Because he used it in the 3rd period when we got outscored 4 to 1 at 5v5 to a bad team on a B2B. I could see sitting on a bad loss like this for 9 days leading to a few minor changes.
Besides, GCRak has been used a fair amount since Rak has been here. We shouldn't rule it out just for the sake of frustration with the coach. It's been close to 50/50 in terms of Rak with both Centers.

Note that I didn't predict one way or the other, so please don't @ me when it's GCR again on Feb. 7.
I think the chances rise greatly in these circumstances though. That makes sense to me based on patterns I've seen from Sullivan in the past. He's not happy with how they're playing atm. He's not saying the usual crap about them playing hard and not getting rewarded. He is admitting to the inconsistency. He is admitting to the poor performance in the bottom 6.
There's gonna be 9 days for him and the coaching staff to discuss what they can fix and to recharge their batteries.
I wish I shared your optimism. What I see is a coach who is so stubborn at this point that he refuses to see the obvious. If he thought Rust was a problem on that line, he would have changed it long before tonight. It's not like that line's been humming along until the San Jose game. It's been utter crap since Day 1. Sullivan's arrogance hasn't allowed him to accept that.

I thought the Pens Robo Pigeon was bad... This looks like a Palm tree and a really weird looking putter.

Even the frond bands look like shit. Florida has gone to the dogs.

It’s wild to me two “fans” have said they wouldn’t care if the Penguins left Pittsburgh.

I just can’t fathom thinking that way and I’ve never even lived in Pittsburgh.
Never underestimate self-entitlement, Pixies...

I think he knows it's a problem just like we all do, but desperately wants it to work to fulfill his ideal vision of the top 6. He wants it to perform like in the playoffs, and be proven right. He is prideful, much like HF posters. He also believes in the balance of the ZMRak line, which he's spoken on. Compatible play styles and all that, which I suppose has some merit.

The core problem is he has a different idea of what our best combos are on paper compared to the fans, going back to the summer.
He's looking at it theoretically instead of what's actually taking place.

The fact that he doesn't consider ZCRak and GMRust viable experimental options is beyond my understanding though. I wish a media member brought it up just to get the thought into circulation, which has led to changes a few times this year. Maybe I'll ask Danny Shirey to ask him. Or Taylor Haase.

If we had better goaltending, and better defense the lines wouldn't really matter.

Our goaltending and defense would be better if we used the right lines. That's the point. It's not just about how much they score. The team would play with more energy, positivity, and attention to detail. More control of territory and HDC's. Fewer lost battles on the walls and easy exits for the opposition. It's a ripple effect.
Look at the record with this board's ideal top 6 vs Sullivan's ideal top 6. It's the gap between a team's P% that has a realistic shot at Bedard, and a division leader's P%.

I'm not saying it's the solution to all of our problems necessarily, but it certainly increases our chances of winning games significantly.

But did anyone ask him if the system is too difficult to be played consistently by such an old group of players and such dumb players as the Pens have? I didn’t think so…lol
Not to mention it's not like Sid to throw the coach under the bus so blatantly.

What's he going to say? "Yeah, Sullivan's system is garbage. It's the reason we look disorganized so much"?

So Yohe using Sid's quote as some sort of "proof it's not the system" is stupid. Ask Sid whether he thinks DeSmith's goaltending is costing them games and I bet he'll give a definite "No, we have to be better in front of him" response.

I honestly think I'm starting to care more about the Pirates than the Penguins at this point.

This Penguins team is spent and the Pirates at least have a few pieces that delude me into thinking there could be something there.

If Yohe actually used Sid's quote in that context, I would agree with you. But apparently you didn't read it, because that isn't what happened. The very next line : "Sullivan was asked whether this is merely a problem with the Penguins or whether the coaching staff needs to take some blame, too. He didn’t hesitate to accept some accountability. “It starts with me,” Sullivan said. “I have to do a better job of coaching these guys.” A paragraph later, he writes "This kind of stuff just can’t keep happening, and yet it does. It’s unprofessional. It’s an indication of low hockey IQ. And, frankly, it doesn’t make the coaching staff look all that great, either. It’s well beyond the point of being a broken record."

I've been accused of being a Yohe apologist which is bullshit. Making up criticisms that support one's position without context or reading the article is also bullshit.

You're spot-on with the "we have to be better in front of him" bet. Sid is that kind of guy. The closest he ever gets to pointing fingers is using the word "we". I respect his class and respect of others given some of the situations he's endured the past 18 years.
So I got some tacos, studied some accounting, had a couple of drinks.
Wife and I watched "The Menu" which actually depicts how I feel about this entire team.
Made a martini. Beefeater and Lillet Blanc.

Then I watched this game, sped up on FuboTV. It was so bad that I could only stomach like 23 minutes of game action. Kept waiting for us to not be terrible; it didn't happen.
Interesting film. Did you identify as one of "us", or one of "them"? Too bad you had to bookend that film with accounting and then the Sharks game. Bet the martini helped dull the senses at least. ;-)

I’m confused why you’ve brought up Karlsson’s goal being Poehling’s fault multiple times.

Karlsson was Heinen’s man in that sequence and our D completely sold out and let Karlsson walk in.

You can even see Letang tell Heinen to cover Karlsson in the clip.

And yet, Heinen will get opportunity #20 to keep playing on this f***ing team. Apparently accountability is just fun for Sullivan to say, but never implement. He loved to hold Kapanen accountable but Heinen? Nah.

I just love how he curls back and let’s his man skate right in front of the crease, like this is a player that apparently Sullivan trusts to play a strong 2way game. Yet I see low IQ plays from him consistently.

It’s wild to me two “fans” have said they wouldn’t care if the Penguins left Pittsburgh.

I just can’t fathom thinking that way and I’ve never even lived in Pittsburgh.

That’s ridiculous to me as well.

They won't relocate. Of course.

But if they did in 2023, I wouldn't care as much as I would have in 2006. If they moved to Kansas City I could get the whatever-Center Ice package and watch them.

But either way, the interest from this city is about to crawl to a standstill. The good thing about that is I'll be able to grab 2 tickets for a Tuesday-Wednesday game for like $50 combined. If I want to.
You don’t know the quality of the picks we’re going to get in the future. It only takes getting a guy like a Kaprizov to totally breathe new life into a floundering franchise. I think he was a 5th rounder. At some point in the near future you’d expect that we’ll be picking in the top-10 again too. Hell, maybe even top-5. Sometimes you only need one good draft and you’re right back in the thick of things with exciting young players that people want to pay to watch.

As an art-adjacent PhD, I’d be very happy to document its provenance for a modest fee.
Please understand, this will potentially expose you to United States sourced income tax unless your due diligence with said artwork is conducted in CZ. This will not be an easy transaction to explain to Customs. I won't even get into my distrust of artsy folk and their often expansive concept of the term "modest". I will not pay EU VAT, or whatever the hell you Socialists demand. Alternatively, may we negotiate a Chad Ruh NFT? Perhaps a gladiator? I'd prefer an astronaut, superhero or even a cowboy, but those have already been minted by Tangerine Dream. CZ couldn't care less about copyrights, I presume? I recommend your retaining @Andy99 before we proceed to a memo of understanding. Details are everything, but if we reduce this to crypto, I think we're in the clear.
