Best case is probably to sign him to a reasonable contract before he gets to FA status. Maybe 3 million per year? A bit more? It depends on whether you think the additional ice time he gets on a bad team compensates for playing on a team that doesn’t generate much offense.

I imagine something like 4x3.5 max but he’s easily 2C right now so habs don’t have much leverage.

They might be afraid and play him with Laine so his stats are padded ahead of going ufa. They closed out tonight’s game together I think.

I’d rather they overpay a real offensive 2c and play youth bottom 6 if it comes down to a choice there but so many scenarios ahead.

hope they don't overpay to keep him because that shooting percentage isn't replicable. but those who said if you get rid of him, you'll be paying the same price to replace him are right.

i want a bigger bottom 6 but Evans has rounded out his game. he used to be way more vanilla. he's good enough now that you can sacrifice some size for what he brings to the table. we just have to develop or bring in some big bottom 6 wingers (Xhekaj, Tuch)

He is having an excellent season so far...............good tiing on his part.
I think in January we hear about a 4 year extension......3.5M X 4 years. 14M should do it, and it doubles his current contract. He deserves that for sure.

I would even give him a shot at the 2C position

I'd go as high as 4x4 on him. I think his game will age well, and losing him would be a large step back that we frankly can't afford

100% resign him, just don't give him a NTC. If he becomes expendable in the future, as long as the contract is alright, we can get something reasonable in return.

Outscoring slaf from the bottom six. Not sure who anyone thinks we're replacing him with.

I've always never really liked him for some odd reason, but now he's a complete gem, He's definitely proved his middle six

I do not understand, this management team is supposed to be all about communication, yet Evans hears nothing about his contract status. If they want to trade him, let him know. If they want to re-sign him, let him know. If they are deciding, let him know!

Evans is going to want something close to a Blake Coleman type of deal and why wouldn't he?

People need to look at what Coleman did for Tampa in their cup winning seasons Evans can have that same kind of impact.
While Coleman is still playing decent hockey for Calgary at 33 4.9 x 6 was too steep IMO.

Has more points than Newhook and Dach combined.
Dach is understandable. Caufield struggled a lot with his shoulder in the beginning. Knees are even more sensitive. Newhook has no excuse to be bad with the linemates and minutes he got so far. Not sure what to do with him as our second line is being outscored by our third and fourth lines.

He will be the 3rd line center next season and Beck will Center the 4th.
No. Newhook will center the 3rd line between Gallagher and Anderson, and Beck will center the 4th line between Armia and Heineman. Habs will re-sign Armia for another two years. Evans is going UFA and will earn big bucks.

Fans of course will not like that, but that's the way to go.

Dach is understandable, but he shouldnt be playing 2C with a premiere player if not 100%. Also, he and the org stated he was ready to go by the end of last season, so it's a bit of a weak excuse, and the comparison with Caufield, who had less recovery time, is pretty lame. While Caufield had goal scoring issues to start the season, he was still a playmaking beast and was putting in effort. Dach cant even improve his faceoff ability? The dude is the minus leader in the entire league and looks disinterested out there most times.
