I will always disagree with this statement, it’s not the system, it’s the players not playing smart hockey. DJ needs to be held accountable but I think we will see with the next coach a shuffle of our secondary core players is also needed.
The Maple Leafs and their fans are up in arms about secondary scoring and the play of their bottom 11

Edmonton, Calgary, the Sens and MTL are being buried by the poor play of their bottom 11.

It is modern hockey.. sign 8 year @! x dollars to enough players and the rest are League minimum players.

there is little shuffling that can be done. Teams today are top 11 and fall off.

It is putting a strain. Top 3 D are playing 23 minutes and more.. top 6 forwards are playing 17 minutes and more. Chyc, Sanderson and Chabot are near 25 minutes.

Come on you are talking about one of the greatest team in the history of the game now, I'm sure you're not comparing those teams to this mess we have here in Ottawa right?
Absolutely positively not comparing them in the slightest, simply that players liking their coach is not important in the grand scheme of things in the NHL. (I did say that those MTL teams were stacked.)

It's a professional league and your number one job is to win, not get along personally with your coach. Now, if your coach happens to be a future hall of famer, and the players happen like him as well, that's just icing on the cake.

After listening to and reading some Staios interviews, I think DJ might have a bit more time. Like, end-of-November time. They recently brought in Alfredsson who's mentioned for his contributions as a coach mentor as well as the assumed player development role. And Staios talks about not rushing decision-making, taking the time to evaluate, and only hiring (a GM) if the right (GM) candidate is available. Taking that at face value, I think he and Bowness are going to watch the team's push-back over the whole month of November at least. See if injuries clearing and Alfie's input can help DJ right the ship.

Meanwhile the rest of us will continue to shout "shoot the puck!!!"

DJ has all year. It's on the players now. Who bitches and who doesn't. Attitude. This isn't just on the ice. Who stands up in the room? Who challenges teamates to play better? Who stands up to the coach...This isn't working. Help us, help you. Have they had a players only meeting ever?

That’s really dangerous . Season can be lost while just evaluating . There is consistent data to show DJs trends . Poor in pressure games or when games matter (start of season, when dug out of a whole and opp to get into a playoff spot) poor 2nd periods (long changes) , poor on the road. These aren’t player issues this is coaching

Hate to be that guy because Talbot is still having a nice start to the year and was never as bad as some claimed, but...

They didn't normalize for games played or per min, they used a counting stat, so with him having played the most games of any goalie he falls back a fair bit in the ranking when you do, to .53 gsaa per 60 which ranks 17th, meanwhile the top 5 guys are in the 1.2 to 2/60 range.

If anyone is wondering, Korpisalo is at .36/60

Mick, can you edit

At this point, I am fine with making a change for the sake of change.

The Sens are a young team that make a ton of mistakes. A new coach might help tighten things up.. maybe not.

I blame last night's loss on goaltending. On Tampa's 2nd goal, Sanderson makes a bad pinch and Point goes down and tucks it in on Korpisalo's short side. It just looked too easy. Forsberg on Tampa's 4th goal was also atrocious.

I'd like to remind everyone, we are missing three crucial d-men. DJ playing three three AHL D and Hamonic getting top minutes.. Not good.

Fans think they can fix everything by replacing one man. I don't agree but at this point, we could try something new.

If it's not Monday then it'll be after the Sweden trip at the earliest.
That’s too far away. Players still need time to adapt to a new coach and system. We all know this team is going to lose more games, that’s just what they do in November. No reason to keep wasting time and another season.

Maybe. But that’s just my read of the tea leaves. Staios has described their m.o., and it think that unless they panic, they’re saying they’ll take the time to evaluate.

Have a look at the schedule, that's how it is. We're off til Weds, but new coach will need at least a day or two of practice, hence it has to happen tomorrow.

If not, we have 3 games in 4 nights and then it's off to Sweden. I don't think they would send a new coach with 0 practice time to Sweden. So it would be after they get back at the earliest.

probably not much but the fans chanting fire dj and booing are being idiots and not helping the situation don't blame brady for calling out there bs in the media either.
I don't know about the fans booing not helping. If we all clapped for him then he would be delusional about his effect on this hockey team.

Fun fact

In 2012 the Leafs fired Ron Wilson

Part of the reason being that they didn't want him to have to listen to the "fire Wilson" chants in the building anymore

New coach syndrome usually gets a huge burst of effort and revitalized energy. That leads to more wins over the short period.

That might help in the spring when we are 6 or 7 points out.

There's no doubt that this team needs a new coaching staff, but I want warn everyone that a coaching change doesn't mean that this team will win more games. There's a lot of work to be done with this group of players before they're ready to really compete for a playoff spot.
I think most of us know that. I think of Vancouver: they brought in Tocchet last year, this year, they're playing much better hockey. I think that's why many of us are saying we need a coaching change this season so that the new coach has time to re-train our young players so they can be better. So far this year so, it's the same old, same old, a write-off IMO unless the coaching change is done now and the players adapt quickly.

whats sad is that i can 100 percent see a hard ass coach coming in here and demanding accountability and it destroying this spoiled pampered ass team.
I guess it depends on how much they want to win.
