I’m still not super comfortable but I do feel better after the preseason.
Murray looked good and Samsonov was average. But all we played was lineups half full of NHLers from teams that didn’t make the playoffs.

They gave us no reason to worry but we still need to see them against NHL comp. We also need to see if Murray can stay healthy.

Preseason schmeseason.

We know nothing until we have our best roster on the ice, facing the best the competition has to offer.

It's still a massive gamble, although calculated, there are no facts involved here, just a hope on a wing and a prayer.

They perform = Dubas genius

They don't = Dubas gone.

Simple as that.

Preseason is certainly useful for players like Murray and Samsonov that are looking to acclimatize with a new team. I don't really feel like too much has changed for me regarding the new goalie combo at this time though. Essentially, Murray will have to play quite a bit more than he did last season and/or Samsonov will have to play better than he did last season in order for this to go somewhere meaningful enough.

They seemed ok in the preseason.

My biggest worry is more about staying healthy (for Murray).

I heard enough analysts mention how well the the Leafs did with terrible goaltending last season that I figure if this tandem can play average and consistent, the team should finish at least as well, if not better than last year.

No different. Murray has to stay healthy and Samsonov has to be better as a Leaf than he was able to be as a Cap. Murray will require many more games to prove that no matter what he does in a small sample. However Chris Tanev managing to to give Calgary 2 injury free seasons tells us anything can happen so fingers crossed.

Samsonov is a Hail Mary with draft status and a 26 game sample from 19-20 in his pocket. I have few expectations from him except that he won't be as bad as Mrazek was for the club, and I am not sure the Capitals were the best club he could have landed with.

A huge thing to follow because any chance of "A" game Murray is a game changer.

Feel around the same, I think Murray will do well when healthy. But the problem is will he be healthy

I'm sure the new tandem will provide serviceable net minding. I'm optimistic Samsanov could be a long term solution.

If we're healthy in the post season we should be fine and we might get a pleasant surprise.

Can't be worse than last year.

They haven't had to make too many grade A saves since it is the preseason, but the Leafs haven't been killed by a lack of grade A saves. They were killed by lack of goaltending fundamentals... And these guys look like they have had that.

Samsonov had a few miscues with his puck handling but other than that, none of the goals given up have been weak. It has taken good shots and defensive breakdowns to really beat him. Maybe a few times when he could have been beat on a lateral pass tap-in had they been completed but he is athletic enough to make those saves on occasion and those are Grade A saves as far as I am concerned.

Murray was pretty much perfect.

We never heard or saw anything about the goalies offseason workouts, so the fact they showed up to camp ready to go is a positive. Also, they did what they need to do in pre-season and ,as far as we know, are both game ready to start the season.
