I'm closer to 30 and I found that the other day after seeing Pearl Jam lol. Idk how I did it in my early 20s
Yeah didn't even take concerts for me, just working as a brewer in my 30s and watching a hockey game after enjoying a few while making a batch would take it out of me. Now that I'm in my mid 40s I flat out know I can't do that stuff anymore.

Your 20's are your "Prove it, man" era for most of us. Your 30's are your, "Oh shit, I have to be a responsible adult some of the time" era. Your 40's are your, "They will learn the hard way" era.

Everyone who sits around me at work is like 25-30. Their conversations are pretty typical for that age… weddings, house hunting, going out on the weekends, etc.

Part of me wishes we could go out more on the weekends, then the other part remembers our kids are waking up by 7 and will be hungry regardless of how hungover we are.

I’m 38 now, but it feels like that time in my life wasn’t more than a year or two ago. Don’t know where the time is going, but I wish it would slow the f*** down.

Backpacked all those plus Arches and of course the Grand Canyon (5 times) over a 3 year period when I was footloose and young. Loved the slickrock.
Nice. After I get off work this next shift I’m headed to the Tetons for about 9 days. Love it there, probably backpacking there and maybe the Wind River range too.

Had covid last week. Chills and fever for maybe 36 hours, just stayed in bed. After that, cold symptoms and a bit tired for a few days. All in all, not too bad, but inconvenient.

I was going to get another covid vaccine before going back to school teaching the kids but decided to wait a couple weeks for the new formulation; I should have just gotten the old one since I knew covid was running through our area and even older versions offer some protection.

On a trip out west when I was 12yo my father and 13yo brother and I hiked to the bottom of the GC and back up in less than a day. We left at maybe 5pm and hiked down the Bright Angel trail, slept for a couple hours, got up at 1am, and hiked back up the S. Kaibab trail. We had 6 quarts of water between us; not a problem going down since that trail has water stations. Definitely an issue going back up since that trail doesn't. We ended up mooching a drink from a couple hikers on the way down after we finished our water.

Looking back, not the smartest thing to do and potentially dangerous. Fortunately we were in great shape and made it without any real problem.

My mother and step father used to participate in a hiking club that would do a rim to rim hike something similar to that every year. They even had a couple of members that ran the rim to rim hike.

Crazies.

My son and daughter-in-law were able to tackle Angel's Landing (nervously) this trip. My treks were tame as I had the parents with me. Some of the Insta poses alone that I saw on the edges made me anxious. There were so many jaw dropping sights across the entire region. We had some yummy dining at Bright Angel and over in Springdale outside of Zion.

Did 2 6 night trips along Tonto platform and down to river here and there east and west of Bright Angel. Amongst 3 other shorter stays. Fastest time from river to S rim was 6:15.

On one trip I went to a waterfall north of Phantom Ranch where you could soak. Had a UNC t-shirt on. 2 guys were there and went 'Wow. UNC. Great lacrosse school'. I'm like lacrosse? They were current Stanford lacrosse players. Enjoyed some beers with them that night. 1979 I believe.

Well underway here..stay safe and dry. We've already had to have some rescues.

10"-15" in the mountains? Geez. That's gonna do some spectacular things to those high incline streams and rivers. I used to fish Basin Creek with my dad a lot, where there was a ~50 household small town until it got entirely wiped off the map from hurricane flooding in 1916, so... be careful y'all.

I've done Angel's Landing 3 times, once at dusk when I was almost jogging up the last ridge where the chains are in order to beat the dark. Another pretty dumb thing I've done in my life.

If anyone wants more of a thrill than Angel's Landing, try the Hidden Canyon trail. Like A L it has portions with chains and a path that's just a few feet wide. The difference is that the H C trail curves around like going up the inside of a bowl and in several places you can see straight down a shear 900 foot drop that will kill you. At A L in the places where they have chains there is a bit of a slope between the trail and the shear 900 foot drop, so you can't see straight down and therefore it's not nearly as intimidating (at least it wasn't to me). Can't beat the views from A L, though.

And all of that water flows downstream....gonna be some flooding across the state....feels very "Floyd-like".
