Unlike, say, American announcers and media that broadcast to an American audience and who are never, ever biased toward American players. Ever.

The guy you're replying to has extreme xenophobia towards Russians.

It's a pretty funny post by him.

Pretty much. There is a Canadian bias. If Ovechkin got Canadian citizenship he would be the consensus #1 shortly after.

Ovechkin has argueably been #1 or 1A for at least 3 seasons of his career, what with all the Harts and Pearsons.

>no respect
>Is frequently in the discussion for best player in US Hockey history, despite not having the full resume like Leetch and Modano (pretty impressive considering his career is nowhere close to being over.)

If only he were Canadian, then he would get the respsect he dserves! :sarcasm:

Did anyone say that wasn't the case? All I'm pointing out is the fact that the majority of influential folks in hockey media tend to be Canadian, and many of them do have a bias against Americans.

Listening to Kypreos talk about Gaudreau is painful . . .

If he was Russian he'd get less respect, people would be calling him a one dimensional forward with good hands, when that obviously isn't the case.

As has been mentioned, he gets a ton of respect for his on-ice play, and rightfully so, he's top tier regardless of his nationality. As has also been mentioned, he takes a ton of **** for his off-ice behaviour, and maybe even loses respect over it, and rightfully so, because he sounds like a bratty little punk.

If Patrick Kane's last name was Kaneau, Kanesov or Kaneberg and he wasn't American, he'd probably be considered a top 3 NHL player, and maybe even the best right now.

Very under appreciated.

Are you out of your mind? He's maybe a top 20 player in the league, and already one of the most overrated players I can possibly think of.

That other guy on the hawks, Jonathan Toews, he is an elite top-10 player in the world. Not kane. He's good, and he happens to be putting up the best #s of his career right now. But don't let that anomaly distort your perception of what makes a good hockey player.

If Kane wasn't jocked by Roenick 24x7, he'd get more respect.

I agree. Maybe not Pietro and Rinne but he's behind the rest of them.

I know that he gets a bunch of respect in the US. No one talks about him that much in Canada though.

Who cares. Just keep winning Cups and everyone else can complain about how he is not upper echelon while they look from the outside in. Hawks fans....we don't care really.

Because the US hockey media is not looking to find a homegrown star to trumpet?

As for the best player or top-3, a year ago he was in the worst slump of his career. The end of the 2013-14 season was horrible by his standards. He needs a few seasons of sustained play like this to be considered on level with the annual Hart Trophy favorites.

I don't think people disrespect him out of his nationality, I think it has much more to do with perceived personality.

I think your perceived personality of me in my early 20s would be the same.
