How did Kevin Weekes know Columbus had dropped to #3 BEFORE the card was flipped??????

Here is the reality - San Jose stayed at #4 going to commercial for the final 3.

Nothing had changed but Weekes teased going to the commercial that Columbus has dropped and said the #1 pick would be Anaheim or Chicago. Look at the tape....................

HOW DID HE KNOW?

You're in TV and don't understand this? He's reading a prompter. The producers messed up, nothing more to it.

Weekes was tipped off by someone in that 'secured' room which is simply a bad look by the NHL.

An even worse look was the NHL having live feeds from watch parties in Chicago and Anaheim BUT not Columbus.

I really want to believe in the integrity of the NHL but tonight shook me.
Tipped off...by the prompter

Here's your integrity:

Guys, the Winnipeg jets moved up like what 5+ spots to draft Patric Laine who looked like the next Ovi at the time... NOT RIGGED

They do the reveal to make it more exciting. Just showing the lotto in real time would make for boring TV:

They post this video every year. It's a single uncut shot of the machine from the second the balls go in through the entire drawing. The only thing we don't physically get to see, but every team representative in the room does, is who has which combinations, and I guarantee if the team name they read out isn't the one on everyone's sheet of paper, the very wealthy, very competitive, and very litigious people who own the other twelve teams would sue the league into the ground.

We can discuss whether it's appropriate for Chicago to have participated in this draft, given the relative penalties assessed for substantially less severe behavior, but I have no doubt that the lottery drawing itself is entirely above board.

IN THEORY - Only the people locked in the secure drawing room know the results and can not leave that room until Bill Daly flips the card.

If all the guys with knowledge of the draw are locked in the “secured room”, who would set the cards up for Daly to flip??

I’m blown away that so many people don’t have any common sense in this situation.

Yes, some people involved in the TV production had knowledge of the picks before the “public” was told, that’s how they had all those individual statistics for each team drafting where they were drafting this year, and in relation to past drafts.

It’s interesting both the NHL and Weekes declined to comment when the Athletic asked them what happened. I don’t know why they can’t admit a simple truth: we made a mistake…we wanted a smooth presentation with appropriate graphics and facts so we let Weekes and ESPN know in advance...we’re human and mistakes happen.

If the lottery was rigged why would the league have put McDavid in Edmonton of all places

How do people still not know how the lottery is performed ahead of time?
Because this board is full of many softies

They think Weeks was just going off his wealth of knowledge on the spot on each team and the last time they drafted at so and so pick they drafted this person. Its a conspiracy

Next time you are outside at a populated area look around, its sad. Hell put on the TV and social media, its worse. I dont know if people are getting dumber and softer or its always been like this and the social media/ TV just make it more transparent.

Saw this one last night and LOLed:

So convenient to start the list in 2016. Also, Buffalo is a tiny market, states are irrelevant, and NJ is team #3 in the NY team market, not a priority either.

It’s no surprise that it’s not done live, the real scandal is that the broadcast networks somehow can’t go through the process without spoiling the result despite ample time to prepare the script and graphics. Two recent lottery results ruined by incompetence.

Was as dull alrdy IMO, I don't think them knowing the results made the production better in any way
My point was that producing a television program/event takes a lot of time and planning....everything tends to be all lined up....a lot of time down to seconds, so you need a pretty tight script on things.

If you think about live sporting events, the play by play is on the spot obviously, but most of the other things going on with the production are set up in advance.

I didn't watch the lottery results....never would...I think the only time I did was for the Crosby draft, but that was because it was a novelty, first time thing then.....so I'm sure it's pretty dull to begin with, but if you were truly showing live results without any TV personality or producers having prior knowledge of results....it would be literally someone showing the card and then someone would scramble to make some sort of comment about....there would be nothing to flash up on screen, etc.....there just isn't enough time to do that on the fly. I suppose you could do a lot of pre-planning to cover many different scenarios, but to slot something in based on the results coming just wouldn't happen quick enough.
