Last year already broke me, but I was pissed no changes were made to the core this summer.. now I legit feel it’s just not worth my energy or time. I love hockey so I’ll watch other games, but not watching anymore leaf games until something big happens - Dubas fired, leafs core trade, leafs win a rd lol, anyway only so long you can get behind a core of losers

I don't know how you all find the time to watch all these games, and I even more wonder how you are willing to put up with a group of players and management that very clearly do NOT "get it." I salute each and every one of you that still watch this shit. You are far better fans, and probably better people, than I. You are the guys/girls/pronouns that deserve a Cup infinitely more than any Maple Leafs employee. I truly wish that each and every one of you get to experience hockey happiness one day.
It helps that most of us are insane.

Thanks for the kind words.

Probably at an all time low right now, between blowing a 3-1 series lead and making it 5 first round exits and the poor start to the season makes it understandable. But this is also a fan base were they could go on and win 20 out of the next 25 games and we would be saying "we are the team to beat in the NHL"

Toronto might have had 5 first round exits in a row, but when it comes to the regular season they have gotten the right to a longer leash. The past 5 years in the regular season they can and have gotten the job done and made the playoffs.

I don’t think so! I think regular season means nothing when they win. It will come down to the playoffs. I think a majority of leaf fans are on the same boat.

Anecdotally, based on my friends/family, as well as what I keep reading from people on here and on reddit, I get the impression that a significant portion of the fanbase has either substantially reduced how much they're watching Leafs games, or even stopped altogether.

I'd be really curious to hear what their ratings have been like. My guess is pretty bad.
i dont know if im right about this but there were empty seats at the home opener? like after such a long time finally fans in the building but still not sold out crowd?
speaks volumes imho
2019 i traveled 11 hours to see the team live right now id never

and i started to watch the Oilers at least they are fun

Very Low, like losing 9-2 to Nashville on home ice with Peter Horachek as our coach kinda low and losing to a god damn Zamboni driver low.

Damn near gave up on them that night we lost to Nashville that bad and was told to go take a walk. Then the rumors came that Shanahan and Co. were coming to take over and thought, "Finally some management!!" and Horachek was fired the next day

Welp, F***!

When the All mighty, corporate TML start feeling the $ pinch, continuous lack of full arenas & the full extent of fan rage and apathy they'll do whatever to try and please fans & ice a winning team. However, when (not if) that time comes the majority of fans won't even care.....

Years past we didn't know what would happen. The excitement of the young roster and pushing teams like Washington and Boston to the brink but failing. It hurt, but the future was so exciting.

Now? We've seen this documentary before. It's on Amazon Prime. IF they make the playoffs this year, we know how it'll end. Can anyone honestly look at this roster and think "Yeah, they can win 16 playoff games for sure."

This excitement for me will be how this team gets out of the cap management mess they're in.

That's pretty dark, but it's sort of true. We keep going back to the salary cap, and it's so hard to think about anything else.

I have been a fan of the franchise for over 50 years and always be ....HOWEVER - I hate this group of selfish players and actually cheer for them to LOSE now -- I want this group gone starting with Shanahan - Dubas - Keefe - Marner - Mathews ..... I will then support the rebuild .

Until then "Lose Leafs Lose"!

The next six games are big for the team. After tonight there are three very winnable games before they play TB and Boston.
Anything less than 7 points probably puts someone ( Keefe) on a very hot seat.

It's starting to feel a bit like the end of the Kessel/Phaneuf/Lupul era. The difference is that this group has more potential, which makes it all the more disappointing.

Weird but those three names you mentioned are hauntingly similar to 3 of our key players now:

Matthews and Lupul: both common dandies.
Tavares and Phaneuf: both solid players failing to live up to hopes/expectations.
Marner and Kessel: both super talented but come off as aloof and entitled.

Haunting.

I hope they lose them all so they will make big changes.

I'd be stoked if they took the year off, tanked and got a high pick.

Maybe take the next two years off

If they are just not outscoring other teams to win .
What I mean is 5-4, 6-5 , if they are winning playing tight defensively and not turning the puck over and winning 5-2, 4-2. Then I will believe in them again .
Because if that doesn't happen then we will get bounced again in the playoffs.

For me, my morale towards the franchise is no where near what it was in the 80s. We had no chance at all to win anything and any time we did make the playoffs it was because of how weak our division was (Norris). With this team, there is potential, back then there was none, with this team we have superstar players, back then there was one (Clark).

For me this is more disappointing, because we went through a full rebuild for the first time in my life as a Leafs fan, and results were expected. Maybe we still have a ways to go... Back in the 80s, it wasnt a rebuild it was just a rag tag team of nothing with an angry lame duck owner filling his pockets. I guess the last part hasn't changed lol.

Trouble is the rebuild wasn’t over and Dubas paid 4 guys like it was.

You don’t just draft 3 years in a row and hey it’s Crosby,Malkin, done.

It’s still a GMs job to evaluate does this really work? Can this collection play the NHL playoff style necessary? Can they forecheck, win battles, push hard a do I have the money for a proper support system?

Not just here’s the cash, I promise not to trade anyone and we will do the same thing year after year and expect different results.

All true. But I think we were, unfortunately, the lead team in the new world. Look at the Sens, way over paid for Brady imo... but what are you going to do? Problem with us was we had 3 come up all at the same time and I do agree we overpaid severly in one of those cases. The more I look back, the timing of the GM switch was not ideal; Shanny was trying to be progressive I guess... and if Dubas walked, so be it. That issue was specific to the contract negotiations, the rest of the GMing was fine generally speaking.

Still, 80's were infintely worse than right now, for me at least. We do have some hope today... bleak as it is after the past 2 seasons.

This. I truly believe the hope is dead. No matter what they do in the regular season, there's just no faith in this team to actually accomplish anything. They just seem like a bunch of losers and Dubas did nothing to fix it.

I personally can't wait for the day that Marner is shipped out of town. Can't stand him
