I know a number of articles and reports were written years ago about how the NHL really wanted Roenick to be the man and face of the league...he was flamboyant, he hit everything that moved, he was an attractive man (all my lady friends and cousins wanted him..haha), and he was American...the NHL would love to have an American be the #1 guy to promote as it has never been before. Obviously with Crosby around that will never be the case for Kane, but he could be the closest to that role as Roenick got derailed by injuries then traded to the hotbed of media attention in Phoenix...so Kaner may be our only hope Obi-Wan!

...well at least until that other guy McMichael....err Jim Reichel.... don't know what that kids name is from Boston, but he is coming :yo:

"Kaneau's defensive issues are overblown...he's decent defensively. As for his scoring ability, he's one of the best in the NHL. He's definitely a top-10 player, not sure about top-5 or even top-3.

"Kanesov is ridiculously overrated. He is an absolute train wreck in his own zone and doesn't seem to care about hockey unless he's scoring goals. Overrated POS. Hawks should trade him before he bolts to the KHL."

"Kaneberg is pretty good, but clearly not as good as his teammate, Toews."

I'm American and I don't like Kane as a person or have that high of an opinion of him as a player. Probably the only reason why I don't dislike him more is that he is American and I have to cheer for him every 4 years at the very least. So, I don't really understand the point being made by the OP.

If Patrick Kane was Canadian, Leaf fans would stop trying to compare Kessel to him. So I guess that's one form of getting more respect.

Because the US hockey media is not looking to find a homegrown star to trumpet?

As for the best player or top-3, a year ago he was in the worst slump of his career. The end of the 2013-14 season was horrible by his standards. He needs a few seasons of sustained play like this to be considered on level with the annual Hart Trophy favorites.

There's a US Hockey Media? You mean local beat reporters?

Kane doesn't get enough respect? Huh. Always thought he was generally considered one of the league's best players. A Calder, a Conn Smythe and 2 Cup rings at 26 isn't enough for some people I guess.

When I think of the kind of player who doesn't get a lot of respect, my first pick is the big name all offense guy on the dominant team of the generation.

Meh. He's on a stacked team with alot of depth. Stick better players in his position and they'd be much better than him. He's talented, he has great hands, but many players do as well. Beneficially of being on a good team and nothing more.

Toews is the guy who makes it all happen.

Toews is not a big time playoff performer, while Kane is one of the all-time greats...

Talking specifically about nationality, he's already been in best ever out of USA discussions, so yeah that's uber respect.

I think he will be in discussions in like 4-5 years but there's been some realy special players over the years from the US...

Hull, Modano, Housley, Roenick, Tkachuk, Mullen, Weight, Leetch, Lafontaine, Chelios etc...

Yet Kane puts up more points? Toews is the better all around player, but Kane is the better offensive player and is one of the best offensive players in the league. I think the guy is a POS for assaulting a cab driver, but he is one of the top players in the league.

Also, that stacked team comment is so ****ing stupid. He is one of the reasons the team is stacked. He also was considered the biggest reason they won the cup in 2013 or else he wouldnt have won the Conn Smyth.

Your argument is, he benefits from being on a good team, yet he is one of the reasons the team is so good. Please, you dont know what your e talking about.

Toews is .86 PPG in the playoffs, Kane is .97, both in 94 PO games played. So Kane is a one tenth of a point per game better than Toews in the playoffs. That's hardly a seismic gap in production, especially when you consider it's usually Toews tasked with going up against the other teams' top lines and Dmen.

They are both big-time playoff performers.

Quite possibly the greatest American player ever.

Slow down.

He's not even the best American player in the history of the Blackhawks yet.

He could be by the time his career is over, for sure though.
