I love the discipline Hamonic can show when it comes to toughness, he doesn't take stupid penalties but he's either too slow with the puck or too reactionary.

Green needs to stop playing him when we have a more viable option in Matinpalo.

You don’t know what is best for the team.

That’s why Green gets the big bucks.
I think this is true but also doesn’t consider that Green is also capable of making mistakes. It’s not as though everyone gets it right all the time. It’s a boring analysis to pretend people are always right because it’s their job.

He obviously understands the game 100x better than we do, and he’s said there are intangibles Hamonic brings we don’t see. He’s also our toughest defenseman. But I don’t think that means we have to ignore what our eyes tell us or what the analytics say - he produces no offense and he is prone to making his partners worse. I disagree with Green on this, doesn’t mean I’m right.

And DJ Smith said Zaitsev was an elite defender, then we had to give up a 2nd to trade him, and after a stint on the worst team in the league he is no longer in the NHL.

Probably not a one man decision here. Buck stops with Green though. Zaitsev was all DJ from day 1.

Batherson makes 3.25 less than Tkachuk and has the same amount of points while being better defensively.

Green has shown a willingness to make lineup changes when needed, and change lines in game. Hopefully he makes the call to swap Hamonic out for Matinpalo.

Matinpalo is bigger, faster, makes more controlled plays with the puck.

Maybe someone has covered it, and I don't know enough to be critical of him, but who was Hamonic waving to to cover the wing on the third goal? Was he telling Ullmark he was on his own with that guy? Was it his imaginary friend from childhood? Just seemed weird since there was no one else over there to take the guy.

I think he thought Stutzle could catch the Tampa player entering on the left
Ends up it didn't matter and I thought that was the lone goal Linus could have save
At the same time Kleven and Hamonik backed way to deep in the zone and it was a great shot from Hagel from the circle that deflected on Linus glove

On the 4th goal Stu played it really weird going deep on McDonagh who jut had to go around him to score
2 strange goals to give

He wanted Batherson to cover Guentzel, but Batherson went to Hagel anyways, not that he had any chance catching Guentzel. Batherson really screwed the pooch on that one, had he started back checking earlier when it was clear tbay was starting the rush, we'd have been fine.

2 stupid coaching decisions tonight (well, that we know)

Hamonic + too early empty net

Hopefully both Norris and Pinto are in the lineup on February 22nd. This 2 weeks break happens at the right time.

I called it stupid and it was. They scored the GWG on an empty net.

Teams should never pull their goalie out before there's like 1-2 mins left.

Points points points points

If anyone thinks we lost that game cuz of Hammer then you don't really get hockey.
It's not about blaming him for the loss, it's about icing the most competitive lineup.

Why break up a pair that had been doing so well, and getting better? Why break up their rhythm?

This is a patented coach mistake because they have to deal with the humans in the room and the respect aspect of it all. I would bet Hamonic is a well respected veteran on the team so Green feels compelled to not ruffle any feathers by scratching him for a guy who was never supposed to play NHL games this season.

There will come a point though, and hopefully that point is now, where Green makes that decision and let’s Matinpalo play full time.
