I think the idea is, if people are vaccinated, they can only get a mutation that is vaccine resistant. So the vaccine resistant variant has a whole pool of people to itself where it doesn't have to compete with Alpha/Beta/Gamma or whatever.

But overall, it's silly, because the alternative is we never bother with vaccinations and everyone gets some version of covid. Maybe the vaccine resistant one isn't dominant, but if nobody is vaccinated, that's kind of irrelevant.

I guess, maybe hypothetically, if healthy low risk people didn't get vaccinated, it would shrink the pool that allows the vaccine resistant variant to gain a foothold, which could help at risk vaccinated people stay a bit safer. But it seems like it's high enough risk for everyone that just having 80% of the population getting the virus no defense would cause more damage.

That is only true as long as the virus doesn't evolve into something more dangerous AND vaccine resistant, right? If it does that we are well and truly f***ed. Just like how MRSA is really bad news.

That's possible. As I showed above though, the Delta variant, which is more vaccine resistant and more dangerous, came about before vaccines were even being used. So doing nothing may not be the best course of action either.

You stated "scientists are already questioning if the vaccine deployment forced mutation earlier than it would have normally done so with no vaccine."

Do you agree, after the data I showed, that all the mutations to date weren't "forced" by vaccines, since they were detected before vaccines were even available?

I think what 'forced' means, is that it allows mutations to gain traction, rather than come in to existence. But Delta was special because it was super contagious to begin with. That was going to take over vaccines or no vaccines. It didn't need help.

I’m not so sure. I’ve seen this statement elsewhere and the gist of it was that the vaccine drove the mutation itself. Even his statement was “forced mutation earlier” which isn’t talking about gaining traction. Not a big deal though. That said, I haven’t read any scientific studies on it.

Agree. And that’s the only one that gained significant traction post vaccination

Yeah, I don't know what I'm talking about. I just enjoy guessing :)

It appears to me that regardless of vaccination status, pretty much everyone will get some version of covid.

First, my further condolences, Robo. This has been a shit sandwich of a week for you but as so many have said here, we're all here for you. Given your request as to *how* to support you...

Since the conversation has shifted to cooking and farm animals, I had the Bojangles Chicken Sandwich last night. Y'all. It's the real deal. It blows Popeye's out of the water since the breading is spicy and it doesn't rely on a spicy mayo to make it spicy. It's easily now my go-to chicken sammich.

This is good news, because everything else at Bojangles has been going to shit. The pandemic has not been kind to them.

Yeah I've noticed that. The Supremes have gotten tiny (which at least they're making up for by giving you more fries) and last night the drinks were in a no-brand styrofoam cup instead of their usual branded stuff. Offhand I can't think of another chain that's been as hard-hit.

citation needed on "scientists are already questioning if the vaccine deployment forced mutation earlier than it would have normally done so with no vaccine"

that's not how random mutation works, and any vague collection of scientists claiming the vaccine would cause "forced" mutation should hand in their science guns and badges
i wonder if "scientists" in this case actually tracks back to luc montagnier. he has made statements about antibody dependent enhancement (which the data says he is wrong about). there is another bullshit quote about everybody vaccinated dropping dead soon, that he didn't say, fwiw.

dude won a nobel prize for his role in identifying hiv and then started publishing non peer reviewed homeopathy enabling bullshit in a journal that he basically ran. that nobel prize carries a ton of weight, so plenty of people take the enhancement thing seriously not knowing he's sadly gone water memory quack.
