I'm not gonna jump on Staios about this, but it's getting obvious what needs to be done. Put the poor guy out of his misery if anything.

Yeah attendance is just to cover operating costs... this is not what is attractive for franchise owners. Look how much Melnyk (estate) made with the sale

Plus the development you're talking about... great investment. I came a few millions short

Cash flow still matters. This is the most expensive Senators team ever iced, and with the cap increasing, the pressure to spend will continue to increase.

Andlauer isn't wealthy enough to cover the team's losses while waiting to recoup his investment when he eventually sells the team in 15, 20 or 25 years.

And I doubt that the large group of partners he's taken on will be excited about cash calls to cover any year to year losses.

He needs to sell tickets. He needs to rebuild the brand.

This has been a disastrous start. Not his fault, certainly, but he does need to act quickly, IMO.

What exactly would be the right time then? It's not like they benefit from tanking this year.
The right time is when they think they've selected the right coach candidate, whether that precedes or follows the hiring of the right GM candidate. I mean, we should believe what Andlauer said about running the organization the right way, taking time to evaluate. We'll see if the losing record, possible attendance impact, and player development and FA attitudes light a fire under him or not.

If the players are responding to DJ and getting shit results, then the problem is the coach and his game plans.

Maybe a healthy Chabot and Greig provide DJ with the final rope, as the injury excuses dissipate. I would make the changes immediately, but I also understand management taking their time to evaluate the issue and look at options that are not short sighted.

Today's the day after a 5-0 loss at home, where we are under .500 almost a quarter way through the season, and DJ Smith is still our coach.

This is literally unbelievable.

Seriously wtf?!?

It makes no sense. To win you’re going to need to overcome adversity. This coach will never win.

Get someone else in there at the very least to see which players are smart enough to get their act together and start playing better. We need to know who to ship out this summer.

Man at least get Jacques Martin in on the interim basis for the rest of the season. Once the new GM is hired then he can make that coaching decision during the summer when more candidates are available.

Worst case scenario, Jacques ensures the players develop defensive habits for the remainder of the season, laying the groundwork for the next coach and upcoming season.

Where's Count to let us know we are alright if you only look at point %
Ya, steady as she goes, everything is just fine. We just need to leap frog almost the entire Eastern Conference. There must be some expected stat that shows us there's nothing to worry about as well.

94% in favour of moving on.

Doesn’t mean much but it has to be eye opening for Staios no?

I think everybody knows.

The issue is making sure that whatever happens next is part of a plan rather than simply reactionary.

The mess Melnyk and Dorion left is massive. It cannot be quickly cleaned up unfortunately.

Who replaces DJ? Would they be interim? What about the incoming GM? There are too many moving pieces for there to be much confidence.

He'll get his money from the real estate/new arena, not fan attendance.
he has probably borrowed 400-450 M.. that means ~ 30 M a year in payments

The Eugene was losing a cool 20 M a year from 2018-2022.. No playoffs, low attendance

Do you think old Michael wants to endure 50 M a year in payments?

Turn the ship around, or Michael A will morph into Eugene.. and goodbye salary, goodbye operating expenses.

Melnyk was out of cash because be was a conman first, businessman dead last.

Andlaeur seems like a real businessman so I'm not worried about his approach to funding the Senators yet. Obviously bad attendance is a concern but I'm in no rush to worry about cashflow again.

This team should have already had a contingency plan in place, it's not news that DJ was on a short leash coming into the year.

And, if we was not, that's on the former and new management team.

I really hope this does not drag on but it very well could. Embarrassing

I wouldn't let DJ step one foot into the dressing room, on the ice, or in front of a mic. He is done, fire him - letting this linger is bad for everyone involved.

Andlauer isn't Melnyk but carrying a negative cash flow asset year after year is going to be difficult for anyone that isn't obscenely wealthy.

It's a tough pill to pour tens of millions into a deal year after year with the hope of a big exit decades down the line. That money is worth a hell of a lot more today.
