What are the chances the latest news on Kap has GMBG thinking LTIR and a big (ish) deadline deal? Nelson, Boeser? What are some other targets wild fans would be interested in?

Not huge on paying for either Nelson, Boeser when we can possibly get them for free this summer.

Rakell is likely too expensive now, but I’ve wanted him for a year or two.

I like Crouse as (an admittedly risky) middle 6 acquisition who could fit well across from Foligno to create a legitimate shutdown line.

Frederic is a really good bottom 6 C IMO. Fast, big, mean. Brings some of the same characteristics than Crouse does.

Love Laughton’s versatility. Which reminds me of my other sneaky acquisition — Coyle. I think he has a few good years left and he is a guy who can play anywhere in your Top 9.

I think you go for a middle 6 F to add depth. If you want a big piece, gotta wait til summer. The problem with most these guys is we don’t have any expirings or cap space to accommodate a trade. I’m dubious about a Minnesota team being able to finesse a Vegas like IR move, but that’s probably just me being jaded

That additional year could be a way to get Boeser to sign for a little cheaper on an 8-year deal. I’d give a 2nd + B-level prospect for him, which probably isn’t enough.

I do think there is a benefit to bringing in someone that will be more than a rental, regardless of whether they may have signed in the offseason anyways. Bringing in Boeser now (if he’s one of our main targets) makes it a lot easier to avoid a bidding war in FA.

Although, looking at our roster next year I’m not sure where everyone would fit.

Kap - Rossi - Zucc
Boldy - Yurov/Ek - Boeser
Ohgren - Ek/Yurov - Hartman
Foligno - Khus - Trenin
Virus, Gaudreau

I guess you trade one of Gaudreau, Trenin, or Hartman.

Boeser is not a guy I would commit to long term, especially at the AAV he'll get

If we bridge Rossi (~$6M per) and send Hartman somewhere, we could actually make a play for Marner or Rantanen at ~$12.5M per. And that's factoring in Kaprizov getting $15M the following year. Anybody up for that?

I'm up for Rantanen, not so much Marner

Would rather drop Trenin though but I know Hartman is public enemy #1 right now

I feel like Marner gets a bad rap, that gets enhanced because of where he plays. Plus, we should probably get a good ol Canadian boy one of these years.

Hartman or Trenin. I just think it's less likely with Trenin so soon after signing. I was more just saying that that's the number that would have to come off the books.

I know it hasn't been long, but Rantanen doesn't look that great in Carolina. My question is how much did he benefit from MacKinnon?
