Does anyone else feel like this is somehow going to end with us falling just two points short? Just so we can "what if" every loss this season?

Let me see at least 4 wins in the next 5 games, then I might agree with you. Sadly, I don't think this teams gets that close.

Eklund doesn't. He has them (as of this week) finishing 3rd in the Pacific , ahead of both the Oilers and Flames. Based on some system he calculates with various variables. Not much of it makes sense...He posts updates (today it was the Atlantic Div final s tandings).

He obviously doesn't watch any of the kings game and his predictions are the same as 90 percent of posters on the main boards that only look at paper...

This stretch is going to be a complete repeat of 2015. The will get close and they keep losing the important games to actually get them into the playoffs.

I dont think theyll get as close this year though, which might be for the best.

The one solace to take from this suffrage is that this will be an eye opening experience that in order to mitigate change, something has to be done.

Dean said that he discussed this with Sutter last summer, talking about adapting to today's game, but nothing that I've seen on the ice showed that.

I'd say missing the playoffs and taking a hit in attendance and season ticket cancellations will really hit home that this team needs to go in a different direction. Not so much in rebuilding, but restructuring.

I keep going back to the Penguins as an example of this but they really are the model for this blueprint, that change isn't so bad.

Being as stubborn as I am, I continue to watch thinking, "maybe a different Kings team will show up tonight," but more often than not, I'm seeing a team that's in an uphill battle to gain two points throughout every game.

And I still can't wash out the bad taste that was left in my mouth from those unacceptable performances against the Canucks and Blues. Those are games that really stand out, ones you can pinpoint as turning point for the worse.

Bonus points if you know the name of this former Gull goaltender.

If that happens, at least it won't be to the lowly Oilers, who according to the internet, was the SOLE reason the Kings missed the playoff in 2015.

Haven't seen much of that until LaDue and Kempe were called up. The damage was done very early on when King, Purcell and Seto saw regular rotation on the top line game after game with nothing to show for it.

After the games of 3/19:

NSH projects to 2nd wildcard and 94 points. Kings would need to go 10-1 to get 95 points, so, .909 needed.

Tragic number is 17 points.

The Kings can't feel sorry for themselves. They just have to go out there and get the two points tonight, and the game after that, and the game after that.

If everyone plays well, no one has to play great.

Blah, blah, blah...

After the games of 3/21:

NSH and STL both project to 95 points. The Kings' max if they go 10-0 is 95. Their tragic number is 13 points.

What scenario will cement the King's elimination, 3 loses? 4 loses? and any single win from STL/NSH?

You needed it cemented? I promise you the slab has been poured and brush finished.

We are just putting water on it so it doesn't cure too quickly.

Behind by 8 points for the last wild card spot, they're still mathematically in it. The Kings are playing for 20 points from their remaining 10 games. As long as their point potential exceeds their deficit, they won't be officially eliminated.

But it doesn't matter because the teams immediately above them in the standings (STL, NAS) would have to monumentally fail as much as the Kings would have to win. I believe in miracles, but it isn't happening to this group this year. We've used up our favor with the hockey gods during our 2 cup runs.

That's what "tragic number" means. Mathematically, they will be eliminated with any combination of points lost by the Kings (out of points available) and points gained by whoever is further behind of STL/NSH that sums to 13 points.

After the games of 3/23:

If the Kings go 9-0 in their remaining games, they will be at 95 points, which projects to a tie with STL and NSH. Unfortunately, the Kings trail both teams on the ROW tiebreaker (39/35/33).

Their tragic number _actually_ sits at 11 points now.
