You can't run it back again if they lose the series. Gonna be a bitch to determine what changes need to be made to get these guys over the hump.

Tavares and his 11m is the preferred move but if he's not waiving, if I could get the right mix of players and some cap relief for Nylander and Marner I would entertain offers.

Dump Mrazek, find a true #1 or resign Soup but I think Soilers may outbid us. Who was the last 41 year old that withstood the 2 month grind of playing every other day ??

Dubas's should. Keefe with him. But I can just hear the excuses should they lose
Took the SC champs to game 7
Learning how to win
golaied
expected goals/wins
refs
context
etc
Winners find a way, losers make excuses

Refs and the game #4 no show should be the excuses but I am optimistic they do not lay an egg in game #7.

I don't know how the jobs of the front office couldn't be on the line at minimum.

There needs to be a shakeup if the Leafs lose for psychological purposes. Forget the fan base, how do you sell the players in the locker room that next year can be different with most of the same pieces intact? At a certain point I'm sure even they will question if this is the right mix.

Shouldn't trade any of the core they are all playing well over PPG in the playoffs against the 2x Stanley Cup Champs.

You have to find a better supporting cast for sure but this series has just shown they are even closer to elite than everyone thought.

I don’t think anyone In management has their job on the line. I think Jack Campbell has his career as a Leaf on the line. I also think William Nylander might have it to.

If they lose how do you improve the goaltending with the cap space they have? Do you just replace Mikeyehv and his 21 goals with Nick Robertson?

None. But I'd be all for a big trade this summer to shake things up a bit.

I do believe though that Dubas and Keefe are a packaged deal. I don't think you could get rid of one and keep the other -- they're just too much tied to each other. Although Dubas would be far more logical to keep around than Keefe if the time ever came.

Dafuq???

It is about results, not comparisons to previous GMs, ffs.

No it isn't.

Um, you do know they've failed year after year right?

No he hasn't.

Funniest shit I've read in ages.
I think that poster is Dubas' Mom!

I suspect people expecting immediate dramatic changes, especially based off a single game will be in for a rude awakening.
Based off a single game? Are you serious?

The honest truth is this year is the most unfair to draw a line and fire so and so or blow it up or whatever. This is arguably the most difficult opponent they could have faced and the have gone toe to toe with them.

You can blame the completely idiotic playoff seeding format of the NHL more than anything. That's the real injustice of the situation and what fans should be upset about. God the NHL is run so poorly.

The truth is Dubas has actually built a very good team.

Zero. I keep the coaches, the GM and whatever. This team on paper and on the ice are really good and they deserve to keep pushing until they regress.

Keep working, keep tinkering and keep trying to build.

I'm all for a big move or two though in terms of roster changes.

I was firm that this was a last chance season here. I don't know now. Blowing it up might be a big mistake, grass isn't always greener etc. Let's discuss after we see what happens Saturday.
I think if they win Saturday management/coaches are safe. If they lose Saturday it will depend on how they lose and what Tampa does in round 2 onward, if they produce the same effort as last years game 7 changes have to happen be it personnel or IMO coaching. If they lose a hard fought game, then it kind of depends on what Tampa does. if Tampa goes back to the finals there is no shame in loosing in 7 to a 2 time cup champ that went back to the finals.

If Tampa lays an egg next round then you question how good they are this year and maybe make changes. Tampa looks beatable this year, is that Tampa or is it the improved Leafs- probably a bit of both.

Leaf's at their best have been better than Tampa's best in this series. Other than game one where Tampa did not show up Tampa has been more consistent than the Leafs. The Leaf's highs are higher and their lows are lower. That is probably to be expected given Tampa's playoff experience, they can still compete when not at their best.

We shall see.

The decision to fire someone obviously is going to come down to their entire body of work within an organization.

I don't think the MLSE board is going to fire members of the front office if they lose game 7. Either plans to make changes to the front office were already going to happen or they won't - one game isn't the factor here. And at the moment id wager there are no plans to change personnel.

None. This team has excelled in expectations. If anything they need to make some tough choices this off season on some key positions. You might see Nylander gone. Or some other contract to free up some cap space.

In what way has the team not improved consistently from one year to the next?

f***...I just can't. The lack of common sense on these boards and simple hockey knowledge just kills me. This is why I don't post here much anymore.

We need a change
Earlier I thought it was academic that Shanny and KD would be out, but I kind of feel now Dubas remains teflon. Tampa is a much weaker club than the last 2 seasons but I think the "two time defending champs" thing will obscure the fact this was an 8th overall club with a played to death Vasi they should have beaten. Maybe if the Bolts get thumped in round 2 that doesn't fly the same way but probably not. They now have only 2 years of Matthews and Nylander's "bargain deals" remaining and that shrinking window is on management same as the $40M on 4 forwards that pressures them differently. Shanny approved those deals so that is sunk moeny to him. If they were to lose round 1 again and Dubas stays there is no way he punts Keefe. I am sure Trotz looks like Babcock 2.0 to Kyle and where else is the clear upgrade?

However I have my doubts Vasilevskiy will bring it the same way next game and the champs are about to be retired. Then we will be asking if getting swept in 4 in the second round will put any jobs on the line.) Or maybe we will even save the fire the coach and Tavares disappointment threads till after the games are all played.:)

"much weaker team"?

How the f*** are they a much weaker team? The coaching staff is the same. They kept most of their key players. ALL their stars.

They made some decent pick ups.

They have experience now winning it all twice in a row... By what metric are they "MUCH weaker"? Because they didn't gas themselves getting 150 points in the regular season? Because Vasi has looked human? You don't think that MAYBE Vasi looking human is more of a testament to our forwards being skilled AF?

It's a common opinion around the league by hockey panelists and writers, that whomever wins this series is favored to go to the finals. It's a common opinion because both these teams are legit and one of them is going to go home early.

FFS...I just don't have the strength to argue these piss poor hockey takes.

All depends on Shanny .. if he agrees with Larry and retools mgmt/coach/roster then he stays .. if not then he goes too .. it will get decided in boardroom after season like it always does .. us season ticket subscribers/license holders/sponsors are not UP for another movement of 3rd and 4th liners which has failed for past 3 years .. da fans really don't have much impact because their $$$ is not flowing into da team .. you could see this past season that tickets were not selling and for game 5 their were plenty of tickets available pregame from scalpers really cheap .. this is unheard of in TO but it occurred .. and will get progressively worse next season if team loses to Tampa in round 1

Our team is just cursed. No other explanation. Just riddled with bad luck every single year.

We just had a record setting season and we're about to go 0-9 when trying to close out a series. Is this due to incompetence? I doubt it.

There will be too much pressure to make changes from ownership IMO.

Sadly, there will be a coaching change if we don't make past rd 1. Keefe is good but at the end of the day hockey is all about winning. And we can't seem to get it done with him. Especially with being at the helm of a good team.

I also predict Nylander will get traded as part of the change. He played well but his laziness was on full display during the series at some moments and it will cost him a spot on the team next year. If Kadri can get traded for his dumb repeated suspensions, then Willy can definitely get traded for his laziness.

I honestly hope the Leafs can win tomorrow.

They have improved during the regular season yes. But four years of game 7 eliminations in round 1 shows me nothing really has progressed at the end of the day. All the team needs to do is win tomorrow and get into the second round.

If they are improving then they are trending in the right direction. Dubas has made AMAZING finds being hamstrung with large contracts, he's managed to consistently find diamonds in the rough.

Mykeyev, Bunting, Campell, Lybushkin, Kampf, Kase. Picked up Brodie, and got Gio for cheap. Him and his scouting staff are on point. And if we ever have to rebuild I would trust nobody else to do it smartly.
