team then anyone from the squad is available as far as I am concerned

The logical choices are Tavares and Marner.

The problem, other than JTs NMC, is that they are both badly overpaid, so to trade either we would have to do retention, of a good draft pick, or more likely both.

$4M retention plus a 2nd might get someone to bite on Tavares, but we probably wouldn't get more than a decent prospect back.

Maybe a bit better deal for Marner, as some GMs may think he still has potential.

Pretty much everyone else are deck chairs on the Mariposa Belle.

You could just ignore it then? So useless you felt the need to stop by...
Yup. Need to comment on the the non fans who dont watch games and who prefer the drama of crapping on players without a qualifier of what they expect in return for a player.
