It was way lower in the playoffs losing to that garbage Montreal team, that was rock bottom. I said I needed a break and I'm proud to say I haven't watched a game of this joke team, I knew it would be the same garbage team as last year. I'll eventually watch them again but it's better for my mental health to avoid them, they are a waste of time.

It’s kind of impressive when you think of everything they have done. You think no way this can happen and then they do it.

It's an accomplishment of failures. Our longest rival, a team that was meant to be a laughing stock last season accomplished more in a few weeks than the Leafs have in 54 years. Think about that. 54 years, not a chance to play for a cup since the league expanded past 6 teams. Habs walk in being laughed at, walk their way to a SCF, while the Leafs haven't seen the second round in 17 years, and a SCF in 54 years. It's actually kind of impressive how awful they've been and how they find new ways to be the embarrassment of the league. I say that as a die hard, life long Leaf fan. I had no choice. My old man is the same way, he was 5 years old the last time the Leafs held the cup. He now has sons, and grandsons that may never see what he saw. Amazing.

My son was born April 2020. He's already seen the Columbus series, the Habs series, and now this laughable start.
No doubt he probably heard me laughing from inside the womb during the David Ayres game.

I remember sitting on my front steps with my then 7-month old. We had a big maple tree at the front of our house. It was quiet, and then randomly, a maple leaf falls off the tree and hits her in the head. It was just a leaf so it was harmless, and she was super curious so she picks it up and starts manipulating it in her hands like young kids do.

I said out loud to her "Sweetie, don't get too close to maple leaves. Maple leaves only bring pain and suffering." She looks up at me, and literally at that exact moment, she starts taking an extremely loud shit.

True story.

It's the constant disappointment, the fact we have not improved in any way regardless of how good we look on paper, we're still the same team that can't get out of the first round.

I am actually blown away but you can actually see a crack in the Toronto Maple Leaf fan base right now, and I'm actually kind of proud, that we are no longer content following blindly and paying for a terrible product, they have treated us like a renewable resource for too long, and finally we are sick and tired, there are kinks in the armor.

I know I care less about this year than I did last year after that cowardly display in the playoffs, and personally I don't think our team on paper this year is as good as last years, I'm banking on the stars improving and having Tavares to help us get over that first round hump (not looking good so far).

So yes, I'm dejected, disappointed, angry, upset, I mean it's the same Leafs with different names on their jerseys, why can't we ever get a true leader? It's a joke at this point.

I'll continue to support my team but my hearts not in it like it used to be, I've never cared about being the laughingstock of the league but enough is enough, you got spanked 7-1 against an AHL team, that is David Aryes level pathetic.

If we don't get out of the first round this year I have zero issues blowing it all up, that is just too long, after this season we only have Matthews for two more years, let that sink in, pathetic.

That's how i felt before Saturdays loss.

This is how I feel now.

They've betrayed me too many times now, not even being able to bounce back, get your head on straight and win one game after that embarrassing effort in Pittsburgh?

I'm out, I'll stat watch for a bit but I'm not wasting anymore time watching this team.

They are not a stanley cup contending team and that was the whole point of all of this, it's clear as day this roster cannot win the cup, no heart and soul, no character and the fill ins for the losses because of our massive contracts are simply not good enough.

It's over, team needs a revamp, sad thing is we won't do it until after we probably won one round in the playoffs and then get destroyed in the 2nd round, god I hope that doesn't give management too much hope.

Anyways, I'm not as passionate as I was before, this franchise has been through hell and other than Spezza I don't feel a single person on that team gives a flying F about how I feel about the Maple Leaf.

Entitled little pricks, Kane and Toews earned their contracts after cups, these brats took us to the cleaners before achieving anything.

Pathetic.

After hearing some radio interviews and reading some reactions from some hockey media, I am convinced that they don't grasp the level of angst or the cause of it. Some might but some just think that the Leafs lost a few and fans are being fans and overacting and the team will put some wins together and all will be forgotten.

If that happens, it will be.

How bad is the morale ?

We know the rebuild failed bad.

Hope is a cute thing, but not a quality you want in a GM. You want a realist.

The realist says, the team is not great, at the cap, and underperforming.

Hyman made the right move.

We'll see. I am sure there are some but I know people (fans) that absolutely hate this team and collection of players and management right now. I don't think a few regular season wins is going to change that.

correct.

string 5 wins in a row and you'll have some of the fanbase start to turn.

others, yah right. don't care if we win the presidents trophy, playoffs and Stanley Cup is all that matters.

COVID or not the fact that MLSE needs to give out free tickets is very telling.

I think the causal fans don’t really care till they start winning. The diehard fans are generally less invested than ever. I live in Vancouver and this is the first year I sold my Leafs tickets bc I would rather make some money than watch them play.

Dubas should have traded them.

But Dubas is a chicken.

and his time is ticking ....

cowardly GM moves fail more often than not.

Some early poster mentioned cracks in the fan base. Until your building is half empty, like ours is, there are no cracks. In fact, the only time our building may be full this year is when Toronto one’s to town. Guess which team that is.

I haven't had any trouble selling mine yet.

Very eloquent postings here... nothing new to add.

I pop in scanning for the only entertainment value left: Dubas and Shanahan getting perp-walked out of their executive boxes by a couple of pimply 18 year old security goofs with covid masks on.

I have no trouble selling mine. Point is more like there are enough people like me who would rather sell then attend the games.
Not sure, your guess is as good as mine.
I always felt this was a strong secondary market here anyway.

I thought Mirtle(in his podcast) had a great analogy when he compared the Leaf fans feelings to Andy Dufresne in the movie Shawshank Redemption. When we were rebuilding, we sat through years of garbage hockey all for the hope to contend for the cup. We were like Andy Dufresne when he got in that awful tunnel to escape from prison. The difference is when Andy got out of the tunnel, he achieved his goal of freedom. When Leaf fans got out of the tunnel, we saw another tunnel.

I don't blame the fans for feeling the way they do about this franchise right now. It's a tough blow to realize that years have been squandered & there is a possibility it was all for nothing. We spent years building a team that instead of being a force in the NHL, is psychologically fragile, disorganized & leaves you wanting more. They lack the drive to do the basic things & prefer finesse over simplicity. They handle pressure poorly & play to the level of their competition. Management fell in love with their players...again.

Last thing I will say. If the team is pissing you off ....take a break. It's easy to get caught up in negative energy but it does nothing for you in the end.
