Are you saying that posters that desire more change than they appear to be seeing are being "too impatient". What is the acceptable time frame before one becomes "too impatient"?
Its not about being patient or not patient. it is about having the best team. Sometimes the 'best possible team' that gives you a 'chance' to win is the one you have. There is no guarantee to win. You can only put the best team on the ice. Sometimes the best team is the one you have with no changes. You may never win the cup with that team, but that doesn't mean making changes won't make things even worse. The current team 'may' give you a 10-15% chance of winning the cup in any given year. That doesn't mean making a change will make it better. You may make some moves and the end result may be a team with a 5-8% chance of winning the cup in any given year.

5-7 years in a row of a negative result does not mean a change will make things better.

BTW, I'm Personally "FOR" making some moves, I'd be OK with moving both Matthews and Marner. Not because I think that will make them better for sure. But I think a likely return for them won't make them much worse. Plus I just find this core not very likeable.

Throughout NHL history, there are a lot of seasons where the playoffs did not start with 16 teams. 2020 was one of them.

We faced Columbus in the preliminary round, which was part of the playoffs. The NHL decides this; not you, me, or anybody else.

In 2020 if you weren't good enough to make the playoffs from the gate you had another chance.
We missed two chances to get to playoffs.

NHL called it the preliminary round hence being clear on it not being the playoffs.

oh boy was Marner production good that we need to call it playoffs?

whatever the league calls it, makes sense to me to group it with actual playoffs for stat purposes...except that I guess some teams got to pad their stats playing crap teams like the leafs that year...

The NHL called it the "Cup Qualifiers", and they were very clear that it was part of the playoffs.
the conclusion of the 2019-20 regular season as well as a modified competitive playoff format that features 24 teams
The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin with the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers
All player stats are playoffs. All teams stats are playoffs. They counted it as part of Pittsburgh's consecutive playoff streak despite losing in the same round as us.
It was the playoffs. If you dislike that it was the playoffs, you can write a letter to the NHL and make your case for changing it, but until then, it was the playoffs.

never been less excited for a season. might skip this one.

ugly team.
There could be some drama unfolding with all the loose ends surrounding the team.

How leafy would it be that they have their only legit chance of winning the Atlantic and the core ends up missing the playoffs again

Its going to take a couple of years for Leafs new GM Treliving to get out of the Cap Hell he inherited before we start seeing some daylight again.

It starts with holding the line and keeping Nylander under $10 mil double digit contract or trading him, and fortunately when John Tavaras boat anchor $11 mil contract ends in 2 years and it gets cut significantly or he is let go. Hopefully but not expected Treliving gets Matthews locked in to 6+ years and off this 3-4 year stance at top dollar.

When the dust settles Leafs with see the Cap Ceiling start to increase with +$4 mil in 2025 and +$4.5 mil in 2026 and Leafs only have 2 players Matthews and Marner with double digit bloated contracts.

I really looking forward to see how Treliving builds the Leafs defense core over time to Big, Mean and Mobile, and we move on from coach Keefe and get a real coach in here as well.

So there is optimism now that we have a real GM, but it will take a little time and patience to undo the current contract mess.

I'm in the same boat. In all my time as a fan these guys are both the most talented and least likable imo. Maybe if we played a style that was more inline with my preference which is physical/high pace/pressure/speed game they would be more appealing but i'm not sure how well they would function in such a system so it may not change my opinion anyway.
I just hope our new GM doesn't over commit to maintaining this flawed core and drag this out much longer. I give him 2-3 years to straighten things out. There will be fan backlash if he makes big changes as some fans are still enamored with the core but staying the course will net similar backlash from the other side of the room. That said he knew what he was signing up for and is well paid so i'll have no sympathy when the torches and pitchforks inevitably make their appearance.

This is not a gong show. I can assure you that playoff futility is not as bad as the days when the owner wanted the head coach to wear a paper bag on his head.

The truth is it's really hard to win the cup. Even if you think you have everything, you still need to catch lightning in a bottle.

I think your post is rather harsh and powerfully jaded. You can't accuse this organization of not trying. The dream might come 4-6 years from now for all we know.
I didnt say they didnt try. They mistried. So many own rentals, so many draft picks and most can see this isnt a cup team. Dont give me luck, this team wont luck anything. As of right now we do not have the right defense or Goalie to win a cup. Like him or not Samsonov does not have a good playoff record. That defense is too soft and quite frankly Tavares isnt a captain. Keefe is at best a question mark. Thats our reality. This current team will not win a cup this year.

Why isn't Tavares a Captain?

I like the changes for this year. Regular season is a grind, they will make adjustments at the trade deadline, we don’t know what injuries or slumps will be had but a couple of new top 6. players betting on themselves, a full year of Knies, added depth I think our top. 6 is strong and a decent third line. I don’t mind the added toughness for the 4th line especially for the regular season. Overall grit has at least stayed the same.

Defense has an added a much needed offensive weapon and if he rebounds, Kilingberg may be the most important addition for the PP and overall offense from the defense. Loss of physical defenseman in Schenn needs to be addressed later in the year. Is this the year Gio declines?

One can worry for the loss of O’Rielly, I loved his effort and intensity. Everyone else is replaceable.

Who was our last captain? Dion? Was he a captain? How was his playoff success? This is just a diet of sadness soup you're on. Better you cheer for Carolina or something.

No, that defense is too soft and SAMsonov doest win rounds by himself. We were lucky to beat TB and lost some real character guys. This team ain't better. Different but not enough. We need a stud dman and they cost. We need more defense not more offense.
