If you look at DOC and his usage as a case study it’s seriously puzzling, it’s like a coach that has no idea what the player is so he’s trying random usage until the player just sort of treads water in whatever ridiculous role he has them in. Yet the only options he has him in is 3rd line or 4th line.

If I'm remembering correctly, Sully told DOC to focus on a certain aspect of his game last year. And apparently this year he has told him something conflicting?

I don't get it.

It was obviously Malkin's fault that Rakell basically body checked DeSmith for the game winner, POJ made a stupid turnover and Ruhwedel went for a change before making sure that the puck would go deep. Oh, and a shot from the blue line ending in the back of the net is clearly Malkin's fault entirely because the rest of the team is super diligent at covering said points and the Pens are not at all terrible at shot suppression in general.

Yes, Malkin needs to be better defensively, obviously, but when your team has like 4 forwards putting any effort on defense at all (and some of them can't score for shit, ironically enough) pointing fingers at the guy with 2G and 1A as the main culprit for the loss is... a choice.

He's just looping around out there. That's all you need to know. That glib statement basically covers it all.

Also it seems extremely fair judging performances individually on this team right now. What ever do you mean? Well oiled machine, my friend.

Just finished this one....

AGAIN!!! several goals again, so sad it's funny. I hate this team. I hate the face behind the penguins... I hate everything about them.
Never figured on this being how Sid's and genos last years would go....

Also @DesertedPenguin - Kuhn, Wilson, Rust all were Sully’s guys.

Nylander, Puustinen, and Hallander are on career paces in the AHL that rivals or is better than some of those names and their stats during that season before their call up.

Yet Gruden leads the way tied with Poulin for 3 games on the 3rd/4th line, Puustinen hasn’t gotten a chance since Kapanen went down, instead Sullivan just gave more time to a player that hasn’t earned it in Heinen.

Puustinen has 34pts in 41 - 60pt pace there vs his 42 last year in 73 games. In 41 games he’s already 8pts from his season total. Yet nah, f*** that, more Heinen.

Nylander is also on a 60pt pace.

But nah, more Heinen!!

Caggiula is absolutely useless. But he’s a veteran so he got some games. But nah, not Nylander or Puustinen.

Hallander was on a 70pt pace but he only deserved 2 games max.

Say what you want, I don’t f***ing get how anyone defends Sully and says we have nothing down there when you haven’t even seen them get a fair shot and they’re producing down there to earn a shot the coach would rather give a veteran journeyman that goes long stretches of putrid play with no upside.

Look at the “fair shot” Drew gets. We had Zucker hurt and he couldn’t be bothered to put DOC there at all even just to try it for a game. It’s either he’s with Carter or Blueger or recently, Poehling.
This is why you don’t give any coach job security. Sulky should have canned 2 years ago at the latest. And this ownership group extends him??

For all we know FSG have bad intentions for this franchise.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned about his suit that looks like he just freshly got it from a thrift store, being that he was clearly at the home rink, or that it seems like he throws it into a ball in his luggage instead of using the right garment suit luggage. I mean, he's not making top money in the league, but he still makes more than the average suit goer out there. The only thing straight line and smooth is his bald head. Got to do a better job. The little things.

I'm sorry if this seems like nitpicking. Maybe they should have cropped it higher for him at the shoulders.:dunno:

Yep, tight ship and great goaltending, lots of excellent finishers too on this team…if only it wasn’t for Malkin and his 2 G and 1 A!

He's the player he is though...
The decision to roster or ice him wherein lies the problem.

so i get it, CDS was pretty decent against the caps, but really you can't expect two decent starts in a row from him. This game wasn't solely his fault but this is getting ridiculous where we put up over 40 shots and score 5+ goals, again, and lose, again. Sure getting run into by his own team mate and the puck subsequently going in the net it's hard to find fault with your goalie on that. But it's the other weak goals that go in during the game that count as well. Really tired of seeing an unscreened, un tipped shot from the point just being whiffed on. Happens far to often with CDS, that and he almost always gets to antsy in net and is waaaay out of position at times.

just a measure of how bad we are that we can't beat an ahl goalie against a team that played the night before, that is trying to tank for bedard. who in the pens org thinks we actually will make the playoffs the way we are going? or if we do miracle our way in actually win a series...

5-10 years from now you'll look at WBS lineup and then give Hextall a thank you.
No, he’s gone after the season and there will be nothing to remember him by in 5 years. His contributions thus far are non existent. He will one day be a distant memory like Mike Johnston.

First SJ goal was just pathetic. POJ absolutely shit himself on the 5th Sharks goal. Malkin standing on head for nothing.

Lol…nothing about Sullivan
Lack of depth is the reason the Pens can't be bothered play defense more often? Top notch logic.

The team has been very mentally fragile for years now and has played structured hockey mostly when riddled with injuries and having no choice if it wants points but somehow this is not the coach's fault but the GM's. Or maybe it's all Phil Kessel's fault, he is still influencing the team with his bad vibes. That must be it!

Just what does Sullisma have to do for the media to realize that the Emperor has no clothes?

If Yohe actually used Sid's quote in that context, I would agree with you. But apparently you didn't read it, because that isn't what happened. The very next line : "Sullivan was asked whether this is merely a problem with the Penguins or whether the coaching staff needs to take some blame, too. He didn’t hesitate to accept some accountability. “It starts with me,” Sullivan said. “I have to do a better job of coaching these guys.” A paragraph later, he writes "This kind of stuff just can’t keep happening, and yet it does. It’s unprofessional. It’s an indication of low hockey IQ. And, frankly, it doesn’t make the coaching staff look all that great, either. It’s well beyond the point of being a broken record."
My statement should have read "*IF* Yohe is including Sid's comment as some sort of proof it's not the system that's stupid".

In any case, you're right I didn't read the article. I don't subscribe to that stuff and so I quoted the part that was readily available to be read. Doesn't change the overall point that Sid's not going to throw anyone under the bus -- whether it be coach or fellow teammate -- even if they ARE the reason for the struggles. That's just not Sid's style.

I've been accused of being a Yohe apologist which is bullshit. Making up criticisms that support one's position without context or reading the article is also bullshit.
This is twice now where you've suggested I've accused you of being a Yohe apologist. The other thread got closed before I could respond, so I'll do so here. My comment (in the other thread) wasn't directed at you. It was at someone else who is notorious for constantly defending Yohe and criticizing anyone who dares do so.

It’s just a reverse retro.

I know, I'm just saying I didn't understand the reason for light blue because it looks goofy on that team. Even If they used the traditional navy blue that they brought out in the late 90s that would have made more sense (and look alot better).

Unless they were paying homage to these thirds. I think they wore these in the early 2010s (I forget) but I thought these were ugly too.

Interesting film. Did you identify as one of "us", or one of "them"? Too bad you had to bookend that film with accounting and then the Sharks game. Bet the martini helped dull the senses at least. ;-)
If I were to answer this question, probably somewhere in between.
But really, the Beth Harmon character is the only one presented sympathetically. The "us" end up killing everyone and are general psychopaths in a cult. Not exactly a team you want to play on.

I grew up with some upper-middle class privilege. But I've always treated service workers well, my Uber rating's 4.89/5. And despite my many years living in Chicago, I never had the desire to visit Alinea which is one of the main entities parodied in the film. The fine dining/foodie cult really sucks. I've felt that way for years. I'd rather eat some mexican or thai food or ramen/pho than whatever that is. But there were people who were dragged to the restaurant that he killed based on class, so if I found myself there I wouldn't have made it out alive.

The posters who relentlessly rip on Josh Yohe, who makes about as much as the local librarian I'm about to visit, while relentlessly pumping players making >=$6M USD annually (aside from whichever one they vote off the island on a given year) are definitely "them" though.
