If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Due the love of former Soo players its seems the odds on favorite is that Matt Murray will be a Leaf.
It’s a done deal I forgot lol.

Let them give him that. I believe they’ll come to regret it before too long.

Campbell is not Hyman.

Jack is too inconsistent and too mentally fragile to give that large of a contract to.

That contract will quickly become a buyout candidate in a year or two.

And yet, he's still one of the best options available to the Leafs at this stage in the game.

I guess procrastinating to wait until free agency opens to sign both goalie spots wasn't such a great idea after all?

Should have traded and signed the AHL level Georgiev, right?

Would you rather have Campbell or Murray? I’d stick with Jack, warts too but Murray is such a crap shoot. I guess Murray could have higher upside if it all worked out. What a gamble.

Some are actually pissed off this arrogant bunch of rookie losers are wasting years away. Not sure what people are expecting with this teams playoff record. Good for you if you're happy - I expected more and I'm sure Dubas did too
I don't think about this moaning and whining changes everything, but it detracts and destroys every possible thread here to whine fest and history lesson of past do or do nots. Where we go over and over and over again all the moves, because those kept brought into now and then discussion.

Just bash Murray and choice of our goalie, coaching decisions and what happens now. We don't have to whine about Dubas or Keefe being here, because they will and after next season they might not based on results.

We can have discussion about Murray without having to bash Dubas and moan about everything. It is what it is.

I do not want Murray but this makes me understand I know nothing like jon

Maybe the new goalie team has seen something?
There is also the idea that he will be a 1B or this is all smoke and we are bored and making a mountain out of a mole hill?
:dunno:

Playing a better defensive system in front of whatever goaltender they get would be helpful.

Bringing in a coach like Trotz would help in that regard.

If we believe that, and the club is legitimately adding Murray for god knows what reason, what level of battery mate would it take to be a clear upgrade on Jack or is 2021 JC dead and gone?

Dubas does not have a death wish, and even if he did Shanny will not go down on that ship with him. There is a legit #1 coming but who could it be if there is a $3.125M backup? If they are adding a guy who was .906 on a club who's #1 was .917 he is not the horse Dubas is hitching his career to.

They are either cycling Murray through a 3rd club for further retention or they will need to have a $3M legit #1. This is where it gets complicated because if the Leafs are asking the Sens to eat half, plus pay a tax, how much can that sweetener possibly be? And for a 3rd club to eat $1.55M of the Murray deal what is the net value of the sweetener once this is paid, and you still have a guy who is sub .900 for the last 3 years.

There has to be a win scenario for the club somehow, but I can't see it.

Murray is shit. We laughed at the Sens signing him. What else is there to say? We're supposed to be this big-bad machine that shits elite, and we're discussing having Matt f***ing Murray on our team.

I'm big on the Trotz idea. Even started a thread about it
The D wasn't the issue, nor was the coaching. The franchise broke the record for most points this past season.

Don't mind Trotz, but the timing isn't right. Unless it's for managing the Blue Jays. lol

Waiting is almost never a good idea as you lose control of your destiny.

But the Leafs, largely due to their cap constraints and unwillingness to make a significant hockey trade, have little choice.

So here we are.

Yes, just like after every unsuccessful first round playoff exit, we get to hear the Dubas defenders give us excuses about how the failure wasn’t Dubas’s fault and that next year will be different.

This year excuses were that; we were robbed by the refs, there is a flat salary cap and, the idea that we actually started in the conference finals as we had to face TB in the opening round.

It’s almost as annoying as the “Dekes for Dubas” love fest.

After 55 years cup-less, the team should just be happy there are still passionate Leaf fans left who still care.
Those two posters are annoying, no argument from me there and that's why I ignore them. But that's two posters who praise every move Dubas makes vs what seems like about two thousand who seem to think that everything he's ever done is wrong.

there was also an article posted that said Campbell is the priority and talking with Ottawa/Minnesota was more information gathering than anything else.

Well Campbell was shit too for 1/2 of the season and average for 1/4.

At least Murray has 2 cups and we know he CAN win a round or steal a game.

You can't pay Jack 5 x 5 and in 2 years can't win a series or 5 closing series games.

The more I think about Matt Murray, the less I’m convinced.

Starting from the theory that we’re at elite team that can basically win with nothing but average goaltending, (I’ll work with you on this one) it would imply all we are missing is an average, robotic and dependable goalie who can play X games and away we go. Basically a Kuemper, Francouz. Or whatever Colorado is now attempting with a Georgiev. Ok fine.

So how does a boom bust and completely unreliable Matt Murray help this cause? If all we need is a ground ball of goalies, why have the Leafs elected to go for the home run hit?

LOL 👍 I was watching the local little league this afternoon and was thinking a few of them could help the Jays right now.
