No way Canada drops the best defensive defensman (Vlasic) while we are playing a defensive system. Vlasic would also be the perfect partner for Karlsson.

The forwards are a bit lacking on the defensive side of the game. I'd assume they would want to use one of the more offensive ones as a extra and bring someone better at D in to use in the main roster.

Also Crawford > Holtby as shown by Canada using Crawford as their number 2 while Holtby is number 3. Might take one of the US goalies (not quick) over Crawford though.

Getzlaf, Perry and Thornton replaced by Ovechkin, Malkin and Kane.

Duchene and Couture replaced by Kopitar and Pavelski.

O'Rielly and Giroux not making the team since Sequin and Benn are.

With those changes I don't think we lose out on that much defense considering were getting two of the best defensive players in Kopitar and Pavelski while getting 3 of the best offensive players in the world.

Suter along with Weber adds mobility while still having great defensive play. Lets not forget about chemistry.

Taking Vlasic over Hedman would just be stupid IMO. Classic is great and all but its not like he has been great.

I would take Schneider and Holtby as my goalies but I feel like Lundqvist is the first choice for some reason.

You Don't leave the best defensive D off a defensive system. Obviously you leave Suter off not Hedman but you still bring Vlasic.

And again Crawford > Holtby for team canada as shown by us using Crawford as the number 2 and Holtby as number 3.

Also toss away one of the Russian/Kane and bring Carter. He was picked for the original team and is better defensively. your adding to many offensive first players for the teams system.

Don't think McDavid would've made it. Sure he brings an offensive upside as good as anyone, but his game is far from complete. He's an unnecessary risk that TC doesn't need to take. Look at Canada's centers, they're elite in all aspects of the game.

In: Kane, Ovi, Hedman, Lunqvuist
Out: Stamkos, Marchand, Bowmeester, Crawford

Why are you assuming that Canada would play the same system when you have this talent to choose from?

I'm sure I'm missing many candidates but if we're assembling a super team, these are many of the names that come to mind. From there, the risk is just choosing the most talented and not have them gel. I think you had the ability to choose from all these players, you get a talented coaching/management group together, come up with a vision for how the team is going to play and then pick based on fit.

FORWARDS:
Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Kane
Benn
Seguin
Tarasenko
Kopitar
Toews
Getzlaf
Perry
Thornton
Pavelski
Gaudreau
Mcdavid
Duchene
O'reilly
Bergeron
Carter
Giroux
Kessel

DEFENSEMEN:
Keith
Doughty
Karlsson
Hedman
OEL
Suter
McDonagh
Josi
Subban

GOALTENDERS:
Lundqvist
Price
Quick
Rask

A quick attempt:

Ovechkin - Crosby - Kane
As all 3 guys like to carry the puck, this line would work better if they focused on give and goes and cycling between Crosby and Kane and Ovechkin functioning as a Hull-like shooting threat, with the added benefit of being able to attack of the rush.

Tavares - Malkin - Tarasenko
Wasn't sure about this line. Tavares is at his best at center but feels too good to leave off an offensive line. Provides a playmaker for Malkin to work with, while Tarasenko provides a deadly shooting threat and is dangerous off the rush.

Benn - Kopitar - Seguin
Proven chemistry between Benn and Seguin, anchored by Kopitar who can fill the Getzlaf/Thornton two way role better than either Canadian.

O'reilly - Toews - Bergeron
Not the most talented line the world could ice here, but one I've always wanted to see. Three of the best defensive forwards in the game right now all playing together to suffocate whatever matchup they were up against. All have enough talent not to look out of place amongst the world's top players. O'Reilly provides an extra left handed face-off man, Bergeron provides a right handed face-off man.

Extras: Mcdavid, Pavelski
Mcdavid because his talent is too much to ignore. If one of the other centers is hurt or not playing well he can take over. Pavelski brought as an extra in case we need a bit more scoring to sub into this line. There are 6-10 guys who could be subbed into this lineup from around the world with whom the team would easily be as good or better though.

Keith - Doughty
Proven chemistry, if healthy Keith is still a top defenseman in the world.

Hedman - Karlsson
One of the world's best LHD with the world's best RHD and puck mover.

Josi - Weber
Proven chemistry.

OEL, Suter, Mcdonagh, Pietrangelo, Subban all good choices for this team. Potentially over some of the groups above. If we're looking a couple years in the future, could sub in OEL/Pietrangelo over Keith and Weber as they age.

Ovechkin - Crosby - Kane

This would not work, whatsoever. Real life isn't like NHL 17 where you just put the three guys with the highest ratings together.

They already have enough talent do to any system they want yet they choose to do a defensive one. I assume that wont change.

Toews, Bergeron, Kopitar, Pavelski, Marchand and Benn are great defensive forwards. Tavares, Crosby and Malkin are more than capable of being responsible defensively. That's 6 of the 12 being excellent defensively while 3 are capable. That makes up for Ovechkin, Kane and Sequin not being great.

Weber, Keith, Doughty and Hedman are all great defensively. Kraals' being the best offensive D-man in the world. I think taking Suter for his slightly better offense and chemistry with Weber more than makes up for Vlasic's slightly better defensive play.

How is this not fulfilling a defensive syster?

I like that the guy considered the best American player is the guy that gifted the Europeans a 2-on-0 scoring opportunity that put that game out of reach.

Team Canada:

Benn - Crosby - Seguin
Tavares - Malkin - Kane
Ovechkin - Kopitar - Tarasenko
Pavelski - Backstrom - Bergeron
Toews

Keith - Doughty
Vlasic - Karlsson
Hedman - Subban
Weber

Go for that fabled McDonagh-Subban pairing.

McDavid is better than Crosby at same age.

crosby at 18 : 102 pts in 81 gms for 1.25 pts per game
mcdavid at 18: 48 pts in 45 gms for 1.06 pts per game.

Sample size is not the same but 45 games is enough imo.

Pretty sure mcdavid had better wingers too.

Mcdavid is faster and flashier but better ? Not sure.

USA

Kane
Wheeler
Pavelski
Pacioretty
Parise
Suter/MacDonagh (in place of Muzzin)

Wheeler, Pacioretty?

Seriously Kane, Kessel and maybe Pavelski. Canada was missing Seguin, Benn and Carter!

What is the era adjusted stats?

From Sweden, only Karlsson and Hedman.

But if you go back some years, Players like Markus Näslund, Forsberg, Sedins, Zetterberg, Sundin, Alfredsson, Lindström, Kronwall would all be good enough to make Team Canada.....Sweden had such amazing players.....not anymore.

I'll admit, I only made this line-up because of the 1st line. Would ultimately fail considering Crosby works best with two way forwards/grinders/agitators, but hey, why not?

Ovechkin - Crosby - Malkin
Benn - Kopitar - Kane
Tavares - Toews - Bergeron
Duchene - Getzlaf - Perry
Seguin/Marchand/Couture

Keith - Doughty
Vlasic - Karlsson
Suter - Weber
Hedman/Subban/Letang

(Okay, I'll admit, again, that 3rd pair is only for convenience, would probably put Hedman in otherwise)

Price
Crawford
Quick
