How many games will the Kings have to lose to get the best odds at the #1 pick?

Our luck we finish last and Colorado gets 1st overall and picks Hughes. Him and Rantanen curb stomp the Kings forever more. We pick a Euro kid who 100% busts. This is fine. This is what it's like to be a Kings fan minus the 2 anomaly years we won the Cup.
 
If the Kings get the second pick, a line of Kupari and Kakko would be pretty sick.

The Kings cannot stick with their philosophy of putting ex-players in charge who never won a damn thing while playing for the Kings.

Those people come from a culture of failure.

It would be a dream if we could get Kakko, who is a more explosive player than Kupari. Add Vilardi into the mix and you have 3 excellent young skilled forwards. It would take 2 or 3 seasons to mature, but they would be dynamite in their early 20's.

This would be great. Time to start reshaping the roster with players who can support these kind of players being the best players on the team. That isn't done with bloated contracts being paid to 35 year old players.

I have my doubts about Vilardi being a huge factor, but if Muzzin can recover from back issues when he was younger, maybe Vilardi can as well.

Muzzin is exactly my model for that. He legit had back surgery as well, and Pitt just let him walk. That would be bad news.

Ottawa sits with the league's worst points percentage, on pace to finish the season with 70 points. Thus, for the best odds at the first pick, the Kings would need to acquire no more than 34 points in their final 42 games -- a percentage of .405, or a record of 15-23-4.

With WD’s coaching decisions, that is definitely a possibility
 
After the games of 1/2/19, Ottawa remains on a 70 point pace, making the target a 15-22-4 record in the remaining half of the season (one point fewer than they collected in this first half).

By contrast, to pass Anaheim for the WC2 spot, the Kings would need 55 points in their final 41 games, or a record of 26-12-3.

And 26-12-3 is very doable .....except for the fact that, on a regular basis, most of the team doesn't show up for game day. The guys who consistently show up are Brown, Doughty, Quick, Campbell, Lewis (injured), and Martinez (injured). That means that, everynight, about 16 guys phone it in. This is a sinking ship.....

Who knows, point is it's idiotic to believe that someone can't be good solely because they played for that club, same reason it's idiotic to think they can't be bad because they played for the club etc.

Let people earn their reputation based on what they do, not what they did.

As of 1pm PST on 1/6/19, the Senators remain on pace for 31st, projecting to 67 points. That allows the Kings to acquire at most 29 points in their remaining 39 games, a percentage of .372 or a record of 13-23-3.

By contrast, to pass Minnesota's projected 88 points and snag the WC2 playoff slot, the Kings would need to collect 52 points, for a record of 25-12-2 or a percentage of .667.

Not waiting? Didn't that whole thing last for a full calendar year? Through a trade deadline, and a draft, and an entire summer. It even says "steadfast refusal to trade disgruntled star center Matt Duchene" in that article.

How old was Duchene when he was traded for a bunch of stuff? 26. Not 33, not 30. And, the Sens were 5th in the East, 9th overall, and coming off Game 7 of the 3rd round when they got Duchene. Fully expecting to not be anywhere near as bad as they've been since that trade, which is 31st, 10 points behind the Wings. NHL.com - Stats

The Kings are now on pace for 67 points. One less point than back in 06-07, and tied with the 96-97 team. Of course back in 96-97, there wasn't a guaranteed winner every night.

The Kings are 12-25-8 in regulation this year. Better than only Detroit's 8-22-15. Not only are the Kings bad in regulation, they're also not being propped up by OT winner points, as they are 31st in points% when taking all points into account. Just a solidly bad team.

Philly currently sits 31st, percentage points behind the Kings, and on pace for 69 points. That would allow the Kings 29 points in their final 36 games, a percentage of .403 or a record of 13-20-3. (Their current percentage after 46 games is .424).

For the playoffs, the Kings would need to surpass the Wild's projected 88 points, requiring 50 points in their final 36 games - a percentage of .694 or a record of 24-10-2.
