No way that happens, you don't bridge a talent like this. 8x9. He will be the highest paid Hab soon.
Now now a pair of 3,133,780,08$ is all a young man needs. If 3 is too much for him to handle, we can spare 2. I've good research data which suggests this would be the best solution here

Would be nice to see how he endures in a playoff series or two.
If we remain relevant past the trade deadline those tough games in March and April get ratcheted up pretty good against contenders. Hutson seems to be one of those freaks of nature who just have an abundance of energy and a quick recovery window. He's getting 8yrs and probably Slaf Caufield Suzuki money. Kent is still selling the we are building something special here with your help scenario.

Pretty obvious he will get the same deal as Slaf. Basically in line with our internal structure: 7.5 x 8. And he will sign. Why? Bc he will flourish and wants to win.

So many free agents try to squeeze every last drop from teams. Insanity. Think about it - these guys are so rich they dont know what to do with the abundance of money. Meaningless beyond a certain point. Ask yourself, if you made $60 effing MILLION, but would have a better shot at Legacy for $50 MILLION, who on earth wouldn't take that?

Idgaf about personal stats --- if said player wants to creat a legacy they gotta win a cup.. quite frankly, McDavid and Drai can keep their extra couple of mill.. buy a yacht, but they aren't gonna win a cup with $14M cap hits. The whole notion is laughable at best.

If they dont want to sign below our captain, then trade them..

There's a difference: Slaf's deal starts when he is 21, ends when he is 29. An 8 year deal for Lane would end when he's 31, worst positioning to end his career. Lane would be more like Guhle, trying to limit his deal to end at 29 is 6 years or 28 at 5 years.

And... there's always the good ole bridge, ends around 25-26, then +8 = resigning at around 33-34.

I may joke about it, but it makes some sense in this case ;)

I agree with this but at the same time he's been in the nhl for 3 years already. I think the big mistake was to sign him right away after his draft. Shouldn't have started in the NHL
Slaf was playing quite well last season, it's not like it's his sophomore season. I think the slump is due to nagging back injury / maturity issues (got that big paycheck, maybe less motivation or stress that he has to make good on that contract, I know he is very hard on himself). In that sense I'm not worried as he'll get mentally stronger.

I don't know about this. You have to take into account inflation and salary cap increase. If he signs for the same percent Suzuki signed for at the time but given the new cap increase, would you still say that he's being greedy?

I think that this "max number business" is dumb, instead you should look at it as percentage of salary cap.

Slaf last season looked like Galchenyuk when they had no pressure hockey. I don't mean they are the same but right now Slaf can't handle to play with high expectations. He's so nervous on the ice and for a big guy like him he plays smaller than Hutson. I find it really infuriating that he plays so soft. Young or not he's been in the league for 3 years now

Or, he's 20 and still figuring things out...

I want the 8 year deal at Slaf range. But we don't know what his agent is thinking. If I am him, I want to hit UFA asap. Not to walk per se but to retain some leverage. He will be 21 in February and 22 at the end of his current ELC.

If I was him and his agent, I would go for a 5 year deal at 8 million dollars. Then at 27 go for the 8 year deal at that time when the Cap is high and he can pull in something incredibly stupid.

Maybe he values security though and will take the 8 year after his ELC, bringing him to 30 and then another 8 year deal to end his career. At 30 though, teams might not spend as much on an 8 year deal. It is almost a garuantee at 27.

I'm expecting a long term deal in the 8.5-9 million range. He's putting up one of the most impressive rookie seasons of any defenseman ever. The guy's gonna be a stud and quarterbacking our powerplay for the next decade ideally. I'd have no problem having him making more than Suzuki.

Gotta get it done ASAP and hoping around Suzuki's number. That would mean that he's bought into the internal cap structure of course becase I know he can get more, it's still a massive amount of money and would be UFA under 30.
