Odd little tidbit: the Ragners tallied 9 points on 3 goals, and 8 of the 9 points were by American players.

Random thoughts:

* McD was the first star. A two-way beast out there.

* Just a horribly officiated game. Yeesh! Non-calls (both ways, but mostly against us on those picks), bad calls (both ways), blown offsides (both ways....hate to say it but Kreider was half a step offside on the 3rd goal).

* I am 'meh' on the classic dark blue home jerseys. Okay for special occasions i.e. against Original Six teams, but not as a steady diet. Much prefer the lighter blue jerseys with diagonal "Rangers" lettering.

Eh, this team has more skill now than when Tortorella was running the team. MZA and Kreider were never trusted by Tortorella, MSL and Pouliot weren't here, and he only had Brassard and J. Moore briefly. Tortorella admits he underestimated McD, and D. Moore is more skilled than anyone he had on the 4th line. Tortorella would have had to have adapted to the transitioning away from the way he had this team playing in 2011-12.

I don't know, everybody was saying when the coaching swap happened that Vigneault would struggle hardily because the Sedins and the skilled Vancouver team were much more skilled than this team. But now Torts is in Vancouver and that team has been awful and can't score a goal to save their lives. Burrows has 0, which I only include bc I hate him and I'm happy to say it.

Also loved the effort from the top line tonight. Hope they get it going.

Even with Kreider's long slumps this year, if he can put together a 20 goal season in his rookie year, that is just fantastic.

Only 4 off, I'm hoping he can do it.

Consistency is always going to be an issue with almost every rookie. But 20 goals/40 points would be a fantastic thing.

And yes, I miss our home jerseys, too. It's starting to remind me of the late 90s when they wore the Lady Liberty 3rds constantly.

From the 45 seconds I saw of the first period and then tuning in at the end to see the salute it would appear they played a good game! *** work!

I remember how in past seasons people would say that Pietroangelo (sp?) is way better than McDonagh because of how he controls the pace of the game. Now, I feel like McDonagh completely controls the pace of the game and one of the biggest reasons we're such a good puck possession team. It looks the rink is his playground.

If it weren't for Hank stealing yet another one, McD today…I can't even call him the second star.

Meant to vote Kreider with Hank and McD, though Steps would be a 4th choice.

Great game from McD and Hank. Kreider capitalized when he got the chanes, and Step had a real heads-up game.

Good game all around.

Great to see Hank reach some milestones. Nobody deserves the be a Ranger hero more than him.

One of the better team games this season. Hank was much improved over his last few games. Deserved the shutout. The team D in front of him deserved some credit mainly because they get the blame for every game he loses.

The ref's were horrible, worse then usual. LOL on Detroit whining about missed calls on them when the ref's missed 3X as many on the Rangers.

The main board complaining about #26 diving. Maybe he went down easy but it was the third crosscheck in 8 seconds and there was no call on the first 2. You had to sell a penalty to get a call.

This might be a turn around game for the team.

Nice testament to the Rangers' depth this year. Nothing from Zuccarello, Brassard, Richards, St. Louis, or Nash. Yet, a crisp 3-0 win against a Conference opponent jockeying for playoff position.

Stepan by the way has been pretty hot lately. He has 44 points--one point behind Richards and tied with Zuccarello.

He did the same thing last year, albeit in a much shorter time frame. Once he gets going... he's going. Taking off from training camp so he can play hardball with Sather hurt him, especially considering there was a new coach implementing a new system. He should've been on the damn ice.

To be fair, it was a dive. A pretty blatant one at that. But, St Louis is a star player so he is going to get the benefit of the doubt more often than not.
