Andlauer isn't Melnyk but carrying a negative cash flow asset year after year is going to be difficult for anyone that isn't obscenely wealthy.

It's a tough pill to pour tens of millions into a deal year after year with the hope of a big exit decades down the line. That money is worth a hell of a lot more today.
I usually scoff at people telling rich people to dump truckloads of cash on a business that is losing money so I get you.

I'm just saying that Andlaeur seems more organized and serious. Melnyk was a fraud. I am confident Andlaeur will be able to navigate the rough waters whereas we know Melnyk cried poor at the first sign of trouble (because he was a fraud).

If we lose next game he should 100% be fired

8-10 at this point would be a big enough hole to justify shaking things up imo

He should be canned now. There's no more rope left. At all. The wheels have fully come off the bus at this point and keeping him around is akin to setting the whole thing on fire.

I have to say as much as I expected Smith to justifiably be gone many times before, him still being the coach today feels like a joke the org is playing on the fanbase.

My biggest fear is that they wait until the off-season to can him, then next season ends up being another lost season as the team tries to adjust to the new system and get the losing stench away from the locker room. It certainly appears to be heading that way considering a couple of other coaches have already been let go, but here we are still stuck with Smith.

Marek speculating about John Gruden from the Marlies as he has worked with Andlauer and Staios.

Won a championship with the Bulldogs 6 years ago.

5 seasons as NHL assitant coach (4 with Isles, 1 with Boston).

People need to get it though their heads that Staios, and Andlauer did/do not expect anything from the Sens this season. This team is Dorion's. I highly, highly doubt that their position in the league is surprising to them. It's not that surprising to me.

They were pumping the breaks as soon as they got here. All we heard is that we have lots of work to do, there were still lots of moves and additions that need to be made.

It sucks, because the prior management team and ownership proclaimed this was a team that was destined for greatness, and playoff bound "this year" (or next, or the year after....) for the better part of 4 years.

This is not a very good team. It needs a serious revamp, and will likely get that this summer when a new GM comes into town.

We lost a year essentially by the sale being pushed until September. We couldn't get new managemtn in, and we had Dorion running things. Does our new GM see things the same way Dorion did? Very, very doubtful.

I'd look at this years draft as a very large turning point. I think we see some movement of guys we are surprised and upset to see moved, and see us poach 3/4 members of management, coaching and scouting teams around the league.

Lol no. We lost a year because they decided to keep DJ around for one more season when it was already clear he was the wrong guy for the job years ago.

This might not be a playoff contender, but it sure as shit is better than what we're seeing now and they could have made the playoffs playing solid structured hockey. The idea that Andlauer is fine with wasting another season because he didn't have time to make additional moves is ridiculous.

Beyond frustrated with this team and I’ve reached the point where I’m losing interest.

This guy still being the coach is complete insanity.

Did Elliot mention anything?

He didn't have a show with him today. Maybe we get something from TSN on their Insider Segment tonight.

Should be fired weeks ago. If it wasnt done yet its not happening.

That is such a bad hire for where this team is currently at. They need someone with NHL head coaching experience.

Bringing in another coach with no NHL experience because he succeeded with the owner in junior would be a Melnyk-esque move. Not great.

I'll give Andlauer the benefit of the doubt on Staios, but the plan should not be getting the gang from the Hamilton Bulldogs back together. That's a recipe for disaster. The OHL is not the NHL.

Senators head coach D.J. Smith agreed post-game with the notion his team showed a lack of maturity in the loss.

“Yeah, yeah, that’s fair,” Smith said. “You know, I just thought at 3-0 we came up with some really good shifts. We were aggressive. We were, you know, in the game, lots of game left and then we take a five-minute major and that takes you right out of the game…”

“As the head coach you realize you're throwing away an opportunity,” he added. “You have to just keep playing. And, you know, I don't know what went on between periods. We came out, I thought ready, and then you know, that final whatever it was, after we took the five-minute major you don't give yourself a chance to win and you can't play like that in the NHL.”

There’s an awful lot wrong if he thought the team was, at ANY point, ‘IN’ this game. Then to mention that he doesn’t know what went on between periods… this has gone on long enough.
Our players need a coaching change… yesterday.

They were in the game until the offside goal, that resulted in another PP goal, Korpi was giving the team a chance, up until then.
After that it was over.

Where's Count to let us know we are alright if you only look at point % and are(were) actually 19th in the league!!!!

I know it’s hard for some people to wrap their heads around Points Percentage, and how it truly measures a teams’ record, to date, in relationship to the rest of the league.

example…. Ottawa has fewer points (16) than some teams in the league, like the Ducks and Jackets with 18, but still have a better record aka P%.

Don’t worry, someday these people will catch on.

Ya, steady as she goes, everything is just fine. We just need to leap frog almost the entire Eastern Conference. There must be some expected stat that shows us there's nothing to worry about as well.
How soon people forget…. It was around this time last year, that I started posting that not only was Ottawa out of a playoff spot ( at this time last year) but also posted that it was highly unlikely they would be able to up their game, for the remainder of the season, and claw their way back into a playoff spot, and hold on to it, and make the playoffs.

A lot of people said I didn’t know what I was talking about, and were saying there is a lot of runway left in the season…. They just could not understand P% and we’re focusing on how many points the Sens were behind the last wild card spot…. without taking into account the teams between the Sens and the last wild card spot.

I would post links and pictures to support my opinion, but of course they were dismissed as wacko websites or whatever…. Math is not my forte, but it not a lot of others either.

today, after only 17 games played, Ottawa is sitting with about a 35% chance of making the playoffs….and even though I would wait until at least 20 to 25 games have been played, before being bullish on the playoff chances…. Looking at the schedule for the next two months…am not really feeling too good about their chance even now.

As it happens, last year around this time, Iwas correct, and the Sens fell just short of the playoffs.

of course those who debated that point, won’t admit to remembering the pages of debate….but we all know it though.

Yeah, it was such a reliable use of the “strange concept of %’s” (a literal grade school application ) that a single loss dropped them to 27th!

DJ Smith: "It's never as bad as you think, but it's never as good as you think either."

1st question of the interview, from Garrioch (for all the G-haters out there): "Do you feel like last night was rock bottom?"

DJ says he likes us at 8-9. He saw his group "emotionally" stick together, "This is a team that cares and if you care then you have a chance to win every night."

2nd question: "How appreciative are you that management didn't fire you after a loss like last night?" DJ: "We're not happy with where we're at..., we have to get better, and you have to put it on me, there is no one to blame here but me."

DJ: "This game is a 7 day league, and perspective changes every week."

DJ: "You have to live in the now and fix what's broken, and I have become very good over the years at staying in the moment"

In conclusion he continued to repeat himself that his team always comes prepared and gives themselves a chance to win each night.
