McLeod gets the hat trick on an awarded goal with Carolina’s net empty.

The Sabres have 0 shots this period.

That's quite the trick, literally.

Man have I never seen a team so dominated in the 3rd, as buffalo was. Carolina was literally in buffalo zone for like a massive portion of that period.

Is Ruff trying to troll everyone?

The was a 20 minute penalty kill. No attempted breakouts or trying to possess the puck. Just chipping and chasing.

Anyways, back solely in 2nd on points percentage.

Can't believe elite cup contender Carolina is down to Buffalo
I totally can with their Humpty Dumpty 35 year old EBUG that they played tonight.

The real gift was Carolina throwing Tokarski out there. All 3 goals on him were horrible and any of them could have been softy of the night. Well, the second goal wasn’t horrible, but definitely stoppable at best.

Tokarski literally looked like some beer leaguer they had to throw in because they had no one to play goal tonight. You couldn’t tell that it wasn’t actually a 48 year old Zamboni driver. Everything about him out there just looked bush league. From his stance to his equipment.

Another humpty goalie we couldn’t break the two goal barrier on.

At least we didn’t get shutout by him like Vancouver did.

I’m still terribly confused as to why this doesn’t count as a shot on goal for the team that scored. Just because it’s an own goal?

This is another new, weird change that the NHL is doing this season, just like how they’re no longer acknowledging it as a goal against a goaltender when it’s an own goal off his own teammate and it’s now being considered the same way empty net goals are.

There was no shot: Tage hit the post and McLeod had his stick smashed in half before his stick even touched the puck (which is why they couldn't figure out who to credit with the goal).

But in the past they would just give the guy credited with the goal the shot on goal. Even if it was the goalie or the guy was hauled down and they awarded him the auto empty net goal without him even getting the puck into the net!

Seems like most top teams (save WAS) are in a malaise which is helpful. I expect the team to be back to business once they have their strength back from being sick and make some TDL moves. It’s a loooooong season.

Re: Nemec, I think it would be monumentally shortsighted to preference 28 year old Kova (despite how much I love and appreciate him) over Nemec, now seeing Nemec healthy…unless there’s an equal swap available in the offseason for a forward.

Don’t they play different styles? If you promote Nemec it’s easy to let Koby walk but do you pair Nemec with Dillon and put Siegs with Hamilton?

They do play different styles but I’m banking on the offensive upside of Simon (which is sorely needed outside of Luke, especially as Dougie declines) vs hoping that Siegs/Kova replicate their results next year

Siegs-Hamilton has worked very well in the past. That would be my preference if Kovy walks for Nemec. I don't love Dillon-Nemec, truthfully, but I think that pairing would be given lighter duty, at least to start, with Luke+Pesce taking a heavier one.

If we'd rather swap Nemec in for Kovy directly, I also think that might show promise, Siegs could be steadying for Nemec, who even at his absolute best, plays an, uh, aggressive style.
