Signing Tavares was the beginning of the end, and the Marner contract was it! Done.

$10.9M for a 165 lbs winger who is softer than butter.

This.

The biggest loser move was acquiring a finishing piece (Tavares) when we didn't know what we had.

Ultimately Dubas' inability to manage the cap is the fatal flaw.

Dubas has to go, and so does Shanny.

Shanny was responsible for turning Toronto into a place players wanted to play.

The need for Overpay contracts to M T N M shows he didn't accomplish his goal. He must go.

Most rebuilds don't work. This is a good example.

one of the greatest losses in hockey history. there is no way to forgive or forget. a complete purge should be considered.

they brought great shame to the entire city, and we had to watch the cn tower lit up in habs colors. complete humiliation.
This post is gold! You really made my day, dude! But a purge should really be considered! At this point Matthews is the only player that I would actually keep. Really won't be sad to see the rest go.

I remember watching Matthews four goals...
I remember seeing the upside of willy and Marner...
I remember watching the Tavares announcement.

My excitement this season is probably lower than the Burke years....

How are you feeling?

When TOR wins morale is high.
When TOR loses morale is low.
It's called fandom for a reason.

It should be that low. No one is going to worry about how the Leafs are playing untill the playoffs. The regular season doesn't matter to kany in the board.

Being a diehard Leafs fan is tough.

It's not like we're a poor small market team with no money and a place virtually all UFAs avoid either.

We as fans need to pay hundreds of dollars for a ticket in the nosebleed sections on a weeknight, but because of that, the Leafs can spend to the cap every year (and often above it due to LTIR shenanigans), front load contracts with heavy signing bonuses as an enticement to players, can spend more on coaching, management, scouting, analytics, training facilities, etc. Also, while many players certainly avoid Toronto, it's still one of the bigger UFA destinations out there.

Yet, despite all those advantages, and JFJ, Burke, Nonis, Lou, and Dubas getting kicks at the can as GM, and multiple high profile coaches like Wilson, Carlyle, and Babcock coming here, we still haven't won a playoff series in the cap era. Florida's the only other team in the league that can say that, but at least they have the excuse of being a low attendance small market team.

Yep. Being a Leafs fan is hard.

Probably at an all time low right now, between blowing a 3-1 series lead and making it 5 first round exits and the poor start to the season makes it understandable. But this is also a fan base were they could go on and win 20 out of the next 25 games and we would be saying "we are the team to beat in the NHL"

Toronto might have had 5 first round exits in a row, but when it comes to the regular season they have gotten the right to a longer leash. The past 5 years in the regular season they can and have gotten the job done and made the playoffs.

I stopped caring. I'd get my hopes up cuz they looked good in preseason or early games. But as of last year, watching them literally unable to score a PP goal and again failing when the going got touch, then losing several key players, I knew this core's chance of winning a Cup was non-existent. Maybe in a few years after we tank another season or two, and get rid of some * MARNER * dead weight * MARNER *

I can't afford to go to their overpriced games. I can't afford their ludicrously expensive gear. I'm ashamed to even wear it half the time. I don't even bother watching again, like the Kessel era since there isn't one person on the ice who is going to try. It's just background noise. I've completely checked out. I doubt I ever buy another Leafs hat, jersey, t-shirt, or anything until they can give me an actual reason to do so.

Well it's not 80's bad yet. I stopped watching hockey for about 7 years. Was strange starting again around 92 I think it was. Did miss alot of the Gretzky years, which now I sometimes regret.

The dark years of the 2000s was easier to handle. Although they never got it done, the late 90s and early 00s teams usually made the playoffs and won a round.

The fact that the team is likely wasting the best talent they've had in decades (Matthews,) and even if he doesn't leave, they're wasting prime years, is what has so many people finally fed up IMO.

The Leafs finally did a rebuild. Finally got some luck. Finally grew some homegrown (drafted) talent. And of course they had try and reinvent the wheel. I think Shanahan started off well, but he blew it by letting an inexperienced GM take over during crucial negotiations.

Now you're left with a load of talent, but players who don't care, and a coach/GM who don't know what to do about it.

Im looking forward to Dubas once again waiting too long to do anything and letting any value Marner might have sewer, and Rielly walk for nothing.

I need to get a new toque b/c I just don't feel good wearing a Leafs one anymore. It's become something embarrassing that you keep to yourself.

All my caps have been Leafs hats for years, after the playoffs last year I just couldn't bring myself to wear them anymore. Been looking for a new hat ever since. I absolutely refuse to buy any Leafs merchandise, period. Not when they're putting this lackluster effort forward.

Haven't watched a full game yet. Only come here to read up on the goings on. I don't get this "on paper" stuff. At best, the team is only as good as it's ever been which has proven to be not good enough when it matters, but the reality is it's probably worse today. D has gotten slightly better, forward group has gotten worse over time by a wide margin. I find with Toronto sports, it's best to take a break from viewing when it becomes clear that management doesn't know what they're doing. Dubas' biggest flaw is underestimating the value of role players who do the dirty work that the stars are incapable of. Sometimes what that means is getting rid of a star player in order to keep depth intact (see Bruins). He's too concerned with "losing" a trade because he wouldn't get a player of equal caliber in return. He also clearly does not understand this market's fanbase 1 iota. I'm tired of having dirt kicked in my face repeatedly by this organization and I refuse to let them be a big part of my life while they do so.

The fact that some of you still give this team the time of day, game after game is remarkable. Call me less of a fan or any other bs you want to make yourselves feel better. When someone continually treats me like crap, I cut them off. End of story

Morale, RIGHT NOW!? My morale has been exceptionally low since the loss to CBJ. Kyle Dubass is an absolutely pathetic piece of shit garbage GM and human being. The fact that this f***ing moron said “I’d bet my career on the core” just goes to show you how out of touch with reality and stubborn he really is. He was nowhere near qualified for the GM job and it is actually brilliant how far we’ve fallen. This piece of garbage will forever be known as the pathetic fraud who botched the most promising rebuild in Leafs history. f***ing piece of shit, the fact that any of you ever supported this absolute loser is so pathetic and speaks volumes of the fan base we have. Advanced stats hahahaha my ass. Fire this f***ing loser, ShanaSCAM and Keefe and trade that entitled loser dweeb Marner. Imagine pushing out Sweet Lou, the greatest GM and hockey team architect the game has ever seen, for a f***in nerd who looks like he spends his time at Weenie Hut Junior’s with those glasses. I tried to tell you all this years ago and I was called out, but I was right. The fan base is part of the problem, especially the Dubasites who try to reason and argue that everything that f***ing loser fraud GM does is good. I could write a whole grocery list of mistakes and missed opportunities this piece of garbage has made that have destroyed this team. Such a pathetic culture and then he lets Auston walk into game days with a f***ing Chanel purse!? My God, not even Christ himself could help this team as long as that disgusting piece of shit GM is still employed. I will legitimately throw a party the day ShanaSCAM and Dubass are dismissed. I know this has been a long rant but this is truly how I feel and I have EVERY RIGHT to feel this way as a fan who literally has dedicated a huge part of my life to this team. They have sucked out the passion and love I have for my favourite team, the only team I have ever been a fan of. I have f***ing had enough. FIRE DUBASS. FIRE SHANAHAN.
