Are you seeing what kind of season Horvat is having? He is playing like an elite 1C. That package will not be enough.
Well i guess we have 14 more C 's this season in the league playing like an elite #1 C.

not under current rules where the comp pick was tied to a UFA resigning. You can’t do that anymore. His price st deadline is just for a rental.
What about conditional on where the team ends up, be it WCF or SCF, that happens all the time.

If the poster you responded too was insinuating that it we be conditional on if he re-signs than I'm in agreeance with you, that never happens.

Sabres need a 2C behind Tage. Especially one that is great on faceoffs like Horvat. Honest don't know what is would take to get him but Sabres don't need the Canucks to retain anything.

Horvat
Myers

For

Mittelstadt / Oloffson
Ryan Johnson / Portillo rightsk fans, I think
Fitzgerald
2023 - 1st (Top 10 protected)
2024 - 2nd (Bo resigns)

So, unlike many Canuck fans I think Myers has value, and is miscast. He is asked to play like a #1 pairing RHD and he is not, but he is a #2 pairing Dman, and it is noticeable on our team, when he is not there.

I suggest we keep him until next TDL and then trade him at 50%, which mean his cost to the other team is $2,000,000 and affordable. The worst that can happen is he walks.

Keep Fitzgerald and add the 2024-2nd and we will let you negotiate before he is traded. Drop it to a top 5 protected.

Mittelstadt
Ryan Johnson
2023 - 1st (Top 5 protected)
2024 - 2nd

Just out of curiosity, is that just for Horvat or Horvat and Myers both?

The Sabres are not in aPosition where they should be spending the assets required to make this move.

We're in a position... just that Horvat is not what is needed on this team.

As of this post Buffalo has lost 6 in a row and is in row and is in 7th in the Atlantic.

Trading high picks isn't something Buffalo should be doing right now

I would put my money on horvat adding buffalo to his No-trade list next contract then him ever signing there.

Waste of assets for buffalo given where they are headed.

You can see that? Clean your glasses. Why does Buffalo want a guy on one year deal? For a 10-15 pick, an extra first and a decent prospect? LOL. The things that get said in here.

I should have clarified that I could see this only if Sabres are competing for a playoff spot.

It's ridiculous people are downplaying Horvat here.

you can do conditions on team performance in the playoffs and the player is not injured

go back over history….nobody has gotten two 1sts outright in a deal or a rental.
in Some trades they have had riders on a second pick becoming a 1st based on playoff performance %( making cup finals) or resigning thr player.

i don’t recall any deal in recent memory where a rental got two 1sts outright.

teams do not trade top 15 drafted players who has not yet played fir the nhl team for rentals.

Vancouver would have gotten a better return for Horvat at the draft where the new team coukd talk about a contract e tension. Contract extensions are not done mid season after a trade.

the same will occur with Toronto and Matthews this off-season. his return drops considerably if he says I’m texting free agency ( like stamkos). They can get a very good return if they allow Matthews to talk extension with new club. At this point next year with Matthews being a UFA, Toronto isn’t getting two 1sts.

a more likely return a team gives for Horvat ( not buffalo) would be 2 2nds + prospect/ player The 2nd in 23 becomes a 1st if team makes the playoffs.

Honstly, Sabres need to move some assets. They have arguably the best and deepest prospect pool. They have been having a hard time squeezing Jack Quinn into lineup this season.

  1. Owen Power, D
  2. Jack Quinn, F
  3. J.J. Peterka, F
  4. Matthew Savoie, F
  5. Devon Levi, G
  6. Jiri Kulich, F
  7. Noah Ostlund, F
  8. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, G .
  9. Isak Rosen, F
  10. Ryan Johnson, D
  11. Erik Portillo, G
  12. Alexander Kisakov, F
  13. Prokhor Poltapov, F
  14. Viktor Neuchev, F
  15. Tyson Kozak, F
  16. Nikita Novikov, D
  17. Lukas Rousek, F
  18. Mats Lindgren, D
  19. Josh Bloom, F
  20. Olivier Nadeau, F
  21. Topias Leinonen, G
  22. Filip Cederqvist, F :
  23. Linus Weissbach,
  24. Aaron Huglen, F

Fair enough but if they are going to do that wouldn't it be better to target players with term?

Ideally players with term but how often do 1/2C come available? Horvat specifically is a faceoff wizard on top of his goal products which the Sabres desperately need. Bo is from London so only a 3 hour drive to Buffalo might be attractive for him to resign.

I get that I just wouldn't be spending the kind of assets it would take to get bo now because he can leave in about 7 months assuming free agency is back to July 1.

I would ride out this season because it looks like the Sabres will be contending for Bedard.

Then back the money truck up to Bo in the off season especially if you got Bedard.

Targeting Horvat now is the wrong time you do it in the off season

It's a no brainer Horvat would make the Sabres a better team. But at what cost? Even if the teams could come to a deal with a trade, Horvats going to want the whole farm when it comes to a new contract. He'll take Buffalo to the cleaners because he holds all the cards. If he'd take Thompsons contract, that would be the most I'd give. But He'll want Skinners contract or maybe more. And I don't want to see Buffalo paying a 50-60 point 2c 9-9.5 million for the next seven years.

That would be absolute highway robbery by Vancouver
Eh, that seems more of an offer that's par for the course.

Details are a little different, like having the protection scaled back or including a better fitting prospect, but this would land firmly in the "meh" category for most Canucks fans.
