I get the impression people think that, because Price isn't diving from post to post to make a save, he hasn't done anything note worthy (I call it Tim Thomas syndrome). The reason you never see this is because he's almost never out of position.
Having that kind of D in front of him is definitely helping but he's still ALWAYS where he needs be to make the save. He's reading the play very well, he almost never gives up a rebound, and his vision through traffic has been stellar.
I'm still not saying he should be MVP. Doughty and Weber are easily ahead of him. Then there are a few guys that are more in his tier that could take it home too (I would even say Crosby since he's generating so many chances that Kunitz can't cash in on cause he's Kunitz.)
The stories people like to make up to push their agenda are astounding.
"Omg Carey Price is so terrible, we'll be so lucky if we win with such a terrible goalie."
Posts a 0.963 save percentage, and 0.74 GAA. Both are 2nd in the tournament, behind Hiller and the Swiss team.
"Omg any Canadian goalie could win..."
Keep telling yourself that buddy. Price has been solid. He's bailed out Canada quite a few times. The only goalie that could have come close to the performance that Price is having is Luongo.
Was the 2010 team not filled with a pretty star studded defense as well? Luongo had some trouble keeping pucks out of his net if I remember correctly. He was still great though, but Price has just been better. No refuting that.
I understand your point and agree that sometimes players who are playing good but not flashy get over looked. But Tim Thomas syndrome? I remember him all over the place playing an unorthodox style so he kinda stood out lol. IMO a good example would be Gunnarsson. He plays a very solid D game but tends to get overlooked because he is so smooth and non flashy.
Relax manwhat he said is probably true tho. No slight to Price but our Defensive game has been so solid that any above avg goalie should put up similar #'s.
the problem with this is that with canada's lack of goal scoring, putting up "similar" numbers wouldn't be enough. Any less than what price has done so far and canada wouldn't be competing for gold.
I don't even know if you're joking. Carter is, as he usually is, very strong defensively. Aside from a particularly uninspired stretch in Columbus (in which he also was coming off a broken foot), he's always been a very strong defensive player.
I'm an Habs and a Price fan but personally i don't care if he gets MVP or not. In fact i'd pick Doughty or Karlsson ahead of him
What makes me smile however is all the moronic posters on here who are eating crow now after bashing Price against Norway and Latvia. Those who said he was trash and that it was his fault because he couldn't stop a last second deflected shot while being screened against Norway or that he was a "liability" for Team Canada because he couldn't stop that breakaway against Latvia. You guys know who you are and i hope that crow taste good.
Silencing haters and those who have an agenda against him is just as good as him getting MVP for me
Price's total shots faced in each game: 31, 16, 20, 15 or an average of 20.5 shots against.
Im not seeing an MVP. Its not like he's faced 35+ shots a game to get Canada into the Gold Medal game.
1 good game and 3 easy games.
Benn is currently 57th on scoring leaders list. That's not worth the best forward trophy no matter how big his two goals were.Best defencemen: Drew Doughty, Shea Weber, Erik Karlsson
Best forward: Jamie Benn
Best goalie: Carey Price, Henrik Lundqvist
Price has been very good, much better than I thought he would be. But he isn't the reason Canada is winning games. Stifling defense is. Unless Price stands on his head during the gold, Doughty should be the team MVP.
Who knows though, if any individual player has a monster preformance in the gold medal game it will trump the rest of the tourny.
if luongo was in nets vs america we wouldnt be in the finals
