Hopefully we can grab a win vs the Islanders. My only beef with this team is that, when Gallant was hired, Drury talked about players slotting where they belong. If that actually happened Goodrow would be on the 3rd line center or 4th line, Brodzinski would be either 4th or Hartford, Vesey 4th line. We are missing 1 player for our top 9, otherwise it should be

Panarin Zib Kravtsov
Kreider Trochek ???
Laf Chytil Kakko
Vesey Goodrow Gauthier

I can handle Vesey with Kreider and Trochek, and Brodzinski taking that spot on the 4th line. Does this seem unreasonable to anyone???

I just saw the trip.

These refs are probably related to our prosecutors and our judges.

"Hit a lady with a bag of poop? Eh, go on! Get out of here, you little rascal! Don't do it again. Pinky promise?"
They asked GG at the presser about it and he says ..."well it's gotta be a penalty.....tripping or interference with their goalie" so why ddidn't they call that one then......well .......we know the answer don't we.

tough to take issue with anything the team did in this one. 3rd in 4, on the road in a place that's tough to win and controlled virtually the entire game. other than posts continuing to be an issue and not having that killer instinct to just will a puck across it was a great game. pk got beat but i mean, it's not even like those were bad pk's....seeing eye shots happen.

on the other hand the refs were fvking appalling. let pitt get away with several blatant hooks/holds/interferences and were eagle eyed for the slightest infraction. felt like they weren't even pretending. i was out so didn't get a replay, but in the 3rd looked like they might have been guilty of delay of game and the refs didn't pretend to care. mika's rush the ref didn't CONSIDER raising his arm. you can talk all you want about dealing with bad calls and taking advantage of yours, but i have a tough time swallowing that with this one given their seeing eye goals - had our pp been picked apart that would hold more water. even moreso when our pp created more when the refs were still calling penalties on pitt but nothing would drop. in the end its just a well played game between 2 good teams where we were far better for most of 60 mins - the refs were the difference. sucks but these nights happen, would be really nice if they didn't screw us in a 4 pt game though. as infuriating as it is, nothing we can do about it

We outplayed them a healthy portion of the game. The first few minutes of the second I thought we were on a power play.

We lost the game because of their two power play goals and we did not get some obvious calls. Not sure we would have scored on them. Jarry outplayed Shesty .929 to .875

I was made fun of beginning of the year here when i said sammy blais cap space is worth more than sammy blais. Anyone disagree anymore?

Blais should be healthy scratched for a month. He’s pathetic and to take that type of penalty that killed this great team effort. Enjoy the press box.
Ive said it since october, hes not a nhl player. Hes a sunk cost. Rydahl is FAR superior. Same with cuylee. I understand giving cuylee a full year in hartford but inexcusable to have blais on an nhl roster. Send him to hartford. $1.525!?! LOL

The thing that bugs me about the trade is that I feel like it's some insight into how Drury sees the game and I don't like it. I remember when I first started watching hockey 20 years ago the word "finesse" was considered a slur and skill for the most part was derided and I feel like Drury is a throwback to that. Not to mentioned 20 years ago there was a stigma of being a soft skilled European. Buchnevich was too skilled for Drury without being so skilled where he's Panarin level and you have to live him being a "soft Euro".
It had nothing to do with Buchnevich being too skilled for Drury IMO. I actually thought Buch was a guy with an edge to his game. I just think they knew there was no way they could resign him. I guess they could have kept him last year and then let him walk like they did with Strome but they didn't want to do that apparently. If Blais had remained healthy I think the narrative would be different but he didn't and his play this year has been awful so the trade looks even worse.

I guess it's the type of player he get back in the trade and the Tom Wilson incident that makes me think they were trying to add sandpaper instead of the skilled guy. Are you telling me that even the pre-St. Louis Buchnevich couldn't have gotten us more? I know he's younger and contracts are in play but Nils Lundkvist got us more.

You underrate the value of cost control.

The trade was horrible but basically all trades in that scenario are horrible.

In hindsight, they should have kept Buch fit the season and let him walk.

The narrative was that we needed to cheat ice time for the kids. That didn’t happen either, so we should have just kept the player.

I hate Sammy Blah.

Maybe the Wilson thing had something to do with it but I think they just made up their minds to trade Buch because they knew they weren't going to be able to sign him because of cap constraints. I still think it was a bad trade as I have already stated and the return should have been better but the sting would have been less if Blais remained healthy.

Good post.

This game was lost in the 2nd half of the 2nd period. It's like we had a sugar crash & stopped skating.

Couldn't agree more about Zib. He's in a bad funk. Not shooting, forcing bad passes...just looks like he has no confidence in his game right now.

Agree in particular w/the bolded. One part of the problem is that our lines don't have an identity (probably because they get rearranged 15 times a game). We need an "energy" line to send out that can skate balls to the wall and change the energy of the game. Three guys who play the way Blais played last year. We don't have that. At least not consistently.

Another problem with the second half of period 2 is that the team allowed the Pens to bait them. The Penguins players know that they have some leash on their own ice. They were getting dominated, so out came the chippy plays and cheap shots. The cross check that knocked the goal off. The interference after the hit on Blais. The Rangers, even though it wasn't big retaliation, still got suckered into retaliation, and in that rink, they have to play with the awareness that it will always get called. So I was pissed about the reffing, but I was more pissed that the Rangers put themselves into a position where the home cooking could be dished out. This isn't a new thing with Pittsburgh. They have to ignore it and stick to their game.

Can you imagine if Crosby was tripped going to the net like that? Lol

The UN human rights council would have called three f***ing special meetings, condemning these crimes against humanity.

Absolutely shocking non call, absolute joke that can't be challenged. Worst part, not surprised, it's the Pens, we have seen this for 15 years.
