They sent me out on a recon today
How does it work out in practical terms when military guys set out on an ad hoc voluntary mission like this? I would assume everyone more or less is in the same opinion that some sort of command structure is the most efficient way to get things done and people where they need to be.

So they have a tactical operations center set up in the hangar. They have a morning brief everyday, and then start sending out flights for resupply and medical missions. Other folks are sent out to recon or chainsaw missions via ground. They track everything on google earth, you put your contact info on a piece of paper and put it in the "Out" box and then put it back in the "In" box when you come back. If at the end of the day anything is in the "Out" box they come looking for you.

You then write down the particulars in a logbook from what you saw/accomplished. All highly organized and run like an actual military mission. White boards, computers, satcom the whole nine yards. And piles of Zyn cans 😁

Thanks for not only doing what you are doing, but also for giving us insight into things. I really appreciate it. My son graduated from UNC Asheville so we've spent a lot of time in that areas and have friends who live there and in the surrounding areas. I've heard from all but 1 that they are safe, but the one I didn't hear from never communicates much in the first place. The pictures, videos and what they've shared with me is unimaginable (as you stated earlier).

Canucks fan here, but I had to come to the Hurricanes boards to ask this question,

Can someone please share some of their favourite sandwich recipes ?
a specialty from when I worked at the Deli at a local grocery store... and technically not a sandwich:

1/4lb cracked pepper turkey breast
1/8lb Monterey jack
romaine
a bit of salsa
tortilla shell (especially if you can get something flavored like sundried tomato-basil)

and you've got a hell of a wrap

Two of my favorites right now:

1) Pesto and Tomato Panini: Ciabatta bread, spread homemade pesto on each side, add some Tomato Garlic oil (I use Cheeky Monkey out of Syracuse), thinly sliced Roma Tomatoes, and real Mozzarella cheese and then press it in a panini press.

2) A true Cuban - Cuban Bread, Mustard, Pickles, Swiss Cheese, Ham, Roasted Pork, and Butter. I've seen some places also add Salami, but I prefer it without.

I'm not a huge Rueben fan, but the one I had at Zingerman's deli in Ann Arbor was incredible. I've tried a few times to replicate it but I can't quite get there. It must be either their own dressing or the way they do the Kraut, but who knows.

When I was younger, my mother and grandmother used to make homemade Porchetta sandwiches. Those were incredible. Unfortunately, I don't have her recipe, which was passed down from her mother. I've tried a few recipes online, but it's not the same. Plus, my wife doesn't eat beef or pork so it would be too much for 1 person.

Dont know where to find cuban bread in Danville but there is a small Cuban deli/restaurant in Reidsville that has fantastic Cubano's.

Speaking of the local area. My youngest (15) started watching Bojack Horseman which is a little weird for me, however she was watching this morning and I heard the following dialog "Where are you at?, Eden NC." Also mention later in the show "The greater Greensboro, High point, Triad, metropolitan area" and finally "we need to go the the Danville Target"

Thought that was kind weird so I did some research. Amy Sedaris lived in Raleigh from the age of 4 and voices on of the characters and one of the writers is from Eden.

She had her own show on TruTV like 5 years ago. I didn't think anything about it except my mom was watching the network when her ad comes on and says something like "God that name sounds familiar". Turns out they both attended Sanderson High school.

The brother (David) has some amusing stories about growing up in Raleigh in the 70s vs what it is now.

The Rooster is still around town - which makes sense, since you can't kill the Rooster.

I've seen that place in Reidsville but never tried it so I'll have to give it a try next time. I had a lake house on Hyco Lake for about 10 years and my next door neighbor at the lake is the owner Short Sugar's BBQ , so I'll usually hit up that place if I'm in town.

The last time I ate at the one in Reidsville it was a little off, maybe they had a bad day. I always liked the one I Danville better, before they closed it.

I'm torn about the reason for this change. Is it:

Elon couldn't handle being one of the most blocked users on the platform?

Or

Elon realized most users block the accounts that produce the ads?

Googling "Zyn cans", laughing myself silly to the online vendor "Snusdaddy.com".
So I didn't see a single plastic bottle filled with tobacco spit the entire time I was there. Which is outrageous, quite frankly. Literally everyone has switched over to Zyn in the past couple years, which is why it is hard to find sometimes.

Appreciate the support. I've gone there pretty much every year for the last 20 to snowboard, and take my kids camping up there as well. Never really traveled though or saw the areas I did over the past 2 weeks the entire time. These impoverished areas just hidden in the shadows of mountains merely a few miles away from the glitzy resorts. Glad I was able to help those folks and now I have a network of friends when I retire and move up there when it is finally time to say goodbye to Raleigh.

I'm confused.

All this says is that if you have someone blocked, they can still read your public content, they just can't engage with them.

I havent seen anything that says if you block someone they'll still be forced in you. So I think it should still be fine for the vast majority? (Though in stalker situations super not good, but it's not like Elon cares that much about them)

It's how this starts. I believe a full removal of the block feature would have prevented Twitter from being placed on the App Store and Google Play, so they're starting with the "Oh, they're still technically blocked from interacting with you, but they'll be able to see your posts now!"

It's definitely going towards the endgame of preventing Elon and/or his advertisers from being blocked.

And that is the moment that people abandon it en masse.

I mean, this is a nothing burger. If your tweets are public and you block someone, that person can simply open an incognito tab, pull up your Twitter, and read the tweets while not logged in (which means they can’t interact with them). So basically they’re just saying you don’t have to log out to read these tweets anymore, but folks aren’t getting any more or less access than they previously were.

If you want to be a pessimist who hates Musk and say that’s the beginning of a snowball to some other thing, fine. But the change itself seems very minor, unless I’m missing something.

Does it work that way? Now that I no longer have an account, when I search for Walt’s account, I never see the latest tweets. When I click on a link here, or from FB or wherever, I can see the tweet just fine.

I haven’t used an incognito tab to try this so maybe that’s why. I’ll give that a try. I don’t want an account, but do like to see canes stuff.

Ok, I just looked up Walt in an incognito tab without logging in as I don’t have an account. It shows me a tweet from 2023 about Burns and no current content even as I scroll down. When I click on “replies”, it prompts me to log in.

EDIT: But while on the page with Walt's account, if I click on the Canes twitter/x link in his profile, it comes to the Canes twitter/x page and shows current content. Even if I search for the Canes twitter/x account from google and click on it, I see all the current tweets.

EDIT 2: More playing around. If I click on any re-tweet of Walt's on the Canes account, it shows me the tweet, but if I click on Walt's account from the Canes, it goes back to showing me 2023 stuff only on his account. I wonder if it's settings within his account? Not sure.

I searched for Darren Dreger's twitter/x account and clicked on his link from a google search and I get the same thing as with Walt. The only thing that shows up are old tweets.

Weird. But theoretically you could see any of his tweets if you had the link, correct?

I’m playing around with it too, it seems like it’s not just “old” tweets but some algorithm showing you “popular” tweets (everything I’m seeing has above average rts for a guy like Walt), maybe there’s a sort setting. Idk. Point being, you can see any public tweet as long as you have access. But I suppose the experience of still getting them in your feed would be slightly different than today so perhaps it is a small change (albeit, not one that gives you any “more” access than before).

If someone’s tweets are public, and you really want to see them even if you’re blocked, you can see them. Heck, if you care enough about it you could create a burner and go bug them again. Maybe this prevents that. Idk, still doesn’t bother me that much as a change.
