How did Kevin Weekes know Columbus had dropped to #3 BEFORE the card was flipped??????

Ernst & Young would in no way risk their reputation on something like what you describe.

I know hockey's the most important thing here on these boards, but in the grand scheme of what they do, there's no upside to participating in a sham.

This is the same for Jenner & Block, the law firm that investigated the Hawks scandal. But most people don't believe that report, either. It's much easier for people to just say whatever they want, and ignore all the factual information that goes against what they say.

It's blatently fixed but not because of this. The Weekes 'gaff' is most likely a deliberate 'magicians hand' drawing focus away from the real trick. The fact they shoot 'video proof' of the draw and only release it after the main event should be the focus.

If you know, you know.

The other independent witnesses to the draw are also in on it. I'm going to call the local news and let them know. If you know, you know.

no not this but by doing the lottery behind closed doors it allows them to pick and choose whatever they like. Chicago may have won it but I question if the NHL had anything to do with it. no way in hell they were going to let CBJ win Bedard. it's just stupid how its done. I dont care if its boring. do the one we seen the other day for those who are bored by it and put the real lottery on Sportsnet 2 or 3 or something like that. either way we should be seeing it
You really think the NHL wanted Connor McDavid in Edmonton?

If the NHL rigged the lottery, and filmed a video showing that draw happening, and somehow(?) that video being released after the main event was proof of the fraud, what is preventing them from just releasing that video sooner?

Never did I say it was 'proof' of fraud - just that's where the 'trick' is most likely to show itself.

That one is a difference of scale. Jenner and Block is certainly not small - #103 law firm by size in the US per Wikipedia. Ernst & Young, however, is one of the Big Four - the top four professional services networks in the world. They stand to lose a lot more.

That, and EY's work on behalf of the NHL is strictly as a neutral integrity-preserving third party that makes sure the NHL follows its own drafted rules, and those rules take up all of a page or two. That's considerably smaller than a 100+ page report commissioned by the very people who stood to lose the most from having what happened revealed in full. There's not even the appearance of conflict of interest with what EY does there, and it's a lot quicker and easier to see what EY is doing in the first place. Jenner & Block's report is large and opaque, and they were hired by the people they were investigating, so naturally there's going to be a lot more doubt.

All fair, but what do they have to gain by risking their reputation, also? And then what do they have to lose? This is a half a billion dollar gross revenue firm. Not small potatoes, by any means.

I don't think they're lying on behalf of their client or something equally egregious; I'm just not confident that they would have been put in a position to be as thorough as necessary.

Admittedly, I have not read the whole report cover-to-cover. Mostly because I don't really have the available fortitude to go through the exacting details of something that vile. (I'm possibly not alone on that either.)

You're not wrong. The details described in it are vile and disgusting, though they only comprise a handful of pages of it. But to have a fully-informed opinion and to have a fully-informed discussion on it, sometimes it's necessary to bite the bullet and make ourselves uncomfortable for a while. A discussion where one side is working off of the closest thing that can be considered factual information, and the other is working off of rumor and clickbait news articles... is no discussion at all. It's a farce.

Given the nature of the base offense, I don't care to give enough benefit of the doubt to that organization to take that extra step.

I can understand fans of the team wanting/needing that kind of closure. But from my perspective that line is big enough that there are certain minimums expected in dealing with it afterward regardless, and those have not only not been met, they've been scorned at by ownership. I don't think the Blackhawks have earned a "clean slate" by the actions taken; I only see the bare minimum, and expressions of resentment over having had to do that much.

I mean, from what I understand, they've made all kinds of changes to HR, internal policy, and zero-tolerance stuff in response to this, but that's just me taking the ownership/front office's word on it. Anyone else is free to believe what they want.

Next year to make it more exciting they should just give all the GMs Bingo Cards and draw the numbers until someone calls out BINGO.

Would be exciting as **** watching guys like Davidson, Hughes, Verbeek, Kekalainen, Grier etc battling it out to get bingo and top pick in the 2024 draft.

People in Edmonton were throwing jerseys on the ice....making NHL look bush league....they had no choice

U really think NHL wanted Crosby in OC? Bedard??? HELL NO.....if it was LA sure
In California? On the team with the guy they are already advertising as the face of the league?? No, I can not imagine in a million years why the NHL would be ok with that

These conspiracy theorists are so silly. There would be about 28 or 29 teams the NHL would have wanted McDavid on over the Oilers. NHL teams know how the draft lottery works and what takes place. If there was any suspicion of rigging the draft, teams would be in an uproar.

It’s all a sham. If they were truly transparent they would show the drawing of the balls LIVE. Bettman is a crook.
Another conspiracy theorist.
It is lmao, it’s posted in the thread, or go watch Gary and the lawyers on NHL.com if don’t want to scroll back.
It’s a bit boring and 16-17 minutes long.

I know how Kevin Weekes knew and knew from the moment it happened. It's a television broadcast.

I'm way more surprised that the majority of people thought Kevin Weekes was following up each pick with a perfect comment off the top of his head randomly.
