For me it was losing the last game of the season to Tampa in 10-11.

If they win, they clinch the eight seed. Lose and you're out.

And they proceeded to get smashed by Tampa. Eric Staal had one assist and was -4. Ward rocked a sterling 0.879 save percentage.

That was the point where I stopped having (positive) expectations for this team.

That was pretty awful, but at that point I still had the feeling like we had underachieved and could rebound quickly with the core we already had in place. Staal was only 26, Skinner was in Calder form, Ruutu and Cole and Jokinen all still seemed useful, Piktikkin was still hinting at #1 potential, Ward had the best year of his post-Cup career. I could squint and see a contending team somewhere in there, if we just added a piece or two in the right places.

A year later we were last in the division, the Kaberle signing had blown up in our faces, we fired Mo, Cole walked, the Jeremy Welsh experiment turned into a laugher. And from there, went into a lockout. So my ability to get excited about the team was seriously hanging by a thread.

We make the Jordan Staal trade, we sign Alex Semin, we are excite. We come out roaring in the short season, we're 13-8-1. And then it deflates like a whoopee cushion being sat on slowly. Just awful game after awful game, and that feeling that it was time to clean house and rebuild. That wasn't rock bottom, but I think it was the point where the fun stopped for me for a while.

I remember this whoopee cushion started to deflate right around the time they started selling playoff strips.

Oh, and I have a new (to me) iPhone 6S due to arrive on Thursday. An upgrade over a 4-year-old 5C is something to like.
5C?
