Post-Game Talk: Hot Garbage, Leafs Lose 3-2 In OT

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Powerplay - Awful
Simmonds - Worst I've seen him
OT - Jeebus Marner wtf was that?

Even with all this bad we still almost won, that's how good we are now. What I don't understand was the constant throwing of Thornton out with Matthews and Marner, I think it's messing with Galch, he didnt look as good today.

It's 3 on 3 so you take it with a grain of salt, but when you put together what kind of week Rielly had, he was on his own program there. But so was Marner and so was Matthews.

Im not absolving poor play by 34 and 16 on that that goal. I can forgive 1 or 2 mistakes. Not like multiple same things over and and over.

Dead serious, please show me the last 2-1 that didn’t go in on 44. He has been TERRIBLE. It’s not hyperbole either.

Are teams not allowed to have off nights? Even with that, Leafs were in the game until the end. People are acting like we were blown out

No, I am not acting like we we're blown out. the team didn't gel all night like they have always done... fumbling the puck, stupid turnover passes... flames we're clogging the neutral zone all night, you think Keefe would have resorted to dump and chase, but no no... Keefe is to blame the last two games... but the team as a whole is also to blame. I am ok with an off night, but two in a row? come on. Unacceptable with the amount of talent we have on this team.

I agree with Matthews and Marner, but disagree with Rielly. The forwards screw him there - both gambling so unnecessarily in the neutral zone. Then instead of Matthews skating back hard and covering Gaudreau the moment his gamble fails, he skates back lazily and takes nobody. Rielly is left trying to play damage control on a 2-on-1 that did not at all have to happen, should so easily have been a 2-on-2 at worst.
He doesn't take back ice in the neutral zone to get a decent gap. Because of that's he's flat footed and out of position. He's out of position for a 2on2 and a 2on1. He can't pressure the puck carrier, can't contain him or take away a dangerous lane - and that's just with the puck carrier. It doesn't even include the wide open lane he leaves for Gaudreau and the fact he can't even back pressure when he's beat because he's flat footed once it turns into a 2on1.

It's not all on him, but he doesn't do anything right on that play.

Oh yeah, I'm completely frustrated with Rielly.

Positive: JT has looked like JT for around 3 weeks now. 8 points in his has 6 games. If he goes back to being a PPG center down this stretch, it’s good news for us.
Would be huge for them, Leafs can't afford to have Tavares get outplayed by Hyman; he needs to be their #3 guy.

Fun fact, did you know that in the first year in North America, Big Save Dave didn't speak a lick of English.

Well, that result sucks but the Team did look tired compared to Calgary. However, as @MattySnipes mentioned to me, the Power Play will be important in the Playoffs even if it is much lesser called upon.

As an outsider I still see so much to like about your club, even on an off night like this, FWIW.

Thank you all for being so welcoming again.

Marner continuously makes these brain dead decisions in OT, he hasn't matured in the least in these situations. Plays overtime like he's still in junior.

He is a high risk, high reward player. This is usually bad news in the playoffs where disciplined teams who sacrifice take home the gold.

I hope he gets back to the game he was playing earlier in the year. He had shown maturity in his game, not of late.
