This whole Matthews going to Arizona is just a joke and a meme right? Even if he really wanted to leave I can't imagine that he'd go to the Yotes where its going to be a bottom team for many years and he's playing in front of fans that only mildly care about the NHL.

I've said it before and I'll say it again that as long as the Leafs are willing to pay him, he will stay. He's playing in perhaps the most passionate hockey market in the NHL with his best buddy Marner as his linemate and on a team that will be competing for many years to come. Why in the world would anyone give up all that just to play in their hometown? You'd have to be insane to do that.

As for anyone's jobs being on the line, I will be pissed if Dubas ever goes. He's easily the Leafs best GM in at least the last 20-30 years and its hard to look back at all his moves and see many bad decisions that he's made in comparison to previous Leafs GM. Playoff hockey is almost always a crapshoot and I don't know how you can fault him for the team's performance that was within a few centimeters of going on to the second round.

Dubas has done all he can to build a really good team and sometimes things just don't bounce your way as we saw tonight. Win or lose I hope he stays and continues to make this team as good as he can and I really don't think there's another GM candidate out there that can do a better job than he has in the past few years to get the Leafs and their prospect pool going in the right direction.

Please Leafs just win on Saturday so that we can put this who might lose their job discussion to a rest.

see normally I agree with that.

but there comees a point where 1st round exists simply aren't acceptable anymore.

How many more 1st round exists does Dubas get?

All teams are forced to hit the cap minimum. Paying Matthews 10-12 per isn't an issue.

it is when you legitimately can't pay the rent on the building so the building kicks you out

I expect some player movement to happen with either a win or a loss. :sarcasm:

I don't anticipate much to happen within the ranks of coaching or management. Here's hoping for a win on Saturday so I don't have to seriously ponder and elaborate on whether or not I feel that is ultimately for the best.

If for some reason we don't win Saturday i had it in my head that two of the big three off ice positions would change... Shanny.Dubas Keefe. Keefe for sure but just wasn't sure of the dynamic and standing that Shanny and Dubas have. I assume Shanny would be the one to stay with a chance to put a new GM in place.

Those moves would then shape the roster.

I have no interest in these things however... i just want to win game 7 and keep going.. be happy if they all stayed gainfully employed.

I don't think Shanny goes but I'm so sure about Dubas and Keefe espically considering Trotz is out there.

Rent or not, Yotes are paying the 60m minimum (or whatever it is next year) no matter what. The hometown kid coming home to save the franchise would be catnip for Bettman. The media would love nothing more that to rub that in leafs fan faces for the next eight plus years while setting up the new America (Matthews) vs Canada (McDavid) battle.

Marner just doesn’t quite get it IMO. Playing like a ballerina tonight, stupid 360’s and passes. Take it hard to the net and score a greasy goal in OT like point did. There’s no style points in OT. Missed opportunity.

I still think the front office will stay together but be told there has to be a significant shakeup of the core.

It would be six years and counting.

Anybody know what the NHL record is for consecutive 1st round exits?

Keefe, Campbell, Kerfoot, and probably Nylander. They might keep Nylander for the new coach.

Dubas/Shanahan will get one more coach.

Keefe will have to go.
Spreadsheet Dubas should go too.
Nylander should be traded.
Campbell should lose his #1 goalie job, but be kept as the backup (assuming a #1 can be found via trade or free agency).

I don't care anymore. If they lose, run it back, trade all 23 of them, fire everyone, extend them all. It won't make a difference.

Out of curiosity (as I'm not a Leafs fan): if there is a consensus here that there are jobs are on the line for Round 1 - Game 7, what would happen if the Leafs lost Round 2? Same thing or more leeway?
The fact you had to put you aren't a Leafs in brackets is funny as f***.

We read the OOT Habs thread dude.

Much more leeway.

Win a round, and you can sell the season as progress - building towards something better, because this project has finally jumped over it's biggest hurdle.

Lose, and it's yet another year of failure, 8 years into this thing.

I don't think Shanny's job is on the line Saturday but I'm not even sure about that.
he was hired more than 8 years ago in 2014

no playoff wins

yet he keeps this job

when's the last time anyone spotted this guy anyhow

i guess that's how you keep your job, just stay off the radar

Dafuq???

It is about results, not comparisons to previous GMs, ffs.

Playoff hockey is almost always a crapshoot

No it isn't.

I don't know how you can fault him for the team's performance that was within a few centimeters of going on to the second round.

Um, you do know they've failed year after year right?

No he hasn't.

Funniest shit I've read in ages.
