Surely, he's done now. Right? Like this DJ experiment of an experience needs to conclude, we could still salvage this season, odds aren't great, but it's still possible with a strong minded coach who can bring the best out of everyone.

But whoever it is, the next game it can't be DJ

whats scary is that other bad teams are clearly bad because they don't have the talent. but they are still professionals, they still try to play nhl hockey, play as a team.

complete opposite with this team. we are a junior team.

Every team in the league are licking their chops when they play us, it's sad but it's the truth

100%

Why wouldn't any player not want to play against us? It's such an easy night playing Ottawa. Just a very very soft team with no intimidation factor whatsoever. You can do whatever you want to our defense and nothing will happen. NOTHING.

If they played the Sharks next it would be really interesting to see what would happen. SJ has the least amount of talent in the league but they have played hard since the two 10-goal games. Would DJ have this team ready to play hard against a vastly inferior opponent or would they think they could coast to a victory like Vancouver did when they lost two nights ago?

Not watching another game until DJ gets fired, or by some miracle they go on a win streak despite DJ.
It genuinely makes me sad that I find more joy in blowout losses than blowout wins (mind you, we never seem to experience those). There's simply no way that this team makes its way to the next level under Smith, so a 3 or 4 game winning streak is far less beneficial in the long term than a 3 or 4 game losing streak.

It's also extremely frustrating that I've felt this way going all the way back to last season. Enough is enough.

Bro it's so sad. Like it's more entertaining to just make fun of this team than it is to watch it play hockey.

It is time to bite the bullet and fire him so the team can start learning a new system and get the losing culture away from this team.

It's clear that they don't want to hire a new coach because they want the new GM to hire the coach and the new GM is a summer thing.

So how about you tell Jacques to come in as a interim coach for the season and after that he has a cushy job in management.

But I guess the problem is that Jacques is old and probably doesn't want to travel? Cuz he would be perfect. We need a defensive coach.

I think Staios really wants to keep DJ Smith because there's been so much negativity already this season that adding a coach getting fired (that the players like by all accounts) would just be undesirable. Obviously it makes a lot more sense to wait until the season is over and hire a new GM who can choose who he wants for coach. That said, there will be a point, and we might be getting close to that point, where there will be no choice but to make that decision now.

I really think there's a problem with the team right now. It might be mental, but it legitimately looks like there's no chemistry out there. Tkachuk is not controlling the puck as much. Stutzle has been struggling other than that stretch with Joseph and Giroux. Norris looks like he's just not clicking, he's playing like a sniper right now and that's not what we need of him. We need a guy who plays well defensively and that plays with speed and that can create by himself. Batherson is an enigma, outside of Stutzle he's the most gifted player on this team in terms of talent but he's just not been looking like himself since that injury and has been playing horrible defensively overall. Kubalik is straight up doing nothing 99% of the time.

Having Greig on this team actually made a huge difference because we had 3 lines who could play. Going from Greig to Jarventie or whoever has been a massive downgrade. Joseph has probably been our best player overall this season. He's been working noticeably harder than anyone else on this roster and he plays with so much speed. Losing Chabot and Zub for periods of time is something that this team just can't handle. Korpisalo has been very good. Forsberg has been useless.

It's been a very weird start to the season. Most were worried about the goaltending but Korpisalo looks like a solid addition. On the other hand there was a ton of confidence for the defense and it turns out we're extremely bad defensively. Everyone is frustrated, the good vibes from the beginning of the season are gone. The pressure seems like it's getting to the team and it's uncomfortable. The reset is needed in my opinion. I think Staios will have no choice but to fire DJ.

Most level headed take in this thread.

Boys, Boys, Boys

Buffalo; 12 years out and counting.

We are at 6 years out and counting.

We have not suffered nearly enough. We are only half way. Everyone be patient.. We have, as a minimum 6 more years to endure..

And, we cannot be satisfied in just matching them. We need to beat them... They are most likely heading towards 13 years.. So, we have 14 years as our target.

We want to be #1 at something, don't we????? Clearly, it will not be at Cups won, or finals played in, or series won, or series played in, or # of playoff appearances, or games won... This record is in sight, it is attainable... why do we want to screw it up.

This team is far too talented to be playing this way.
Better coaches have been let go for less. Last night was an embarrassment to the franchise and if they are not careful apathy, if it hasn’t already, will start creeping in.

But The negative comes from Losing, and losing is from bad coaching

Nothing they do will stop the Sens crapola train besides winning

I would take Hyman over Batherson any time of the day though
Our D is on paper better but on the ice I'm not sure
Edmonton has more grittier players that crash the net then us
Right now I'm more optimistic that Edmonton will make the playoffs then we are

so right behind the Oilers, in terms of grit.
