I’m in the interview process for a place that does 9 hour days M-Th, and then a half day on Friday. Always wanted a job that did 4 10s though.
HAHAHA! Was Officially 4 9's + Half Fridays but it was always ten's and Half day Friday. Which rarely happened so Full Friday and often half to full Saturdays..

Honestly since I was just out of High school it was great paying I was an idiot then..
and if someone was out for the morning shift they had no issues with me working 12hr. Obviously they weren't adverse to OT. just to Double time.

Alas it's not on board one of their ships with an ice rink so no pick-up hockey games featuring @DaveG and @tarheelhockey and his kids, but that is both awesome and exhausting. There's a couple stretches in the European leg where there's 18 days of ports in a row (granted some with overnight stays in a port) but still...that's a lot.

Starting at $60,000 per person for an interior state room (no view). I’m out.

Yeah, Boom Boom, but that does include a drink package, laundry 3x/week, and their best internet package. Plus meals at all the complementary dining venues. If I had the money it would really be a way to see the world, literally.

It would be cool, but Let’s just say that for $120K, I can come up with a lot of cool things to do. It’s a great idea though.

Worked 12s in a factory once every month you would change 7a-7p them 7p-7a. I was young early 20's couldn't do that anymore
I have a buddy that does that now. With OT he makes over 100k so he doesn’t complain too much. Plus he gets a 3 day weekend every other weekend

I manage a team of 12 hour workers, used to be on the team myself. We would get days off during the week and work every other weekend which IMO is huge in this area as the week is when you want do things considering traffic, crowds etc. In addition by taking 2 12 hour days off you basically got an entire week off if you planned it on your 3 day week. Also, the way we did our holidays they basically got a 12 hour holiday instead of the normal 8 which adds up to a few extra holidays on the year (in hour terms). Lastly before we went remote 3 and 4 days in a week driving instead of 5 each week.

The best part is the following 500 REPLY ALL emails saying DON'T REPLY ALL. Or when, early on, someone says "this email was sent in error, please ignore"...and then you get "please remove me from this email" for the next hour! We actually had IT SHUT DOWN an email chain because people kept carrying on for like 2 hrs, 500+ replies, the whole server was bogging down *smh* :damnpc::damnpc:

What 's the difference?

edit: oh, 100 percent more. We get that for daily overtime (overtime done on top of 8 regular hours) after two hours at 50 %, except saturdays are straight 100 %. Weekly overtime (working on day off) pays at 50 %.

Anyone else one of those "ambitious" people who just works a ton of hours outside of the scheduled 9-5 grind?

Not now but used to work a full time 7:30/6pm 5 day , on call 24/7 7 days and owned a landscape company. Did that for about 10 years

I've finangled my schedule so my pet sitting stuff is 9-4ish, then I work the hockey hours of 5-?

Been doing alright thus far, but my first real tests will be this Saturday (two hockey games worked means a 11am-11pm day) and next Thursday (working LA game means I don't get home until 2am...if it doesn't go to OT).

Used to. Would not recommend. Greatest thing is finding a manager that recognizes that and demands you take hours back. Back in the day, I'd have an entire night of oncall coverage then be expected to attend all the meetings where the PMs show how hard they work.

My life choices are centered on the fact that I go home after my 8 hours are up and won't do one single unpaid hour.

For money I will obviously harlot myself out for 16-hour days.

All of my "unpaid" hours I put in now (technically salaried so I guess anything over 40 is "unpaid") will 100% more than be paid for in the future. Majority of compensation in my position is non-salary. Tough to balance how much to work sometimes as there could be weeks I put in 60+ but maybe could still wind up making the same $ working only 50 those weeks, but if things play out the way I hope/expect it'll all have been worth it. Helps that I do enjoy what I do.

We had a "reply all" debacle once on the Army email system called AKO several years back- got sent to like tens of thousands of people, and it took weeks of "Please stop hitting reply all!!" and "Remove me from this email chain!" and some other really choice meltdowns before it finally stopped. It took literally hours for me to delete page after page of emails from it when it was all over. LOL.
