If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

So there is a plan, the plan is always fluid because you can't predict the future, right?

There is plenty to criticize Dubas for but saying that he's just winging it isn't fair. It might not be what you want and what not but I'm sure they believe they have some plan they know will work out.
Saying the plan is fluid, well sure of course it is. What I’m saying if I told you last November we’d be sitting here July 10 on the cusp of free agency without a 1 or 1A or even a reliable backup, you’d probably say things hadn’t gone according to plan. Scrambling, fluid, whatever you attach, I don’t see a master plan at play here. I’m still confident we do something, because we 1000 percent have to, it’s just we’re operating from a weaker position atm, and I think that’s fair comment all day long.

People saying “don’t worry Dubas has a plan” I mean come on, it’s July 10th and we have no goalies, who “plans” that? We’re scrambling, don’t kid yourself, something will happen but it’s hardly some genius being orchestrated now.

Dubas seems like he does this sort of thing a lot. For sure, he is murdering our asset values worse than Nonis did, if that's even possible. I thought I would come back after 2 years and people would say, oh hey, good calls back then. It's not the case, we're now quadrupling down on PO failures and making excuses.

At this point... MLSE as a whole should be fired and a then perhaps they should hire Hunter and say, build it from the ground up.

Stupid Dubas for not signing all these goalies prior to UFA.

Might wanna clean up some of the drool in the aisles here.

Who are the teams looking to add a significant caphit goalie as we enter UFA season.

Toronto
Edmonton
Washington

maybe SJ?

SJ has 3 goaltenders and no cap space? They need to re-sign Kahkonen.

Buffalo will probably look for cheaper alternatives but likely could be going for one too.

I mean, we are getting a goalie, that isn’t any question or for someone to say “ah duh you think we aren’t doing something?” It’s what are we getting and do we need to overpay now because the window is closing very soon for next year. It’s a critical moment for the team and being nervous about a precarious position seems common sense, apart from mindless fanboy rationales.

Get it right Kyle.

You lost me at Hunter

If the Leafs decide to move on from Dubas they won’t be going with a rookie GM again.

The plan is the same as the other teams going into free agency looking for a goaltender or a defenseman or a forward or any important position. I don't understand the problem and creating an air of "we're in a position of weakness" is rather bizarre. Free agency is there for a reason, not because you don't have a plan.

Teams are talking and teams are still going through whatever process they go through. I'm sure the Leafs have a really good idea of what they want to do, just like the Oilers, Washington, etc.

Leafs could easily keep Campbell but are looking at their options and want to make sure their decision is not limited to just keeping Campbell. It doesn't help that he wants to get paid more than what he should be getting, but that's the business. What you're saying is that you wanted the Leafs to re-sign Campbell or trade for a goaltender 10 months ago?

Remember that the difference between having two NHL level goalies under contract and none under contract is the value of a 7th round pick.

It's a position of weakness because there are way more serviceable forwards and defensemen available in free agency than serviceable goaltenders.

There are plenty of goaltenders available through trade and free agency. You think teams will give you a top 6 forward just because you struck out in free agency? Weakness is weakness no matter the position. You'll be scrambling just the same with this logic.

Creating negativity just to be negative is a good way to being constantly unhappy. It's ok to look at more than being miserable about everything and look at both sides of the coin instead of everything justifies being unhappy or negative.

Its only a concern if the club actually gets caught without a chair when the music stops and as long as Lou is sitting on a $5M backup that won't happen. The Isles need Varly gone and while they won't give him away its not a bidding war situation either. To me thats their fallback, if not an ongoing negotiation right now.

I believe the team is probably working on a couple of different scenarios in addition to Campbell and the failure to have a solution already is just the time it takes to play out. It would be nice if some stuff leaked out but that doesn't happen with this regime. I hate to tell you trust in the Dube but this is an area I have a lot of faith in him (not selecting goalies but solving lineup holes). He knows he needs to get it right and they have the assets to get anyone available without messing with their roster so it will get done, and only the spend is in doubt.

Please show me an article or video where someone says that…literally not one article has that I’m willing to bet

Lol run what back?! A first round exit…?
I didn't know it was my job to educate you about such terms. Watch a trade deadline show, they will mention it more than a few times, I am not here to cure your ignorance.

Fair comment.

The smartest GMs in the league have an A B and C plan. Kyle basically shows us through his actions that he has an ADHD plan. He's a scrambler GM trying to throw stuff at the wall now and hoping it sticks. We haven't made it past Round 1 for how many years and we have who? Matthews and who else? Marner, JT, Nylander as a bonus. That's disgraceful.

It's just bad and it's not on how I feel about things, it's on Dubas for not getting the job done.

You're right. He's just pretending and scrambling. He's terrible. We're doomed. :(

How many Stanley cup winning GMs had 0 tenders signed the year prior to their team winning the cup? We can just statistically shred this guy right now, nothing supports his actions leading to team success. If you can find some I am all ears. I want to say, I was wrong about Dubas, this guy has got what it takes and I am confident. I do and I mean that. I want to love Kyle Dubas for the job he is doing with our Team
