How to get the WCOH to appeal to you?

You came into a thread for people who aren't interested in the WCOH and then whine about the whiners who aren't interested?

Also, if large groups of people "whine" about the same thing maybe you should stop and ask yourself "are these people whining, or this a legitimate problem?"

International hockey sucks balls.

The problem is there's only 6 countries that give two craps about hockey.

The NA team is 10X more entertaining than watching Belaurs getting their ***** handed to them. Watching a crap european team trap for their lives is everything boring about this game.

It's been the same for 30 years. Nothing is going to change. Having Slovakia in the tournament isn't going to drive little slovakian boys to play hockey. This grow the game stuff is a load of horse crap.

Yeah what could be more exciting than watching an up-and-coming star take on his own country? I'll be he's always dreamed of the opportunity.

Switzerland used to cough up eight or nine goals a game vs the top six.

Finland was getting shelled by scores of 11-2, 8-0, 11-3 at the first Canada Cup and didn't become competitive until 1991.

But if we're going to give up on growing the game then stage a World Cup with just six teams.

Sweden had a brief lull in developing players and Finland went MIA for a bit there but I am really hoping the Czechs and Slovaks can get back to developing NHL caliber players. Germany, Denmark, Belarus and the Swiss are getting better, same with Latvia.

This is just entirely wrong. I mean I get it if you don't like international hockey that's fine. I don't like club hockey and there's an easy solution to that. I don't watch it.

I'm sure they'd be plenty happy to have come in and show up the greatest hockey team in the world.
 
Honestly, it does appeal to me. The only thing that would make me embrace it more wholly would be if they gave up the ridiculous notion of it replacing the Olympics. Just say it's an NHL alternate for the off years and it's for fun and some early access to interesting player combos you'd never see otherwise.
 
Hockey will still be at the Olympics. It just won't have NHL players. You can still cheer for your country though, since that's all that matters to some people. There's also the World Championships and World Juniors.

I want to see the best hockey players from each country play for medals they really care about
 
Looking back at previous World Cup clips, the players were really into it. Every time you ask players to represent their country they will play hard. Fans were in it too.

How to make it appeal to everyone? The NHL and IIHF should come together and make something together. The world championships are every year and most of the time (not including lockout years) the best players are not in it because of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The WHC is just not a best on best regardless of how European fans view that tournament.

The Olympics are truly the only current best on best tournament (before the comeback of the World Cup) but the NHL and IIHF get zero money out of it and I can understand why the NHL would want to back out considering they have to interrupt their season 2 weeks every 4 years with no real tangible benefits.

My idea? Have the NHL and IIHF organize a true best on best tournament together every 2 to 4 years with 1 host city alternating continents every tournament. Have the top 6 teams qualify automatically and have a qualifying tournament a week before the tournament with the next top 4 teams (7 through 10) with 2 games (7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9). The winners moving on to the tournament. Make it a huge event and share the profits.
 
Should just get rid of all international tournaments. The less we have, the less there will be to complain about.

To be honest I am really curious about games of this tourney, I already watched all of them. On the other hand there are already four threads here discussing about how to mix national teams, such a nonse. Sure there were complains about big ice and boring game in Sochi but till I remember no other tourney ever brought such a controversy as this tourney. I will cheer for my team, enjoy all the matches but honestly I wish it finishes because this is the most bizzare thing ever and what is going around it is just too much. If HF forum is legitimate sample of hockey fans all over the world they should never bring something like this again.

The Olympic tournaments 1998 and on were best on best. The previous World Cups were best on best. Teams were free to take any of their best players they wanted. Not so in this tournament, when two teams cannot take their best and two teams are randomly created gimmicks.

Good lord you've been at this forever just don't watch the freaking games . Some of us like better hockey some of us like true best on best / international tourneys that exactly suite your definition

wait until the nhl passes on the Olympics before you get so upset at this tourney that doesn't effect you.

Otherwise watch and enjoy and stop complaining or boycott it and also go away.

Haven't seen any of it to this point, not planning to at the moment. That has nothing to do with what I said though. Enjoy the tournament if that is what you want, no real issue there.

No, I think I will continue posting. I won't be posting on the quality of games that I haven't watched, but when the tournament is mislabelled I probably will comment.
