How did Kevin Weekes know Columbus had dropped to #3 BEFORE the card was flipped??????

Reminds of the story of how Burger King (I think?) came out with a 1/3 pound burger to compete with McDonald's 1/4 pounder and it supposedly failed because people thought they were getting more with the 1/4 pounder!

because the results are obviously determined prior to the broadcast

but let's be real, there was absolutely zero chance bedard was going to end up in anaheim or columbus

It's quite obvious Weekes/Production assumed that they would go into the commercial break with only two teams left. Instead, commercial break happened with three teams left and they jumped the gun on the Columbus announcement.

Let's be real, there was a 61% chance that Bedard wasn't going to end up in Anaheim or Columbus.

Again, I love how people will throw logic out the window to match with their narrative. I suppose this is why we're subjected to endless gambling ads now.

I wish I could find the post, but there was somebody on the basketball sub-forum who claimed that the NBA had the lottery rigged against the Minnesota Timberwolves since they never got any lottery help. His mathematical "proof" was along the lines of "the last four roulette spins were red, so the next one has to be black." Then the Timberwolves proceeded to win twice in recent memory.

Is it really that difficult to do a lottery live?
and taking way the NHLs right o place players where they like? not a chance. CBJ got screwed.
with the stuff Chicago has done and now get rewarded Bedard especially after openly tanking in this teams dont tank system. lottery is broken.

CBJ:
13.5% chance at picking #1
14.1% chance at picking #2
30.7% chance at picking #3
41.7% chance at picking #4

I suppose we have a different criteria for getting "screwed."

Yea the math can be difficult to wrap your brain around

Each team is the most likely single team to pick at a specific draft spot. But the teams with the best lottery odds as a single teams actually had higher odds to drop than keep same spot or move up.

Flames had two possible positions
Predators and Ducks had three
Blue Jackets, Penguins, Sabres and Senators* had four
Blackhawks had five
Sharks, Canadiens, Coyotes, Flyers, Capitals, Red Wings, Blues and Canucks had six

So probably not too much of pre-work to determine what to say for each team, especially as there was almost a month to prepare.

* In Senators case three of them would mean transfer to Coyotes

I thought he just read too far in the script and didn't read the prompter, but upon re-watch I agree. Looks like a production error.

Both Weekes and the NHL declined to comment. A source with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic that a production error fed the wrong words into the teleprompter that Weekes was using, and that it wasn’t just a passing comment by the former NHL goaltender and veteran broadcaster.

He went to the Steve Harvey School of Broadcasting.

Okay, not the same thing, but that's what came to mind immediately.

they should be filming the lottery draw. not just give everyone these cheap cardboard stacks. I wanna see the real lottery. no way in hell they were going to let CBJ win this. ANA and CBJ both deserved Bedard over CHI

So, what even is the theory here?

How to rig the NHL draft lottery:
1. Inform as many members of the media as possible of your secret intentions beforehand.
2. ????
3. Oh shit why did we tell the media we rigged it?!?
4. Profit
no not this but by doing the lottery behind closed doors it allows them to pick and choose whatever they like. Chicago may have won it but I question if the NHL had anything to do with it. no way in hell they were going to let CBJ win Bedard. it's just stupid how its done. I dont care if its boring. do the one we seen the other day for those who are bored by it and put the real lottery on Sportsnet 2 or 3 or something like that. either way we should be seeing it

I posted it in this very thread. Not doing it again, you can look back for it yourself or find it really easily on YouTube...

The draft is live so why can't they just do the lotto live.
The draft is completely different….easier to do because you produce basically a full show anyway and have the draft happening during your show….picks are so far in between you already have a lot of things planned to go through and you have all the speaking notes ready on all the players expected to go first round, etc. there is, however, good reason they don’t televise the whole draft….it would get dull after a while

It’s on NHL webpage. Boring but that’s to be expected. They post it every year. Gary and some lawyers etc.
It’s 16 -17 minutes long, if I recall.

Weekes is known get inside info from league office about trades and leak from his Twitter account prior to trade announcements
Not surprise he leak out the lottery results prior to commercial break before it was time to do so.
So Weekes of him

You know they post the video of the actual lottery happening, and the balls being picked, every year, right?

Ernst & Young would in no way risk their reputation on something like what you describe.

I know hockey's the most important thing here on these boards, but in the grand scheme of what they do, there's no upside to participating in a sham.
