He'll last until the end of the season unless the team quits on him. Staios is right. The team doesn't cheat on effort.
Hmmm .... guess we'll find out. I can't imagine the idea of a new coach hasn't crossed Staois & Andlauer's minds. I'd guess that about the only thing that can help DJS now is a good winning record, and I'd think that would need to occur by American Thanksgiving. Andlauer didn't seem like a happy camper today or a guy that was too impressed with what's been happening.

Winning will solve a lot of this teams problem right now. 6-3 in November and we’re in a completely different frame of mind from Nov 1

I think we’ve seen enough of DJ to know what he is.

DJ had done a great job creating a cohesive room. He has built a close knit culture. I appreciate the good things he’s done.

We unfortunately haven’t seen enough improvement, enough elevation, to believe he’s the answer to take the sens to the Stanley Cup.

DJ would be a great camp counselor. A great cruise activity director. A great wedding planner.

We need a great NHL head coach. It’s very clear that DJ is not that.

Only 77 coaches have stuck with a single team for more seasons than DJ. Some of those coaches have done it for multiple teams. The vast majority of them have had much more success than DJ. To be clear, I’m not saying this to suggest that DJ should be fired because he’s coached X many games and other coaches having coached y many games in different circumstances have had more success. I’m raising it to demonstrate that compared to NHL history, we’ve got a massive sample size to judge DJ’s performance and he’s clearly fallen short.

It’s time to move on.

Looks like Staios disagrees with you at the moment. You’ll have to be a bit more patient it would seem.

Dreger on Overdrive said that DJ and Dorion, while cordial, didn’t have a strong or close relationship.

You’d think that with such a small hockey ops group over the last few years, someone would’ve been in the foxhole with Pierre. But it turns out that he was more unlikeable and isolated than anyone could’ve imagined, and nobody was with him. Not even the coach.

I don’t expect Staios to rush into any coaching changes now. Obviously DJ has to get some wins, but I’ll be curious to see how he does in a more collaborative, supportive, team-first environment. I don’t think he’ll be here long term, but he probably survives until his contract is up in the summer (unless, of course, we have our typical November).

It sounds like Dorion really was a toxic presence who brought everyone down and viewed himself as some sort of czar.

I bet everyone in that building will be smiling tomorrow.

If/when he's fired one day, I bet (using Pinto's account, duh!) he'll still be the first coach since Jacques Martin to get another head coach job somewhere in the NHL. Maybe an assistant coach somewhere first, but not long after that.

Remember how two weeks ago, you were responding to every “fire Dorion” post with a “not happening, Staios made it clear that Pierre runs the day to day”?

Well what happened today?

Andlauer clearly doesn’t like how things have been going here. It’s been the opposite of “best in class”, and he essentially said that today.

Will DJ be fired tomorrow? No, but If they lose 5 games over the next two weeks? He’ll be on the hot seat. Yesterday was Pierre’s last straw. How many does DJ have left?

The coddling is over. He has to prove himself. I don’t think any of the “new guys” will have much loyalty or patience with the carryovers from the Dorion era.

They don’t want to be part of a circus. They want the stench of Melnyk and Dorion gone.

As long as we don't go below 500 for more than a couple games, they probably won't change the coach until the new GM is brought in.

Yeah as Ghost already said, we remember you saying the same about Dorion.

I don’t particularly care what the sens are saying in public right now, the writing is on the wall for DJ as it was for PD. Heck, DJ would likely have been fired already but for ownership change. He’s on borrowed time. Unless they go on an incredible heater he’s gone.

The new GM will want his guy.

I think he's one of the best mainstream options for a young team. He's not what this team needs right now but I think he was in the past. He's pretty good at developing young players, creating a very cohesive tight-knit room, and bringing a fun atmosphere.

Every coach has an expiration date, and DJ's was some time ago. I do think he's had a positive impact for most if not all of the guys in the room. It's just time to move on with a coach who can help this core take the next step. Not sure if he gets another HC job right away but definitely an assistant on a good team.

Somebody needs to help establish habits and mindsets that championship teams have ala Cooper. I wish we can have Cooper coach this team, I think he would be the guy to push this core forward. Of the guys available, Julien would be cool though. Anybody else?

Must be shakin in his boots.
He's honestly probably very relieved that Dorion is gone. He's going to have more support and will have more confidence in management to have his back.

I totally agree on all accounts. This entire situation of Dorion leaving and an us against the world mentality is one last opportunity. I wish he had got a new D coach at some point that's the biggest weakness but that's on DJ to identify it. This month is going to determine his future with the team and if he lasts the year.

2 weeks ago, no one here knew anything of the Dadonov trade eff up, and the subsequent loss of a first rounder…..

Murray was a buffer between EM and everybody else. Could it be that DJ played the same role between PD and the coaches/players/staff?

Wrong. We’ve known about the Dadonov fiasco for over a year. It’s just that a few posters couldn’t bring themselves to possible contemplate that their idol Pierre messed something up. Nothing to see here! You said it with such certainty.

It’s funny, Andlauer confirmed all of the gripes that you pretended weren’t real yesterday. Dadonov, cap and asset mismanagement… he referenced numerous “straws” - called them self-inflicted, negligent and avoidable mistakes - that Dorion used up, which ended up costing him his job.

But just last week you were talking about how the owner was clearly happy with Pierre’s work this summer and the direction of the team.

Lolz.

You and others were wrong, got called out. Just deal with it and move along.
How ridiculous…. Show me one post, prior to the NHL announcement last week, that Ottawa was likely going to be penalised for the Dadonov NTC issue…. That indicated the possible loss of a first round pick….

nice try, but putting words into my post, that I did not post is ridiculous.

I follow the Sens closely and listen to a few Sens podcasts, and there was never a mention of this penalty (1st rounder) until a week ago…. So up until then, there was a low percentage of PD being let go, but once the NHL rules a loss of a 1st rounder, obviously this was reason enough to part ways with PD, as the buck stopped with him.

but go ahead and believe your fantasy, as it seems important to you.

Ya, some people have been consistently wrong when it came to regime that has been in place. I don't expect Staois to say yes we're searching (or interviewing) for a new coach now in a press conference or to media. The team is going to have to perform well in November I'd guess. That's the best situation for DJ to extend his tenure as the Senators coach.

You can see with Andlauer presser that he was not a fan of Dorion. Was ready to give him a chance , because probably don t want to fired everyone from the start. Probably happy that he have an excuse to fired him
