How exactly are we re-signing the kids?

There are many teams that are in cap trouble. All the teams should just say, f*** it, and sign who they want. What can the league do to teams over the cap, really? Tell the league to take their cap and shove it.

GM's hate the cap. But the owners love it. The owners aren't going to authorize the GM's to do anything that will hurt the owners.

I think Chytil will be 4 years. He's still only 23 (turns 24 in Sept).

If the cap goes up by 4 mil, that would be tremendous. We'd be able to go longer on Chytil and Miller, though Drury might use the extra money to add another player instead.
Looking at the playoffs, all big market teams are in. Seattle and Vegas should help a lot.

Still think they came out to be conservative, in not to screw teams over with the chance escrow isn’t paid off.

And even if they don't pay off the escrow in full, they could still negotiate a smaller increase.

Re-Sign:

Chytil $2.3M -> $5.3M AAV = +$3M
Lafreniere $925k -> $2.425m = +$1.5M
Kravtsov $875k -> $1.175M = +$0.3M
Gauthier $800k -> $1M = +$0.2M
Miller $925k -> $3.925M = +$3M

Total Cap Gained = $8M

Off the books:
Blais $1.525M -> $925K replacement = -$600k
Halak $1.5M -> $1M replacement = -$500k
Shattenkirk/Girardi/DeAngelo buyouts = -$3.4M
Cap increase $1M

Total Cap Saved = $5.5M

How do we get rid of the remaining $2.5M? Would anyone take Goodrow?
You seem a little high for Chytil and low for KAM at least in comparison to one another.

Chytil is arbitration eligible and going into his third contract. K'AM is coming off of his ELC and still has 4 RFA years left. Those things can impact the numbers. I still think, if the money works, they try to do a longer term extension on Miller that would bump that cap hit higher (while ultimately saving money down the line). That would definitely require moving Goodrow, though.

i suspect Kravtsov Gauthier to be gone at deadline. They dont bring the grit and worth ethic and passion that Gallant wants in their 4th line

We shouldn't be making any huge change just to accommodate Gauthier and/or Kravtsov. As things are now Lafreniere is getting bridged. The real question in on Chytil and Miller. I think the Rangers right now would like to lock up both. I can see Chytil passing by Trocheck as soon as next year and funny but his name hasn't popped as movable but he certainly hasn't much chemistry with Panarin and Artemi certainly is the odd duck out as far as chemistry with anyone since Strome was let go.

they'd enter the season with very little cap room. Not enough to call guys up when injuries happen. Someone is likely going to have to be moved.
Look at the numbers I posted earlier. With a 21 man roster, it's doable.
I mean you can always play with LTIR. Leafs started the season with like 100 dollars in space and have been fine.
LTIR requires that someone actually be injured. And when they player comes back, they have to fit under the cap.

Panarin/Trouba on LTIR....pick your poison and we should be good to go...even 1/4 season of each at different times =20 games per player saves us approximately 4-5 million likely . I'm sure Panarin would love a 20 game vacation and Trouba undoubtedly be banged up from the playoffs and style of play . It's definitely an option ....

Odd that you pose the question both here and on the main boards like he's not currently having the best 2 year stretch of his career.

That's not how LTIR works.

Yeah that’s true but also remember the cap is going up, I also don’t think we are keeping Kravtsov, especially if the coach won’t play him. Chytil and Miller are the only ones who I see being the concern as far as cap hit with raises. Laf not getting much of a raise. Just have to see how it all pans out.

My guess is that Laf gets at least 3 million. Not easy to compare him with other first overalls, but he has some what similar production to Yakupov. And he got 2,5 mill x 2 in 2016. The cap has gone up 20% since then. So
3 pluss for Laf?

Every other team figures out ways to trade players NTC/NMC.

It certainly reduces value, but let's stop acting like it's impossible.

The problem with it is that this team is going to be competitive for years so, unless it's a perfect fit and the player feels like that too, it's not going to happen.

Trouba just got the captaincy and unlikely going anywhere or waiving based on him and his wife's career. Kreider obviously wants to be a career Ranger. Panarin's contract is a whopper with a flat cap even if you could convince him to waive. I don't see it.

Goodrow is likely the guy but it really doesn't help the team at all to send him packing given his versatility up and down the lineup.

We'll see.

Your number for KAM is pretty low. I think he's not coming in at less than 4.5M x 3 and, hopefully, they can manage a longer term than that. I'm sure they're trying to.
I used the numbers the OP used. I don't entirely agree with them either. KAM might be higher, Chytil might be lower. I think both Kravtsov and Gauthier will be lower. Overall though, the numbers are close enough. Drury will squeeze where he can to make them fit.
