  • Steve Asmussen and his enormous stable had 12 wins the past two days. He sent out horses at six tracks and finished 37 12-8-5 including five wins on Sunday. At last check, he has 10,146 wins which is roughly 2,500 more than his closest challenger in North America annals.
  • Todd Pletcher has been suspended 14 days and fined $2,000 by the New York State Gaming Commission for a July 30, 2022, positive test for the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory phenylbutazone in the then-3-year-old Tapit colt, Capensis. It is the sixth positive test for a Pletcher runner in the last year. [ Pletcher Suspended 14 Days, Fined $2,000 For 2022 Bute Positive - Horse Racing News | Paulick Report ]
Belmont (New York):
  • Handle: More than $15 million.
  • Race 2: Closing Act (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Steve Asmussen) won the $150,000 Astoria Stakes. The 2-year-old Munnings filly was bred in Texas. I truly do not know the most recent time a Texas-bred won at a NYRA track.

  • Race 5: L Street Lady (Manny Franco/Brittany Russell) won the $150,000 Jersey Girl Stakes at 12-to-1. The 3-year-old Munnings filly won for the third time in five starts, This is bigger than the Belmont Stakes! Brittany Russell just won the Jersey Girl, one of my favorite races at Belmont and paid $36. Go get em Brit. She is a PA-girl by way of MD.

  • Race 9: Gold Sweep (Jose Ortiz/Steve Asmussen) won the $150,000 Tremont Stakes. The $,50 Pick 5 paid over $29,000.

  • Race 10: Prerequisite (Flavien Prat/Chad Brown) won Grade 2 $200,000 Wonder Again Stakes.

  • Race11: The $1 Pick 6 rocked the track and paid over $92,000.
Ellis Park (Kentucky):
  • Steve Asmussen added three wins to his gigantic career total.
  • Race 9: Disarm (Joel Rosario/Steve Asmussen) won the Grade 3 $400,000 Matt Winn Stakes.

Santa Anita (California):
  • Kent Desormeaux rode three winners for the second straight day. He ended the period 11 6-0-2. Today he won with his first three rides.

He was like #1 handicapper, so I guess we’ll see him weekly as FS1 or FS2 does weekly NYRA broadcasts. I never watched them consistently so I don’t know how good the my are.
you likely won't see that unless it's on the main network..... it's the same title whether or not the NYRA Tracks are running..... remember, ADR also covered Churchill before the relocation to Ellis, and then Saratoga's meet begins at the same time if Churchill elects to return in July

Thanks FOX for that excellent race call

Invest in a working sound system and mics
problem is why was FS1 showing it at virtually the same time Fox was

Does Big Fox have any other dates?

Hopefully this foal is happy and healthy and meets with success on and off the track.

Zenyatta, a brilliant competitor on the racetrack but who has had a troubled career as a broodmare, foaled a filly on Friday at the Farish family's Lane's End in Versailles, Ky., Bill Farish told FanDuel TV in a Saturday interview.
Zenyatta was bred to War Front for 2023.
Zenyatta.com reports that the filly was born during sunset, 9:18 p.m. (ET) at Lane's End and that the new filly will be Zenyatta's last as she will be retired from breeding.

NYRA has openly stated today its desire to hold the 2025 Belmont Stakes at Saratoga.

That would adjust the Saratoga schedule a month earlier than normal.

There is a possibility that the project completion could be done by 2026 Belmont but if not Belmont-at-Saratoga could be held then, too.

Then comes the Breeders' Cup bid.

Fun times in New York.

Ellis Park's card on Saturday includes two $120,000 MSW races in addition to two stakes.

Wet Paint and Hoosier Philly in the Monomoy.

Check out More than looks in the 6th race.
His last race was tremendous. Ran against the bias.
Closed like a freight train.
Won‘t pay anything though.

Bob Baffert has a $1.5 million Into Mischief colt making a debut on Saturday in a $100,000 race. Juan Hernandez riding Mirahmadi who is named after the track race caller.

Disheartening. Another glorious facility to the graveyard. Absolutely pitiful decision by Churchill from a non-business perspective. No way to watch that clip without a nauseating conclusion.

Meanwhile, Hawthorne's $250 million sports betting parlor/racino may undergo construction later this year which should have a positive affect on racing within the state. From how I interpret things, a harness track was authorized to be built somewhere in Chicagoland so that Hawthorne can end its mix racing and concentrate solely on T-breds; however, that seems stagnant.

One separate plan to construct a racino-harness track is within range of Hawthorne and by law the ownership there has vetoing power. A group had $350 million to construct the harness track but that desire needs authorization.

Belmont (New York):
  • Handle: Just under $10 million.
  • Race 10: The $1 Pick 6 paid over $46,000.
  • John Velazquez is the biggest money earner in North America history but his talents generally don't provide for too many bombs. He won with a 22-to-1 shot with that first-time starter winning the finale. Velazquez finished a 3-win day 4 3-1-0. The bomber in the finale was for Mark Hennig who had a brutally tough week.

Delaware Park (Delaware):
  • Canceled: Heavy rains and potential flooding concerns.
Laurel (Maryland):
  • Sheldon Russell joined John Velazquez in a 4 3-1-0 afternoon. But while horse racing has its complexities and oddities, one that I have noticed is how the husband and wife team of Sheldon and Brittany Russell seem to excel on Fridays. Just one opportunity together today and another winner. :naughty:

Woodbine (Ontario):
  • Race 9: Stormin Dave (Skye Chernetz/David Cotey) tried turf for the first time and blitzed the tote board as the 21-to-1 shot topped high payouts. A successful $1 Pick 3 returned more than $3500. The $1 Pick 4 paid roughly $50,000. Cotey is in his mid-70s and uses the jockey often including all seven mounts dating back to June 9. He trained future Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird prior to a sale to New Mexico-based owners. Chernetz won Apprentice of the Year in Canada a few years ago. Today, she helped win the hearts of many.

Very interesting chart. Sure, Prat rides often in California where the competition is generally lesser than the East and central parts of the nation but...

Has Chicagoland been without a harness track since Balmoral went out?

  • Brittany Russell had a 4- win day. She won twice at Delaware and Laurel. She finished 6 4-2-0.
  • Chad Brown had a 4- win day. He finished 9 4-0-1
Belmont (New York):
  • Irad Ortiz, Jr. had another brilliant day with a 5-win performance including three for Chad Brown. The jockey has 201 wins this year which is 62 more than his closest competitor.
1687052036684.png
  • Chad Brown sent out four horses, three returned winners.
  • Race 5: Donegal Forever (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Todd Pletcher) looked strong in a debut win.

  • Race 9: Goodnight Olive (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Chad Brown) won the $200,000 Grade 2 Bed o' Roses Stakes by a neck. The 5-year-old daughter to Ghostzapper is a staggering 10 8-1-1 lifetime with over $1.5 million earned. She is the Eclipse Award 2022 Champion Female Sprinter.

1687052922534.png
Monmouth (New Jersey):
  • Card: 14 races in which three were graded stakes.
  • Handle: Exceeded $8 million.
  • Race 11: Consumer Spending (Samy Camacho/Chad Brown) was cold on the board yet won the $150,000 Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes.

  • Race 12: Petulante (Luis Saez/Victor Barboza, Jr.) won the $150,000 Grade 3 Salvator Mile Stakes. Arrogate the sire.

  • Race 13: Catnip (Joel Rosario/Michael Stidham) won the $150,000 Grade 3 Monmouth Stakes as the second longest odds at 6-to-1.

  • Luis Saez rode three winners.
  • Chad Brown and Robert Falcone has had much success shipping at the meet.
Laurel (Maryland):
  • Sheldon Russell-Brittany Russell finished 4 3-1-0 the past two days as a tandem. Good stuff.
  • Race 9: Be Better (Sheldon Russell/Brittany Russell), a former member of Todd Pletcher's stable owned by the high-profiled Mike Repole, dominated by more than five lengths.

  • Race 5: The Addison Pour (Sheldon Russell/Brittany Russell) was eighth at the 3/4 pole and 5th in the stretch before winning with a driving furious finish. This was one of my favorite rides of the day.

Gulfstream (Florida):
  • Leonel Reyes rode every race but the finale. He finished 11 2-3-3.
  • Race 4: Sir Khan (Gabriel Maldonado/Daniel Pita) gave the jockey his first career win in North America yet in ugly south Florida conditions.

1687050026046.png
Ellis (Kentucky):
  • Tyler Gaffalione rode three winners.
  • Race 4: Woodcourt (Jack Gilligan/John Ennis), winner, was the longest shot in the race and the only horse with a prior start.
  • Race 8: Hoosier Philly (Edgar Morales/Tom Amoss) won easily in what was billed as a match-up against Wet Paint (Tyler Gaffalione/Brad Cox) in the $175,000 Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes. The 3-year-old daughter to Into Mischief received buzz as a possible filly in the Kentucky Derby this year but after three wins to start her career, she came up short the next three times out.

  • Race 9: Vivar (Julien Leparoux/Robert Medina) won the $175,000 Chorleywood Overnight Stakes.
Santa Anita (California):
  • Handle: Roughly $13 million.
  • Antonio Fresu rode three winners and all were relatively solid prices at 6-to-1, 7-to-2 and 17-to-1. Fresu came to North America last year after riding overseas. He is 31-years-old and from Sardinia, Italy. Among his winners was on board a son to hot young sire Bolt d'Oro.

  • Race 7: Tranche (Edwin Maldonado/Luis Mendez) won the $100,000 F-T Futurity at 20-to-1, the longest shot, in a romp with much-hyped $1.05 million Mirahmadi (Juan Hernandez/Bob Baffert) placing.

  • Race 12: The $.50 Pick 5 paid out over $20,000. The $.20 Pick 6 will have a mandatory payout Sunday.

Today is closing day at Santa Anita. The track re-opens for the 9/29/2023-11/5/2023 meet. Until then, southern Cal racing will be conducted at Los Alamitos 6/23/2023-7/9/2023 and Del Mar 7/21/2023-9/10/2023.

Sunday's card at Santa Anita could see a $3 million Pick 6 Jackpot. It will be comprised of races 7 through 12.

One of the few and perhaps the only New Hampshire foal races in tonight's opener at Mountaineer. In the next gate will be a Washington foal. That could be a first.
