If the Leafs were to trade anyone on the roster right now, who is on the block?

As always, that would be dependent on the return. I do prefer the trading of a 1st during the season more than I do during the offseason. I'd also typically expect any trade of that pick to be for a player with some term left on his contract. Trades could be different this season because of the expansion draft and Canada/U.S quarantine situation though. We have seen a blockbuster already, albeit one entirely involving players looking for a trade/change of scenery. A more recent trade was entirely made up of pending UFAs.
When Dubas traded their 1st round pick in 2019 for Muzzin he had 2 years left on his contract. So based on that I think he want someone with term instead of a rental player.

Real big difference there is that we still had a big hole on defense and not many defensemen worth allocating future cap dollars too. Now we're right up against the cap with Hyman looking for a raise, so we don't have the cap space to bring that player back next year. Only real spot in the roster that it makes sense to upgrade with term at is 3c.

What if someone with term on their contract was also included like Kerfoot as an example?

Of course. I'm just thinking that expansion might be this season's new wrinkle. A rental could be preferable with a potential handshake agreement to re-sign after that draft ends. I'm hopeful for that to be the situation with Hyman. I can also see where that might be wishful thinking.

I think it would be a mistake trading dermott, if we have an injury on defense its nice to have legit nhl defenseman as depth.

Agree 100%, this has been my mantra lately. Everyone keeps talking about how much depth we have but the reality is, we probably have just enough and not a penny more. If we were to trade Dermott, then we'd be just one injury away from being forced to start a rookie or Marincin, that's not exactly a comfortable situation for a team that's hoping to go deep in the playoffs.

The only answer Nylander. He’d probably love an opportunity to play on a rebuilding team like Detroit Ottawa or maybe San Jose.

I would trade Hyman if we got a good return for him. I think he'll be too expensive to resign. And with Thornton, Simmonds, and Robertson... I think we can spare Hyman when they're all back in the lineup.

I do like Hyman now... but I think we could live without him if we got a good return. I certainly don't want to pay him $4+ million to resign him. Someone might even pay him more than $5 million. So I would trade him now while he has value and get a nice return, rather than lose him for nothing next year.
If Dubas and Hymans agent have already negotiated and realized they arent close, and if a team is willing to offer up a 1st plus a replacement winger, only then id look at it.
Id hope they have already begun negotiations, and if you cant get at least a first then keep him for the playoff run no question

If the Leafs really want to improve the team they have to trade a player with more value that the scrubs everyone’s mentioning, those player won’t get you better players more like a round of musical chairs. They’d have to offer up someone of value to get value back and we all know Leaf Nation doesn’t like the idea trading a fan favourite to improve the team so it’s a moot point imo.

Engvall and it’s not even close. 175k is still on the cap when he’s in the minors.

I'm not sure anyone is on the block. Is there anyone that they are looking to move... probably not. Are there people they "might" move, depending on the return... probably. So, this really depends on what the return is. People talk about moving Kerfoot quite a bit, and I'm not all that sure why at this point, especially when they are suggesting people who aren't really very successful at C... Have you got a legit, C upgrade in mind here?

You do realize that Hyman doesn't give a rats backside about money ? His daddy is loaded and owns half the minor league teams it the GTA as a hobby .He himself has already had a few best selling childrens books . Hyman wants to be a Leaf , trade him and he just might refuse to report and retire , bottom line he's going to take whatever and like it because he bleeds blue and white .

I love my Leafs and don't want any of them to go. Without knowing what the return is, I couldn't do it.

For the kind of return Kerfoot would get, it would really make the Kadri trade even worse.

Can we just have Kadri back please.? I can't wait for his contract to end.

I dont want to trade him either, I was just sayinf the only way id consider is if they knew he wasnt coming back and they got an offer they couldnt refuse

Offering up guys who have cleared waivers moving back and forth between the Taxi squad is laughable , if nobody wants them for free they sure aren't offering anything in a trade . The best trade chips we have are Reilly and Nylander , given the reversal in salaries we have seen around the league they just might fetch a couple of premium players at a small savings of cap but I wouldn't hold my breath on either being dealt .

I don't think he reports . he's living his dream and if the dream ends then so be it he has other things in his life , he also owns an Esports team .

PS if it wasn't for the cap rules and the union he'd probably play for free hotdogs

I agree. If they move Dermott they'll be looking for a depth defenseman at the deadline. He's well rounded, has experience and can move up and down the lineup. Keep him for the run.

Agree here as well. They don't have a replacement. Joe could do it. But, Kerfoot is a long term solution at 3C. Find someone better and by all means throw him to the highest bidder.

To those saying Vesey has no value. He's cheap and come the deadline someone will pay a mid round pick for him if the Leafs need cap room for a bigger fish.

The stupidest statement I’ve heard a GM say, ever........
I think Dubas means he won't call up other GM's trying to trade Nylander. However if another GM called him and asked about Nylander I'm sure Dubas would listen to what the offer might be.

Remember all the times Brian Burke said he wasn't going to trade Luke Schenn and saw him as a future Leafs captain. His previous comments did not matter because he traded him to Philadelphia for James van Riemsdyk.
