Yzerman needs to strike big and get #1 defansman for this team.all this guys Zadorov , Trouba, Walman are secondary guys. Somehow he should get guy like Warensky or Josi

What are you smoking.?

We have Seider as 1D.

Of course, having two 1Ds would be nice.

Edvinsson will grow to be the 2D.

We just need solid vets to surround them.

Kronwall played with Lidstrom , Larkin played with Both Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Now Seider have never played with anyone better than him in NHL. That's what I am smoking about.

Trading for Werenski or Josi won't change that. Defensively anyway...

Every other teams young players are also getting better. If that’s the plan, it won’t be enough.

Ottawa will get growth from Stutzle and Sanderson, plus Tkachuk is still very young. Actually their whole core is very young.

Buffalo will see improvements from Dahlin, Power, Cozens, Quinn, etc

MTL looking at Slaf becoming a true threat, Mailloux, Hutson, etc

and that is just our own division
Who are the young up and comers in Tampa? Boston? Toronto? Florida? And that is just our own division.

If we're assuming none of our prospects will pan out as anything more than "every other team", what are we even doing in a rebuild? Ottawa/Buffalo/MTL should have comparable young talent because they are also deep in rebuilds, but those aren't the teams we're trying to overtake.

Didn't we mostly compete against Washington, Tampa, Pittsburgh etc. this season? I don't remember much noise from Buffalo, Montreal or Ottawa in the playoff race.

Bottom line though is that there's a reality where ~5 years from now Buffalo, Detroit, Montreal and Ottawa are perennial playoff teams in the Atlantic. And it wouldn't even be that surprising or historically unheard of. Obsessing about where we are in the pecking order is something that's more important once the foundation is in place, we shouldn't do reactionary moves.

Are we repeating the 2023/24 season?

What was done this year matters 0% now
